Winchester is a small community in Okmulgee County, Oklahoma, located just east of U.S. Highway 75 approximately twelve miles north of Okmulgee and about twenty-five miles south of downtown Tulsa. The town sits in the rolling oak-covered country of eastern Oklahoma and has no retail businesses or major municipal services of its own, so most trip logistics run through Beggs, Okmulgee, or the Tulsa metro. The area's biggest camping draw is the Okmulgee and Dripping Springs Lake and Recreation Area, a two-lake park west of Okmulgee comprising the 668-acre Okmulgee Lake and the 1,150-acre Dripping Springs Lake. Together the two lakes offer 123 semi-modern RV sites and 72 primitive tent sites, along with boat ramps and shoreline access, including the Red Oak Area at Okmulgee Lake.
