Campgrounds and RV parks near Burns Flat, OK

Foss Lake is the main draw. The reservoir supports bass, crappie, catfish, and saugeye fishing, with lighted boat ramps, a seasonal marina, and boat rentals. A designated swim beach, playgrounds, and picnic pavilions make the state park practical for families with kids. On land, Foss State Park offers hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding on the multi-use Warrior Trail, a disc golf course, and a resident bison herd near the park entrance. Birders can spot species typical of the mixed-grass prairie, including scissor-tailed flycatchers and meadowlarks. Off the water, Route 66 attractions include the Oklahoma Route 66 Museum in Clinton and the National Route 66 Museum in Elk City. Washita Battlefield National Historic Site and the Stafford Air and Space Museum are within an hour's drive.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in western Oklahoma. Daytime highs sit in the 60s to 80s Fahrenheit, wildflowers bloom on the prairie, and lake sites are easier to book. Spring brings the region's wettest weather, with May the peak rainfall month and a real risk of severe thunderstorms and tornadoes on the Southern Plains. Summer is hot. July and August routinely push into the mid-90s, and heat index values well above 100 are common. Foss Lake, the swim beach, and shaded pull-thru sites become the priority, and weekends around Independence Day and the annual Foss Lake veterans salute fill early. Sunset Beach palapas and shaded state-park sites should be reserved well in advance. Fall cools quickly through October and November, and lake traffic thins out. Winters are cold, windy, and quieter. Foss State Park stays open year round, but the Northside campgrounds, Buffalo Bend and Cutberth, generally operate May through October.

Foss State Park has 110 RV campsites, ten of which offer full hookups, plus tent sites, an equestrian camp, and lighted boat ramps. All sites offer 30-amp or 50-amp service with water, and shaded pull-thrus suitable for big rigs are limited, so reserve early. Comfort stations with showers, playgrounds, and a seasonal marina round out the amenities. Expect open prairie exposure and wind. Shade is limited at lakefront sites, cell service can be spotty in more remote loops, and swim-beach areas draw heavy local day-use traffic on summer weekends. Private parks along I-40 are geared to overnighters: level pull-thrus, full hookups, laundry, and easy highway access. The KOA sits just off I-40 and typically includes a seasonal pool, playground, and fenced pet area.
