Bristow sits along historic Route 66 in Creek County, roughly 40 miles southwest of Tulsa. Camping in the area centers on several lakes within easy driving distance, with Keystone Lake serving as the primary destination. The surrounding landscape is Cross Timbers country: a mix of oak woodland, prairie, and low rolling hills.
Keystone Lake is the largest draw. This 26,000 acre lake is truly an urban playground. There are 16 recreation areas (3 with alcohol free beaches); 11 boat ramps, miles of sandy beaches, 3 marinas, 2 off-road vehicle areas, 5 short distance trails, a waterfowl refuge, 3 seasonal green tree reservoirs, and thousands of acres of land open to public hunting. RV travelers using Bristow as a base can reach the lake in under 30 minutes.
Options range from Corps of Engineers and state park campgrounds to private RV resorts. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Keystone Lake, Lake Shore Motel and RV Park, Gold Rush RV, New Mannford Ramp, and Oaklake Trails Naturist Resort all fall within easy driving distance and cover a wide range of styles, from full-hookup family resorts to simpler lakeside stops.
Things to do around Bristow
Water recreation dominates. Keystone Lake is noted for its striped bass, sand bass, black bass, lake strain small mouth bass, crappie, and catfish. Boaters have access to multiple ramps and marinas, plus swimming beaches, kayaking, and paddleboarding. Families staying at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Keystone Lake have direct access to a floating obstacle course, water toys, and on-site pools.
On land, hiking trails at Keystone Ancient Forest showcase old-growth post oak and cedar. ATV/ORV areas are located close by below the dam. Route 66 attractions run through downtown Bristow and neighboring Sapulpa and Chandler, with vintage service stations, murals, and diners. Wildlife watching and birding are strong along the quieter arms of the lake near New Mannford Ramp.

Bristow has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and cold winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel. The area is fairly wet overall, with a strong seasonal pattern that makes spring the wettest time of year. March through May brings wildflowers and rising lake levels, though thunderstorms and occasional tornado watches are part of the season.
Summer is peak camping season at the lakes. Temperatures regularly exceed 90°F from June through August, making waterfront sites particularly desirable. Weekend sites at Corps of Engineers parks and at Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Keystone Lake fill early, especially around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. How to book a campground near Bristow
Keystone Lake is managed by Us Army Corps of Engineers. Corps campgrounds around the lake are reserved through Recreation.gov, which opens on a rolling basis, exactly 6 months in advance at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. Popular summer weekends should be booked the day the window opens.
Keystone State Park sites are reserved through the Oklahoma State Parks reservation system, with campsite reservations opening eleven months in advance. The park hosts three campgrounds with tent and full-hookup RV campsites, as well as comfort stations with showers.
Private parks handle bookings directly. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Keystone Lake takes reservations on its own site, while Lake Shore Motel and RV Park, Gold Rush RV, and Oaklake Trails Naturist Resort book by phone or through their websites. New Mannford Ramp is a city-managed access point; confirm current camping rules directly with the City of Mannford before arriving.
What to expect
Expect a mix of paved and gravel pads. Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park™ Camp-Resort: Keystone Lake offers 30 and 50 amp electric back-in and pull-through RV sites, along with restrooms and dump service. Camping facilities range from primitive to full hook up at Corps of Engineers sites around Keystone Lake, with many lakefront but limited in shade.
Cell service is generally solid near the lake and along I-44 and US-75, and weaker in the wooded coves. Storms move fast in spring and summer; several parks in the area maintain storm shelters, and RVers should track weather radios during watches.
Shaded campsites are available but limited at some locations, so early arrival helps secure the best spots. Mosquitoes and chiggers are active from late spring through early fall; bring repellent and long pants for evening walks.
