RV camping near Perkins, Oklahoma
Perkins sits in central Oklahoma along the Cimarron River, roughly between Stillwater and Oklahoma City. The town is a practical base for RV travelers who want quiet small-town amenities with quick access to college-town services, lake recreation, and Interstate 35.
Campground options nearby span full-hookup private parks and a large university-managed lake area. Lake Carl Blackwell, west of Stillwater, offers a mix of RV sites and lakeside recreation on a reservoir owned and operated by Oklahoma State University. Morning View RV Park, Whitetail Woods RV Park, and Sunset Ridge RV Park serve travelers who need pull-through sites, longer stays, or highway-close convenience. Saints Grove Campground adds another nearby option for families.
Most sites in the area accommodate Class A, Class C, and travel-trailer rigs. Cell coverage is generally reliable, propane and dump stations are available in Stillwater and along US-177, and grocery resupply is straightforward in either Perkins or Stillwater.
Things to do near Perkins
Water recreation centers on Lake Carl Blackwell, where boating, kayaking, shoreline fishing, and mountain-bike trails draw weekend visitors. The lake also features a disc golf course and horseback riding on miles of trails. The Cimarron River corridor near Perkins offers easy paddling and sandbar exploration when flow levels cooperate. Anglers target largemouth bass, crappie, and catfish across the region's reservoirs.
Stillwater, about fifteen minutes north, adds college-town dining, the Oklahoma State University campus, and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Families often pair a lake day with a museum stop or a Boomer Lake walk. Day trips reach Oklahoma City attractions, the Sac and Fox Nation cultural sites, and the Pawnee Bill Ranch. Route 66 landmarks are within an hour, making themed drives an easy add-on for kids.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in central Oklahoma. April and May bring wildflowers, green pastures, and mild days, but also the peak of severe-thunderstorm and tornado season, so travelers should monitor watches and warnings and choose parks with sturdy shade rather than exposed sites.
Summer runs hot and humid. Daytime highs frequently reach the low-to-mid-thirties Celsius from late June through August, and shade plus 50-amp service for air conditioning become priorities. Lake activity peaks during this window, and holiday weekends fill quickly at Lake Carl Blackwell and nearby private parks.
Fall delivers the region's most reliable weather: warm days, cool nights, and lower rainfall through October and November. Winter camping is workable for self-contained rigs, though ice storms and brief cold snaps can disrupt water hookups. Booking two to eight weeks ahead is standard for shoulder-season weekends, and further out for football home games in Stillwater.
How to book campgrounds near Perkins
Lake Carl Blackwell handles nightly RV, tent, and cabin reservations through Campspot, with the OSU permit office available by phone for longer-term or annual leases. Sites near the water and with electric hookups turn over first, especially for summer weekends and OSU football home games. Quiet hours are enforced, and payment is by credit card at the time of booking.
Private parks including Morning View RV Park, Whitetail Woods RV Park, and Sunset Ridge RV Park typically accept phone and online reservations directly through their own websites. Weekly and monthly stays are common, and workforce travelers occupy a share of long-term sites year-round.
For Saints Grove Campground and other smaller sites, calling ahead is the most reliable path. Travelers should confirm rig length limits, big-rig turning access, and whether sewer is at-site or via a central dump.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Perkins is gently rolling cross-timbers: post oak and blackjack oak woodlands mixed with pasture and sandy soils. Sites are generally level, but heavy rain can leave low spots soft, so leveling blocks and a small tarp for the entry step are useful.
Wind is a defining feature of central Oklahoma. Awnings should be retracted when leaving the site, and slide-out toppers benefit from regular inspection. Ticks and chiggers are active from spring through early fall, and mosquitoes pick up near the lakes after wet stretches.
Wildlife includes white-tailed deer, wild turkey, armadillos, and a range of songbirds. Quiet hours are enforced at most parks, including a 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. window at Lake Carl Blackwell, and generator rules vary, so travelers relying on boondocking-style power should confirm policies at check-in.

weather.gov/oun/I've never driven an RV. Will I be okay in Perkins?
You've got this, and Perkins is a forgiving place to learn. Highway 177 and the rural roads around town are wide, lightly trafficked, and free of the hills you'd hit out west, perfect for a first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host does a hands-on orientation at pickup, showing you how to operate the slides, awning, water systems, generator, and dump valves. Don't be shy about asking questions or taking notes on your phone. Start with a smaller Class C or travel trailer if you're nervous, and consider booking delivery so the host parks and levels the rig for you. By night two, you'll feel like a pro.

Pro tip: snap a photo of the RV's tire info and VIN at pickup so you can share it instantly with roadside if needed. Most issues are sorted within a couple of hours.
