Campgrounds and RV parks near Helena, OK

Helena sits in Alfalfa County in northwest Oklahoma, roughly a half-hour drive from Great Salt Plains Lake and within easy reach of several small-town RV parks. The area is flat, agricultural, and lightly trafficked, which makes it an easy base for RV travelers heading between Enid, Woodward, and the Kansas border. Nearby options include Westlake Recreation Area, Sandy Beach - Salt Plain State Park, Ashley Lane RV Park, High Point RV Park, and Shady Lane RV Park. Salt Plains State Park sits on the shallow, saltwater Great Salt Plains Lake, which is about half as salty as the ocean. The park is best known for the public selenite crystal dig area inside the adjacent Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge, where crystals form just under the surface in an hourglass shape found nowhere else in the world. Outside the park, most campgrounds in the area are small, private RV parks geared toward travelers on Highway 64 and nearby routes, with basic hookups rather than resort amenities.

Sites at Sandy Beach and other loops in Salt Plains State Park are handled through the Oklahoma State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made at least one day ahead of arrival and can be made up to eleven months in advance. One complimentary parking pass is included with each accommodation, and additional vehicles incur a parking fee and must be registered. Private parks near Helena, including Ashley Lane RV Park, High Point RV Park, and Shady Lane RV Park, are typically booked by phone or through their own websites, with shorter lead times than the state park. Holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill first at the state park, especially waterfront loops, so plan several weeks ahead for summer trips and consider mid-week arrivals for better availability.
