Campgrounds and RV parks near Lakeside, OR

The Oregon Dunes dominate the area. Typical activities include boating, canoeing, kayaking, swimming, fishing, off-road vehicle riding in the dunes, sand sledding, hiking, biking, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. ATV and dune-buggy rentals operate in Winchester Bay and along the dunes corridor for visitors who arrive without their own machines. Freshwater fishing is a draw at Eel Lake and Tenmile Lakes. Eel Lake has a good population of largemouth bass, along with crappie, stocked rainbow trout, steelhead, and coho salmon, and all coho must be released. Lake Marie at Umpqua Lighthouse is a small, quiet lake where non-motorized boats are allowed. For non-anglers, the Umpqua River Lighthouse, the Dean Creek Elk Viewing Area east of Reedsport, and crabbing off the docks at Salmon Harbor round out a typical itinerary.

Summer is the peak window. Umpqua Lighthouse State Park is open year-round and is busiest between Memorial Day and Labor Day, when temperatures are warmest and rain is least likely. Tugman and Umpqua Lighthouse both fill on summer weekends, and yurts and hookup sites typically need to be reserved months ahead. Shoulder seasons trade crowds for weather risk. Spring and fall are quieter with milder temperatures but a higher chance of rain. At Tugman, the A Loop is open to reservations year-round, while the C Loop only takes reservations from mid-May into early October, so RVers planning spring or late-fall trips should aim for the year-round loop. Winter on this part of the coast is wet but rarely freezing, and the state-park campgrounds, Salmon Harbor, and the private RV resorts all stay open. Beach access also changes seasonally: from March 15 to September 15, restrictions are in effect during western snowy plover nesting season, with foot and equestrian traffic on wet sand only and other recreation prohibited.

Most state-park sites in the area are wooded and on the smaller side, with paved or asphalt pads. Tugman offers 94 sites with electric and water hookups tucked into a stand of shore pines, plus 16 yurts, restrooms with hot showers, and an RV dump station near the overnight camp entrance. Umpqua Lighthouse has 12 full-hookup sites with sewer, electricity, and water, eight electrical sites with water, and 23 tent sites with water nearby; the nearest dump station is at Tugman, about five miles south. Expect cool, often foggy coastal weather even in summer, with shaded sites that may need leveling blocks. Wi-Fi is not available at Tugman. Quiet hours run 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the state parks, pets are allowed on six-foot leashes, and Oregon asks campers to buy firewood locally to help prevent the spread of invasive pests such as emerald ash borer.
