Campgrounds and RV parks near Enterprise, OR

Wallowa Lake is the regional centerpiece, with a swim beach, marina, kayak and motorboat rentals, and a fish-cleaning station inside the state park. The Wallowa Lake Tramway carries riders to the summit of Mount Howard at about 8,150 feet, where alpine trails and a summit restaurant await, and the Chief Joseph trailhead at the park edge leads directly into the Eagle Cap Wilderness. Day trips from an Enterprise base include the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway loop encircling the Wallowa Mountains and Hat Point Overlook above the Snake River gorge. Joseph, just south of Enterprise, has restaurants, bronze galleries, mini-golf, and go-karts. Anglers fish the Wallowa and Imnaha rivers and the lake itself for kokanee and trout.

Enterprise has a humid continental climate with short, warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. July and August are the warmest months, averaging highs near 78 degrees Fahrenheit, and they are also among the driest, with July typically receiving under an inch of rain. This is peak RV season, and Wallowa Lake State Park books months ahead for summer weekends. Spring is wet by local standards. May is the wettest month, with rain on roughly 17 days and about three inches of precipitation. Many Forest Service campgrounds in the surrounding Wallowa-Whitman National Forest do not open until late spring or early summer, and Forest Road 39 (the Wallowa Mountain Loop connecting Joseph to Halfway) is typically closed by snow from fall through late spring. Fall cools quickly and brings strong color along the rivers. Winter highs hover near freezing, and snow accumulates from late fall through early spring. Wallowa Lake State Park stays open year-round, but water is shut off to individual sites from October through mid-May, and limited reservable and walk-in sites are available in the off-season as plowing allows.

Wallowa Lake State Park has 120 sites that can accommodate RVs and trailers between 25 and 86 feet, and 108 of those have full hookups with electric, water, and sewer. Amenities include flush toilets, hot showers at no extra charge, an RV dump station, an amphitheater, and a boat ramp. No generators are permitted anywhere in the park, so RV renters who need power should reserve a hookup site. Sites have a paved spur, table, fire ring, and grill, and can feel tight with limited privacy. Cell service is spotty in the canyons, and Wi-Fi is not provided at the state park. Deer are very common and food must be locked in a hard-sided vehicle. The nearest full-service groceries are in Joseph and Enterprise.
