Warner camping overview
Warner sits in Muskogee County in eastern Oklahoma, roughly halfway between Muskogee and I-40, and within a short drive of Greenleaf Lake, the Lower Illinois River, and Lake Tenkiller. The area falls in the foothills of the Oklahoma Ozarks, with wooded hills, spring-fed rivers, and reservoirs that anchor most of the region's camping.
RV travelers have a mix of state-park and private-resort options within about a 30-minute radius. Silver Canyon RV Ranch and the Playside area of Greenleaf State Park sit closest to town, while Evergreen Marina, Marval Resort, and Marval Family Camping Resort cluster along the Lower Illinois River near Gore, about five miles below the Lake Tenkiller dam.
Greenleaf State Park is the primary public campground in the immediate area, with lakefront sites, cabins, and a marina. The Marval properties are the larger private option, oriented around river access, trout fishing, and family amenities. Together they cover most trip styles, from hookup-heavy resort stays to quieter state-park loops.
Things to do near Warner
Water dominates the itinerary. Greenleaf Lake allows fishing boats with motors but prohibits jet skis and other motorized watercraft, which keeps the water calm for swimming, kayaking, and shoreline fishing. The Lower Illinois River, stocked with rainbow trout year-round, is a popular float for tubing, kayaking, and canoeing, with outfitters in Gore renting gear.
On land, Greenleaf State Park has hiking trails, a nature center, mini-golf, a splash pad, a kids' fishing pond, and a swim beach. Marval Resort adds an outdoor swimming pool, splash pad, nine-hole mini-golf course, game room, volleyball and basketball courts, and planned kids' activities during peak season.
Off-site, families can head to Lake Tenkiller for larger open water, or into Muskogee for restaurants, groceries, and rainy-day stops.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel in this part of Oklahoma. Daytime highs sit in the 60s and 70s, wildflowers and fall color show along the trails, and lake levels stay reliable. May is the wettest month of the year, however, and severe-thunderstorm and tornado risk is highest from April into June, so watch forecasts closely.
Summer runs hot and humid, with July highs commonly in the low 90s and heat indices well above that. Weekends and holidays fill early at both Greenleaf State Park and the Marval resorts, and Lower Illinois River trout fishing draws steady traffic. Book several weeks out for Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day.
Winters are cool but usually mild, with occasional cold snaps and light snow mostly in January and February. Greenleaf State Park is open year-round, though the marina and some seasonal amenities like the splash pad shut down. Marval Resort operates year-round and hosts a trout tournament weekend on the Lower Illinois River in early spring.
How to book a site near Warner
Greenleaf State Park uses the Oklahoma State Parks reservation system on ReserveAmerica. All RV and tent sites must be reserved online, and the booking window opens up to eleven months ahead of arrival, with a one-day minimum lead time for most sites. The park office at 918-487-5622 can answer questions about site types, which range from semi-modern water-and-electric loops to full-hookup 50-amp pads.
Marval Resort, Marval Family Camping Resort, Evergreen Marina, and Silver Canyon RV Ranch are private and book directly through each property's website or by phone, with Marval also listed on third-party platforms such as Campspot and Spot2Nite. Marval offers seasonal sites for renters who want a fixed base. For peak weekends, reserve as early as the calendar allows.
What to expect on arrival
Check-in at Marval Resort is 2:00 PM and check-out is 12:00 PM, with early arrival possible when a site is ready. All guests, overnight or day visitors, are required to wear a wristband on property; quiet hours run from 10:30 PM to 7:00 AM, and trash goes to a central compactor at the far end of the property rather than site-side pickup.
At Greenleaf State Park, arrivals check in at the park office during posted hours. A parking pass is required for each vehicle, with one complimentary pass included per accommodation and additional vehicles registered separately. The marina sells firewood and ice but is closed on Tuesdays.
Expect mixed site surfaces at both public and private grounds, ranging from concrete pads to gravel and grass, and cell coverage can be spotty in the wooded sections along the lake and river.

travelok.com/state-parksWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip from Warner?
Spring (April to early June) and fall (mid-September through late October) are the sweet spot for RV camping Warner travelers rave about. Summer brings 90 to 95 degree highs with high humidity, so lake campsites with shade and A/C hookups are essential. Winters are mild but variable, with January lows around the upper 20s Fahrenheit and occasional ice. Local insider tip: late October at Tenkiller is unbeatable for foliage reflected off the clear water.

