Campgrounds near Cushing, Oklahoma
Cushing sits in north-central Oklahoma between Stillwater and Tulsa, roughly an hour from both. The area has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen Cfa) with no dry season, hot summers, and mild winters. RV travelers use Cushing as a base for lake camping, Route 66 side trips, and Oklahoma State University weekends in nearby Stillwater.
Options close to town skew toward small, privately owned RV parks with full hookups rather than large public campgrounds. Saints Grove Campground, Whitetail Woods RV Park, Gold Rush RV, and Morning View RV Park serve travelers looking for level pads, 30/50-amp service, and quick highway access. Oaklake Trails Naturist Resort, between Depew and Stroud, is a clothing-optional AANR-affiliated resort with RV sites, cabins, and tent camping; first-time visitors must complete a background check before arrival.
For larger public-land camping, Keystone Lake sits about an hour east and offers four Corps of Engineers campgrounds along with Keystone State Park on the south shore.
Things to do around Cushing
Water recreation drives most trips out of Cushing. At Keystone Lake to the east, visitors bring or rent boats for water sports and fishing, and ATV/ORV areas sit just below the dam. Boat ramps inside Keystone State Park make lake access easy, and bass and catfish are the common targets. Swim beaches are open in summer, roughly Memorial Day through Labor Day.
On land, families use paved and dirt trails, visit playgrounds, and watch for wildlife in the wooded hills around the lake. Stillwater is the closest urban stop for groceries, restaurants, and Oklahoma State University athletics. Route 66 landmarks in Stroud, Chandler, and Sapulpa are within easy day-trip range. Cushing itself is a major crude-oil pipeline hub, so expect a working-town feel in the immediate city limits.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of Oklahoma. March through May brings warming temperatures and green landscapes, but it is also the wettest stretch of the year. May is the wettest month, averaging roughly 129 mm of precipitation over about 11 rainy days, while January is the driest at about 24 mm. Severe thunderstorms and tornado watches are common from April into June, so renters should monitor NWS Norman alerts and choose sites with sturdy hookups and clear routes to shelter.
Summer is hot and humid. Average daytime highs reach about 34°C in July, the warmest month, with nighttime lows near 22°C. Shaded sites, working air conditioning, and early-morning outdoor activity help.
Fall cools quickly through October and November, and winters are short and generally mild with occasional cold snaps and ice storms. Many private RV parks in the region stay open year-round, while some state-park amenities scale back off-season.
How to book campgrounds near Cushing
Private RV parks around Cushing, including Saints Grove Campground, Whitetail Woods RV Park, Gold Rush RV, and Morning View RV Park, generally take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites. Availability is usually easiest to secure midweek and outside Oklahoma State University home football weekends, which pull heavy demand into Stillwater and the surrounding area.
For state-park camping at Keystone State Park on Keystone Lake, reservations run through the Oklahoma State Parks system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least two days ahead of arrival and can be made up to eleven months in advance, and all RV and tent sites are reservable online. Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Keystone Lake book through Recreation.gov. Oaklake Trails Naturist Resort requires a pre-arrival background check for first-time visitors; contact the property directly before planning a stay.
What to expect at Cushing-area campgrounds
Most in-town options are small, level, gravel or concrete-pad RV parks aimed at long-haul workers, weekenders, and travelers passing through on US-377 or SH-33. Expect full hookups with 30- and 50-amp service, on-site laundry at many locations, and quick access to fuel and groceries in Cushing or Stillwater. Shade varies by park, and site spacing is typical of working-town parks rather than resort-style pads.
At Keystone State Park to the east, sites feel more scenic and wooded. The park has three campgrounds, Red Carpet, Green Country, and Lake Country, with full-hookup RV sites offering 30- or 50-amp electric, comfort stations with showers, and dump station access. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Cushing and Stillwater and weaker in wooded lake coves.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Cushing, OK
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Cushing, OK?
RV rental in Cushing is one of the most affordable ways to explore Oklahoma. Travel trailers typically start around $90 to $130 per night, Class C motorhomes average $150 to $220 per night, and larger Class A motorhomes range from $200 to $300 per night. Because Cushing sits in a quieter corner of Payne County away from major tourist hubs, nightly rates tend to be lower than what you would see in Oklahoma City or Tulsa. To find a cheap RV rental in Cushing, book midweek, travel during shoulder months like March, April, or October, and use the price filter on RVezy to sort listings from low to high. Many Cushing-area hosts also offer weekly discounts if you stay five or more nights.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cushing,OklahomaDo I need a special driver's license to rent an RV in Cushing, OK?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Cushing. Oklahoma classifies recreational vehicles used for personal travel as standard non-commercial vehicles, so your everyday license covers everything from a compact campervan to a 35 foot Class A motorhome, with no Commercial Driver's License required. RVezy guests must generally be at least 25 years old, and your identity is confirmed quickly through the platform before pickup. Visiting from outside the United States? Pick up an International Driving Permit from your home country's auto association before you fly. That's it, you're ready to hit Route 66 from Cushing.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsIs my Cushing RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Cushing booked through RVezy automatically includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-44 or US-377 with confidence. The protection plan covers most damages to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level during checkout, not the host. While this is not traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial peace of mind whether you are parked at Keystone State Park or driving the back roads near the Cimarron River. Review the coverage tiers carefully at booking and select the level that matches your comfort, especially if this is your first time renting an RV.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Cushing RV rental?
