Camping near Bayshore, Oregon
Bayshore is a small residential community on the north side of Alsea Bay, just across the bridge from Waldport on Oregon's central coast. The location sits roughly 15 miles south of Newport and a similar distance north of Yachats, putting most central-coast attractions within a short drive on Highway 101. RV campers use Bayshore as a base for beach access, bay fishing, and tide-pooling along the rocky shoreline at Seal Rock.
Lodging options range from full-hookup commercial parks to a coastal state campground. Campgrounds for RV camping in the area include Beachside State Recreation Site with electric and water hookups, Waldport / Newport KOA Journey just across the Alsea Bay Bridge, and McKinley's Marina and RV Park on the Alsea River. Handy Haven RV Park and Car Wash and Seal Rock RV Cove round out the closest private options.
The area sits where the Siuslaw National Forest meets the Pacific, so most sites are either beachfront, bay-adjacent, or tucked into shore pine. Expect short drives to grocery, fuel, and dump stations in Waldport or Newport.
Things to do around Bayshore
The beach is the main draw. Bayshore fronts a wide sand strand that runs north toward Alsea Bay, with kite flying, beachcombing, and whale watching common from any nearby campground. Tide pooling at low tide is easy along the rocky shoreline near Seal Rock RV Cove, and the area supports marine life including starfish, sea anemones, and small crabs.
On the bay side, McKinley's Marina and RV Park gives direct access to Alsea River and bay fishing, crabbing, and clamming. Waldport / Newport KOA Journey sits near the bay for short walks along the Alsea, with a playground for families and easy access to the shoreline.
Day trips reach the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Yaquina Head in Newport to the north, and Cape Perpetua near Yachats to the south.

Private parks in the area camp year-round, but the state campground runs on a shorter calendar. Beachside State Recreation Site is open seasonally March 15 through October 31, weather permitting, with reservations booked up to 6 months in advance through Oregon State Parks. Summer weekends fill first, and holiday weekends often sell out the moment the booking window opens.
Summer brings the driest, clearest weather, though coastal fog is common even in July and August. Spring shoulder season in April and May brings gray whale migrations and wildflowers along with steady rain, while September often delivers the year's clearest skies. Winter stays mild, with storm-watching from November through February producing dramatic surf and the heaviest rainfall of the year.
Shoulder seasons reward flexibility. Sites at Beachside State Recreation Site and at Waldport / Newport KOA Journey are easier to grab midweek in May, September, and early October, when temperatures still support beach time.
How to book a site
Beachside State Recreation Site takes reservations through the Oregon State Parks reservation system up to 6 months in advance, with reservations required during the March 15 to October 31 season. The park has a mix of electric and water sites, tent sites, and two yurts, so filter by site type before checking dates.
Private parks book directly. Waldport / Newport KOA Journey reserves through the KOA site or app, and Handy Haven RV Park and Car Wash, Seal Rock RV Cove, and McKinley's Marina and RV Park take phone or online reservations through their own websites. Some local parks cannot be booked online and require reservation by telephone, so call ahead if a site lacks live availability.
For summer and holiday weekends, lock dates four to eight weeks out. Cancellations open daily through the Oregon State Parks system.
What to expect on arrival
Roads in and out of Bayshore are flat and easy. Highway 101 between Waldport and Newport is wide and well maintained, and the Alsea Bay Bridge handles standard RVs without issue. Most local parks sit directly off Highway 101 or one turn from it.
Hookups vary. Beachside has 32 electrical sites with water plus 42 tent sites and two yurts, but no on-site dump station; free dump stations are at South Beach State Park 17 miles north and Washburne State Park 17 miles south. Private parks like Waldport / Newport KOA Journey and Handy Haven RV Park and Car Wash typically offer full hookups.
Flooding can occur from ocean tides and heavy rainfall during spring and fall, so check site location relative to drainage. Pack rain gear regardless of forecast, and expect cool nights even in midsummer.

Oregon does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or special endorsement for any of the recreational vehicles available on RVezy, whether you're booking a campervan, a Class C motorhome, or a 35-foot fifth wheel. Approved renters are generally 25 or older, and RVezy verifies your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from another country? You're covered from the moment you book. Every RV rental in Bayshore, OR through RVezy includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit Highway 101 with real peace of mind. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you can match it to your comfort and budget. While this isn't traditional auto insurance, it provides meaningful financial protection against unexpected mishaps like a chipped windshield or awning damage from those famous Oregon Coast gusts. help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if my plans change? Can I cancel my Bayshore RV rental?
Yes, flexibility is built into every booking. There's a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund, and refund amounts after that depend on how close you are to your trip start date. Full cancellation details appear on the RVezy website during checkout, not in the individual host listing. Pro tip: book early to lock in the best Waldport-area rigs, you can always adjust later if life pivots.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Bayshore?
Absolutely, the Oregon Coast is one of the most dog-loving stretches of shoreline in America, and a pet-friendly RV rental in Bayshore makes it easy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to see hosts who welcome dogs, then message them with your pup's size and breed before booking. Once you arrive, dogs are allowed on Oregon ocean beaches as long as they're leashed or under voice control. Tillicum Beach Campground, Beachside State Recreation Site, and Waldport/Newport KOA all allow leashed pets at campsites. Pro tip: pack a towel by the door, that fine Pacific sand sticks to wet paws.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=v.page&id=146Can the RV be delivered to my campground near Bayshore?
Yes, and it's a game-changer for first-timers. RV delivery in Bayshore is offered by many RVezy hosts based in Waldport, Newport, and the broader Lincoln County area. They'll tow the trailer or motorhome to your campsite at places like Beachside State Recreation Site, Tillicum Beach Campground, or Waldport/Newport KOA, level it, hook up water, sewer, and electric, and walk you through every system before they leave. That means no white-knuckle drives across the Alsea Bay Bridge in a rig you've never piloted. Delivery fees are set by each host and usually scale with distance. Pro tip: filter by Delivery on RVezy and message hosts to confirm they service your exact campground.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=84How does mileage work, and how far can I drive on a Bayshore RV trip?
Bayshore is perfectly positioned for short, scenic drives, so mileage rarely becomes an issue. Each RVezy host sets their own daily mileage allowance (commonly 100-150 miles per day), and some offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is ideal for longer coast-hopping itineraries. From Bayshore you're about 15 miles south of Newport, 8 miles north of Yachats, 50 miles north of Florence's sand dunes, 40 miles south of Lincoln City, and roughly 135 miles from Portland. A loop of the central coast easily stays within most allowances. Pro tip: if you're planning a longer RV road trip from Bayshore down to Coos Bay or up to Astoria, filter for unlimited-mileage listings to keep your budget predictable.

