Campgrounds and RV parks near Glide, OR

The North Umpqua corridor is built around water and waterfalls. The Colliding Rivers viewpoint in Glide is one of the few places where two rivers meet head-on, and the river east of town is known for fly-fishing for summer steelhead and salmon. Between May and October, visitors can sometimes see steelhead and salmon jumping at Deadline Falls, a short walk from Swiftwater Park. Highway 138 east of Glide is signed as the Highway of Waterfalls. Family-friendly hikes lead to Susan Creek Falls, Fall Creek Falls, Toketee Falls, and Watson Falls, which at 293 feet is the highest waterfall in southwest Oregon. The 79-mile North Umpqua Trail follows the river and connects with the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail, giving hikers and mountain bikers many short out-and-back options. Whitewater rafting, kayaking, and swimming holes are common along the river in summer, and Diamond Lake and Crater Lake National Park are within day-trip range to the east.

Summer is the prime RV season. Days are warm and dry, the river is clear, and the public campgrounds along Highway 138 are fully open. The main BLM campground on the river corridor opens in late April and closes in late October, and other Forest Service sites along the North Umpqua follow a similar window. Weekends from late June through Labor Day book out early, so plan ahead. Spring brings high water, peak waterfall flows, and changeable weather. Wildflowers and migrating steelhead start showing along the river, but some Forest Service roads at higher elevation may still be gated or snow-covered. Fall offers cooler nights, lighter crowds, and salmon and steelhead runs into the tributaries. Winter camping is limited to lower-elevation private parks. January is among the wettest months in the Roseburg area and July the driest, and rigs heading east on Highway 138 toward Diamond Lake should expect snow, ice, and chain conditions in the Cascades from late fall through spring.

Private RV parks near the I-5 corridor offer full hookups, level pads, Wi-Fi where available, and pull-throughs that accommodate larger rigs. Sites tend to be open and sunny rather than wooded, and amenities such as laundry, showers, and a golf course at Bar Run Golf & RV Resort vary by property. Federal campgrounds along the North Umpqua are a different experience. There are no hookups at the campsites, campground hosts are on-site, check-in is typically at 1 p.m. and check-out at 11 a.m., and dogs must be on a 6-foot leash within the campground. Sites are shaded by mature Douglas-fir, cedar, and hemlock, with potable water and either flush or vault toilets depending on the site. Maximum length of stay on the Umpqua National Forest is 14 days. Cell service is spotty east of Glide, so download maps and reservations before leaving town.