Booking an RV rental in Cushing is low-risk because RVezy, not the individual host, sets the cancellation policy for every reservation. There is a money-back grace period right after booking, and additional refund options apply depending on how far out you are from your trip start date. This means you can lock in your dates now and still have flexibility if plans change. Oklahoma's peak tornado season runs April through June, so keep an eye on the forecast as your trip approaches. Book early to secure the best Cushing-area RVs and pricing, then review the cancellation details in the RVezy Help Center if anything shifts.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a Cushing RV trip?
Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Cushing is easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter and you'll see listings that welcome dogs (and sometimes cats). Many Oklahoma hosts are pet owners themselves and share tips for traveling with animals. Once you arrive, Keystone State Park allows leashed pets in the campground and on trails, and Lake McMurtry near Stillwater has miles of dog-friendly hiking. Pack a tie-out stake, collapsible water bowl, and your pet's vaccination records, and message the host before booking if you have multiple pets or a large breed so everyone is on the same page.
travelok.com/state-parks/keystone-state-parkCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Cushing?
Yes, RV delivery in Cushing is offered by many RVezy hosts, which is the easiest way to start your trip if you are new to RVing or just don't want to drive a big rig. Your host can deliver and set up the motorhome or travel trailer directly at Keystone State Park, Lake McMurtry, or even a private driveway in town. They'll level the RV, connect hookups, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see hosts who offer this service, and ask about their delivery radius from Cushing. Delivery makes a family RV trip in Cushing feel like a turnkey vacation.

Most RVezy hosts include a daily mileage allowance, and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for long Oklahoma loops. Check the listing's mileage policy before booking, and message the host if you plan a big multi-state trip.
travelok.com/cities-and-towns/stroudWhere are the best campgrounds near Cushing, OK?

Reserve Oklahoma State Park sites up to six months in advance through the official reservation system.
travelok.com/state-parks/keystone-state-parkWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Cushing?
Cushing's humid subtropical climate makes spring and fall the sweet spots for RV camping. April, May, September, and October bring comfortable highs in the 70s and low 80s F, lower humidity, and the most pleasant lake conditions. Summer from June through August is hot and humid with highs near 95 F, perfect if you want to swim at Keystone Lake but plan to run the RV's air conditioner. Winter trips are possible too: January highs hover around 50 F with very little snow, so a cold-weather rig will keep you comfortable. Book April or October for the best weather and biggest savings on a Cushing RV trip.
weather.gov/oun/I've never rented an RV before. Will I be okay driving one around Cushing?
You'll do great, Cushing is one of the easier places to learn the ropes. Roads like US-377, SH-18, and SH-33 are flat, wide, and rarely congested compared to big-city driving. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, covering the propane system, slide-outs, water hookups, dump procedure, and driving tips specific to that rig. If you're nervous about handling a larger Class C or travel trailer, start with a smaller campervan rental in Cushing or have the host deliver the RV directly to your campsite. Take a slow practice loop around a quiet area near the Cushing Industrial Airpark before heading out on the highway, you'll feel like a pro within 15 minutes.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/categories/360002007414-RentersWhat happens if I have a breakdown or problem on the road?
You're covered: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RV rental in Cushing booked through RVezy as part of the standard protection plan. If you get a flat tire on I-44, lock yourself out at Keystone Lake, or have a mechanical issue on a back road near the Cimarron River, one phone call gets help dispatched. Your host is also typically just a text away for quick questions about how the RV works. The RVezy support team is available before, during, and after your trip through the Help Center. Save the roadside assistance number in your phone before leaving the host's driveway so you have it ready if you ever lose signal in rural Payne County.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Cushing RV rental out of Oklahoma or across the border?