State park sites generally run roughly $35-$52 per night. Pro tip: Tillicum's beachfront loop is hard to beat for sunset views, book it the day reservations open six months out.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=84When is the best time to visit Bayshore in an RV?
Late June through mid-September is the sweet spot for RV camping in Bayshore, when daytime highs typically average in the mid-60s to low-70s°F and rain backs off significantly. July and August are the warmest and busiest, with overnight lows around 52-55°F (you'll still want a hoodie around the campfire). Spring shoulder season (April-May) brings whale-watching migrations and wildflowers but more rain, while September often delivers the year's clearest skies, a local favorite. Winter on the central Oregon Coast stays mild but storm-watching season runs November through February with dramatic surf. Pro tip: book a rig with a covered awning if you're traveling May or October, marine mist is part of the magic but a dry outdoor space helps.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Bayshore?
You'll do great, Bayshore is one of the friendliest spots on the coast for first time renting an RV. Highway 101 between Waldport and Newport is wide, well-maintained, and gentle compared to many coastal routes. Your RVezy host provides a full walkthrough at pickup, covering propane, slide-outs, hookups, the generator, and the dump procedure, plus they're a text away during your trip. If you'd rather skip the drive entirely, request delivery so the RV is set up and waiting at your campground. Pro tip: do your first grocery run in Waldport itself before heading to your site, the in-town lots offer easier pull-through parking than tighter campground roads.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?

RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after your trip too. The nearest full-service repair shops are in Newport (about 15 minutes north) and Florence (about an hour south). The classic RV road trip from Bayshore heads south down Highway 101 to Yachats (about 15 minutes), Cape Perpetua (about 25 minutes), Heceta Head Lighthouse (about 45 minutes), and the Oregon Dunes around Florence (about an hour). Northbound, you can reach Newport's Yaquina Bay and the Oregon Coast Aquarium in under 25 minutes, Depoe Bay's whale watching in about 45 minutes, and Lincoln City in just over an hour. Inland, Corvallis and the Willamette Valley wineries sit about 90 minutes east via Highway 34. Pro tip: drive south in the morning so the ocean stays on your right for unobstructed cliffside views.
traveloregon.com/places-to-go/regions/oregon-coast/What should I budget for fuel during an RV rental Oregon trip?
Coastal Oregon fuel costs are manageable if you plan smart. Class B campervans typically get 16-20 MPG, Class C motorhomes typically deliver 8-12 MPG, and larger Class A rigs sit around 7-9 MPG. For a typical 3-day Bayshore loop covering roughly 150 miles in a Class C, expect a modest fuel bill at current Oregon pump prices. Self-serve fuel is now allowed statewide in Oregon, so you can pump your own or use full-service where offered. Pro tip: fill up in Newport or Corvallis where prices often run a few cents lower than smaller coastal towns, and check current local prices before your trip to dial in your budget.
gasprices.aaa.com/?state=ORHow far in advance should I reserve a campground near Bayshore?

Oregon State Parks opens reservations six months in advance via the official reservation portal, and Beachside, South Beach, and Beverly Beach all sell out for summer weekends quickly. A reservation fee applies. Private parks like Waldport/Newport KOA and McKinley's Marina typically book 2-4 months ahead for peak July-August. Shoulder season (May, September) is far more forgiving, often available a few weeks out. Pro tip: set a calendar alarm for early morning on the day exactly 6 months before your arrival date, log in early, and have your site number ready.

Highway 101 through Bayshore and Waldport is two lanes with regular pullouts, gentle curves, and posted speeds typically in the 45-55 mph range. The Alsea Bay Bridge just north of town is wide enough for any standard RV, though crosswinds can be strong, slow down and hold the wheel firmly. Coastal fog is common at dawn and dusk in summer; winter brings rain and occasional storm gusts. Highway 34 to Corvallis has some curves through the Coast Range but no major mountain passes. Pro tip: check TripCheck before you roll and avoid driving the 101 between 4-6 p.m. on summer Fridays when weekend traffic from Portland peaks.

Pro tip: top off freshwater and dump tanks before leaving any park, the next station can be 20+ miles down the coast.

Many RVezy hosts in Oregon do allow trips into British Columbia for renters with valid passports and clean driving records. Confirm permission in writing through the RVezy app and ask about any added cross-border fee. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because protection coverage does not extend there. Within the US, you're free to roam, popular routes from Bayshore include the full Pacific Coast Highway down to the Northern California redwoods. Pro tip: a Portland-to-Vancouver-BC loop from Bayshore makes a stunning 10-day RV road trip.
