Campgrounds and RV parks near Spokane, WA

The Centennial Trail runs 40 paved miles between the Washington-Idaho state line and the Nine Mile Recreation Area, with thirteen miles inside Riverside State Park between Spokane Falls Community College and Nine Mile Falls, making it a centerpiece for biking and walking from camp. The Bowl and Pitcher area is known for its CCC-built suspension bridge over the Spokane River and basalt rock formations, with hiking trails branching out from the bridge. Water activity centers on the Little Spokane River for paddling, the Spokane River for fishing and whitewater stretches, and Lake Spokane for motorized boating and swimming. The Equestrian Campground at Riverside State Park gives horse owners direct access to nine miles of trails designated for horses and hikers, an obstacle course, a 60-foot round pen, and an arena. In town, Riverfront Park preserves the legacy of Expo '74, with the Looff Carrousel, the Spokane Falls gondola skyride, mini-golf, and bike rentals geared toward families.

Spokane has a continental climate with short, warm, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. Most campgrounds inside Riverside State Park operate seasonally: the Equestrian Area campground runs April 1 through October 31, with water available mid-April through October 15, and Lake Spokane day-use, boat launch, and campground also follow an April 1 to October 31 schedule. Bowl and Pitcher group camp and sites 1-14 are open April 1 through October 15, and water and dump station are available mid-April through October 15, while day-use, cabins, kitchen shelter, and sites 15-33 stay open year-round. July and August are the warmest and driest months and the busiest for camping, but they also coincide with regional wildfire season. Wildfire season brings real risk in eastern Washington, with about 85 percent of state wildfires caused by people, so visitors should check park alerts and burn restrictions before lighting any fires. Shoulder months in May, September, and early October bring cooler temperatures, smaller crowds, and lower fire risk. Winter visitors can still use the Highway 291 boat launch, Avista day-use areas and boat-in sites, and the Little Spokane Natural Area, all open year-round, though many full-service campgrounds in the state park are closed.

Bowl and Pitcher has 32 single-family sites, 16 with water and electric and 16 standard, plus two group sites, with a maximum site length of 45 feet. Campground amenities include drinking water, flush toilets, showers and a dump station, but sites sit close together and offer limited privacy between neighbors. The Equestrian Area has standard and partial-hookup campsites with a corral at each site, two restrooms but no showers, and a kitchen shelter with electricity. Private parks fill the gap on hookups. Ponderosa Falls offers 168 full sites including 47 pull-throughs, with amenities such as a heated indoor and outdoor pool, sauna, hot tub, fitness room, mini golf, big-rig pull-throughs, cable TV, and laundry, plus 24-hour gated security and 20, 30, and 50 amp service. Trailer Inns RV Park provides full hookups, laundry, showers, Wi-Fi, and a pool on the east side of the metro.