Yes, most RVezy hosts in Cushing welcome out-of-state RV road trips. Popular routes from Cushing cross into Texas (Dallas is about 270 miles south via I-35), Arkansas (Hot Springs is about 320 miles east), Kansas, and Missouri. Travel into Canada may be allowed with advance approval from the host and confirmation of insurance coverage, so message the host directly from the listing page before booking to confirm. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend there. If you're planning a multi-state loop, mention it in your first message to the host so mileage, fuel, and dump-station logistics can be sorted up front.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of gas mileage should I budget for from Cushing?
Plan your fuel budget around realistic numbers: Class B campervans average 18 to 22 mpg, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 mpg, and large Class A motorhomes deliver 6 to 10 mpg. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle and typically reduce its mpg by 25 to 40 percent. Oklahoma consistently has some of the lowest gas prices in the country, often below the national average, which makes a Cushing RV trip more affordable than the same drive from many other states. Fill up in Cushing or Stillwater (where prices are typically cheaper than at I-44 travel plazas) before heading to Keystone Lake. Download GasBuddy and aim to refuel when your tank hits the half-full mark in rural areas.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Cushing?
For the best campgrounds near Cushing, reserve as soon as your dates are locked in. Keystone State Park accepts reservations up to six months in advance through the official Oklahoma State Parks reservation system, and summer weekends around Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day book up months out. Lake McMurtry and Walnut Creek State Park follow similar timelines. For shoulder-season trips in April, May, September, or October, four to six weeks ahead is usually plenty. Private RV parks in Cushing like Grandstaff RV Park and Country Horizon often have more last-minute availability. If your first-choice campsite is full, check the reservation system regularly since cancellations free up sites quickly.
travelok.com/state-parks/keystone-state-parkWhat are driving conditions like around Cushing?
Driving an RV around Cushing is refreshingly straightforward. The terrain is gently rolling Oklahoma prairie, with mostly flat, two-lane state highways like SH-18, SH-33, and US-377. Watch for strong crosswinds, especially in spring from March through May, which can push high-profile vehicles like Class A motorhomes. Cushing is also a major crude-oil pipeline hub, so you'll share some roads with tanker trucks, give them room. Tornado season peaks April through June, so check the National Weather Service Norman forecast each morning and avoid driving during severe thunderstorm warnings. If winds gust above 35 mph, plan a shorter driving day and enjoy an extra night at Keystone Lake instead.
weather.gov/oun/What amenities and hookups can I expect at campgrounds near Cushing?
Campgrounds near Cushing are well-equipped for RV travelers. Keystone State Park offers 30 and 50 amp electric, water hookups, and full hookup sites at the Lake Country and Green Country campgrounds, plus comfort stations with hot showers and a dump station. Lake McMurtry has electric and water sites. Most private RV parks in Cushing provide full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50 amp), Wi-Fi, and laundry. Dump stations are available at Keystone State Park and at several gas stations along US-64. Top off your fresh water tank before leaving town since some smaller Corps of Engineers campgrounds around Keystone Lake offer electric-only sites.
travelok.com/state-parks/keystone-state-parkWhat's inside a typical Cushing RV rental?
You'll be surprised how much fits into a Cushing RV rental. Expect a queen or king bed, fold-out couches or dinettes that convert to extra sleeping space (most rigs sleep 4 to 8), a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, a wet or dry bathroom with a shower and toilet, climate control with air conditioning and furnace, and seatbelts for travel. Many motorhome rentals in Cushing also include a generator, awning, outdoor speakers, a TV, and sometimes Wi-Fi or a cell booster, handy for streaming at Keystone Lake. Use the Sleeps filter on RVezy to match capacity to your group. Ask the host whether linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are included or available as add-ons.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cushing,OklahomaWhat add-ons and pickup options should I know about?
Cushing hosts on RVezy offer plenty of optional extras to make your trip easier. Common add-ons include linen and towel packages, kitchen kits, generators, propane refills, camp chairs, outdoor grills, bike racks, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Mileage policies vary by listing: many include 100 to 150 free miles per night with additional miles charged per mile, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages for longer Oklahoma loops. Pickup is usually at the host's driveway in or near Cushing, or you can choose delivery for an extra fee. Bundle add-ons at booking rather than at pickup, hosts can prep everything in advance and you'll save time on departure day.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Cushing,OklahomaHow do payment and the security deposit work?
Payment for your RV rental in Cushing is handled securely through the RVezy platform, with no cash or side payments to the host. You'll pay the booking total (rental fee, taxes, add-ons, and protection plan) when you reserve, and a refundable security deposit is pre-authorized on your card before pickup. The deposit amount depends on the RV and is released after drop-off, assuming the rig comes back in the same condition it left. To avoid any issues, take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior, exterior, and tanks at both pickup and return. Do the walkthrough side-by-side with your host and note any pre-existing scratches or dings in the messaging thread so everything is documented.
