Campgrounds near Kenwood, Oklahoma
Kenwood sits in Delaware County in northeast Oklahoma, within short driving distance of two large reservoirs that anchor most camping trips in the region: Spavinaw Lake to the west and Grand Lake O' the Cherokees to the north. The area is served by a mix of Oklahoma State Park campgrounds and privately run RV parks, and it draws steady traffic from families based in Tulsa, northwest Arkansas, and southwest Missouri.
The closest developed state park camping is Spavinaw State Park, which offers RV and tent sites with a comfort station and a large covered shelter, plus a shallow swimming beach. Farther south, Cherokee Area at Grand Lake State Park sits on Grand Lake O' the Cherokees and consists of several smaller areas located near the Pensacola Dam and around the lake, including the Riverside and Lakeside campgrounds. Thousand Oaks Resort adds an adults-only cabin and RV option near Langley, and Lake Hudson RV Park offers sites on Lake Hudson to the west.
Most trips here are built around water: fishing, boating, and swimming on Grand Lake, Lake Hudson, or Spavinaw Lake.
Things to do near Kenwood
Fishing is the headline activity. Grand Lake O' the Cherokees covers 46,500 surface acres with 1,300 miles of shoreline, and Lake Hudson is widely regarded as one of Oklahoma's top bass-fishing lakes. Varieties of fish in Spavinaw Lake include channel catfish, crappie, large and smallmouth bass, sunfish, spotted bass, walleye and white bass, making it a strong choice for families with mixed skill levels.
Beyond fishing, campers swim at the shallow beach at Spavinaw State Park and the Lakeside campground, launch boats from lighted ramps in the Cherokee Area, and play the 9-hole golf course next to the park office. From late October through March, the area below Pensacola Dam on the Grand River is a haven for bald eagles as they hunt fish, giving families a reliable cold-weather wildlife stop. Hiking, picnicking, and biking round out the options.

Summer is the busiest season. Warm water, long daylight, and school vacations push demand at Grand Lake, Spavinaw, and Lake Hudson to its yearly peak, and lakefront sites at private parks such as Thousand Oaks Resort and Lake Hudson RV Park often book out well in advance around Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. Reserve early if a specific holiday weekend matters.
Spring brings blooming Dogwood trees lining the stream below the spillway and the region's wettest stretch, with May typically the rainiest month. Thunderstorms and occasional severe weather are normal for the southern Plains, and low-lying tent sites can get soggy. Fall is a strong shoulder season with cooler nights, lighter crowds, and pecans that can be gathered from trees on the property at the Cherokee Area.
Winter is the quietest time. Spavinaw Area and Cherokee Area at Grand Lake State Park are open year round, but many private amenities such as pools and camp stores run on shortened seasons, and eagle watching below Pensacola Dam becomes the main draw.
How to book campgrounds near Kenwood
Oklahoma State Park sites at Spavinaw State Park and the Cherokee Area at Grand Lake State Park are reserved online through the Oklahoma State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. Reservations must be made 1 day ahead of arrival and can be made up to 11 months in advance. Some sites may be available only from the campground on a first-come, first-served basis.
Private parks handle their own bookings. Thousand Oaks Resort is an adults-only cabin resort near Grand Lake that handles booking and general inquiries virtually via text and email, with cabins subject to a two-night minimum. Lake Hudson RV Park takes short-term and long-term stays. For summer holidays and any big fishing tournament, plan to lock in a site several weeks out.
What to expect
State park campgrounds in the Cherokee Area vary widely. The Riverside Campground below the Pensacola Dam features tent sites that must be reserved online, plus a group shelter and boat ramp with river access, and has pit toilets. Lakeside is a semi-modern campground right by the lake with 12 RV sites and 15 tent sites, a 30-foot maximum RV length, and 30-amp hookups, so larger rigs should confirm fit before booking. Spavinaw State Park has 26 sites with water and electric hookups and 18 tent-only sites, drinking water, flush toilets, coin-operated showers, and a dump station.
Cell coverage in the area is generally usable but can be spotty in wooded sites near the water. Expect chiggers and ticks in warmer months, mosquitoes near the creeks, and shaded sites under mature oaks and dogwoods. Deer, waterfowl, and, in winter, bald eagles are common wildlife sightings.

Spring brings the chance of severe thunderstorms, so check the forecast and avoid driving in heavy rain or hail. Winter ice storms can make hilly stretches slick, though they're rare. You'll typically pay a portion at booking with the balance charged closer to your trip start. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (the amount is shown on the listing) and released after your trip once the host confirms the RV came back in good shape. To avoid any holds, follow the host's checkout list: dump tanks if required, refill propane and fuel to the starting level, and snap photos at drop-off.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksCan I rent an RV in Kenwood during winter, and is cold-weather camping doable?
Yes, a winter RV rental in Kenwood is absolutely doable, and it's a quieter, more affordable way to enjoy Grand Lake. Many RVezy hosts keep rigs available year-round and several have four-season models with heated holding tanks, enclosed underbellies, and propane furnaces that handle the occasional Delaware County cold snap (January lows average around the mid-20s Fahrenheit). For winter trips, choose a campground with shore power like Bernice State Park or Cherokee Landing so you can run electric heat, and ask your host for a heated water hose. Pro tip: bald eagle viewing along Grand Lake peaks December through February, bring binoculars and enjoy a peaceful Kenwood RV trip with the shoreline practically to yourself.