RVezy customer service is available before, during, and after your trip, and 24/7 roadside assistance is included with your protection plan. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage, but the entire continental US is open road for you.
nps.gov/hosp/index.htmHow much should I budget for fuel on my Warner RV trip?
Fuel is usually the second biggest cost after the rental itself, but eastern Oklahoma helps your wallet, gas prices in the Muskogee County area typically run below the national average. Plan on 8 to 10 miles per gallon for a Class A motorhome, 10 to 14 mpg for a Class C, 12 to 18 mpg for a travel trailer (depending on your tow vehicle), and 18 to 22 mpg for a campervan (Class B). For a 300-mile weekend loop through Tenkiller and Greenleaf, budget roughly $100 to $180 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at the Love's Travel Stop on Interstate 40 in Checotah, prices are competitive and the lots fit big rigs easily.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Warner?
Reserve Oklahoma State Park campsites well in advance through the official Oklahoma State Parks reservation system, that's the window Tenkiller, Greenleaf, and Sequoyah State Parks use. For Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day weekends, book the moment your dates open or you'll be looking at first-come sites only. Spring and fall midweek? You can usually grab something just a few days out. Private parks in the Warner area often take direct phone reservations and can be easier last minute. Pro tip: if your top park is full, check the US Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds at Lake Eufaula (Brewer Bend, Porum Landing) on Recreation.gov, they release sites on a different schedule.
recreation.gov/What are driving conditions like around Warner?
Driving an RV around Warner is refreshingly easy compared to big city RVing. Interstate 40 runs right through town with wide lanes and frequent truck stops, and the secondary highways to Lake Eufaula and Tenkiller (US-69, OK-10, OK-100) are paved, well maintained, and lightly trafficked. The Cookson Hills bring some gentle grades but nothing approaching mountain driving. Watch for two real local hazards: sudden spring thunderstorms from April through June that can bring hail and tornado warnings, and deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads. Pro tip: use the Oklahoma 511 service for real-time road and weather alerts, eastern Oklahoma storms move fast and pulling off early at a rest area beats white-knuckling through it.
oklahoma.gov/odot/travel/oklahoma-511.htmlWhat amenities do campgrounds near Warner offer?
Local campgrounds are well equipped for a comfortable Warner RV trip. Greenleaf and Tenkiller State Parks provide a mix of full-hookup, electric-and-water-only, and primitive sites, plus dump stations, hot showers, and potable water fill stations centrally located in each campground. Sequoyah State Park on Fort Gibson Lake adds a marina, swim beach, and laundry. Army Corps campgrounds on Lake Eufaula commonly offer electric sites, dump stations, and lake access. Pro tip: if you need to dump tanks mid trip, most Lake Eufaula Army Corps campgrounds and many private parks have public dump stations for a small fee, saving you a trip back to your home campground.
travelok.com/state-parksWhat's typically included inside a Warner RV rental?
Expect a fully turn-key setup. Most motorhome rental Warner listings on RVezy come with a queen or king bed, fold-out dinette and/or sofa sleepers, a working kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink, cookware, plates, and utensils), a bathroom with shower and toilet, roof-mounted air conditioning, propane heat, and seatbelted travel seats. Many include a TV, and a growing number offer Wi-Fi hotspots or cell boosters, handy because cell signal around Greenleaf State Park can be spotty. Generators are common in Class A and Class C rigs, less so in travel trailers. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list carefully and message the host to confirm linens, towels, and outdoor chairs are included before packing duplicates.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Warner%2C%20OklahomaWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect?
Hosts on RVezy offer a flexible menu of add-ons to customize your campervan rental Warner or motorhome experience: bedding and linen packages, camp chairs and outdoor rugs, propane refills, bike racks, generators, kayaks, and even pre-stocked kitchen kits. Pickup is typically at the host's home in or near Warner with a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough, or you can pay for delivery to your campground. Mileage policies and add-on fees are clearly displayed on each listing before you book, no surprises. Pro tip: ask the host about a generator add-on if you're heading to Greenleaf, several campsites there are electric-only with limited amps and a backup generator means worry-free A/C in July.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Warner%2C%20OklahomaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is straightforward and handled entirely through RVezy, you pay by credit card at the time of booking. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released back to you after return, assuming no damage or excess mileage. You'll never hand cash to a host. To avoid any deposit issues on your Warner RV trip, take date-stamped photos and a short video of the interior, exterior, and odometer at pickup and return, top off fuel and propane before drop-off, and empty the black and grey tanks at a dump station before returning the RV.
