Campgrounds near Newport, Oregon
Newport sits on Oregon's central coast at the mouth of Yaquina Bay, roughly halfway between Astoria and the California border on US Highway 101. The town is a working port, home to Oregon's largest commercial fishing fleet, miles of sandy beach, the Hatfield Marine Science Center, the Oregon Coast Aquarium, and the West Coast home port of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. For RV travelers, that mix of beach access, marine attractions, and a compact bayfront makes Newport one of the most-booked stops on the coast.
Campground options within a short drive cover the full range. South Beach State Park anchors the south side of the bridge with 227 electrical sites with water, 60 tent sites, 27 yurts, three group camps, and a hiker/biker camp. Private parks fill in the rest. Harbor Village RV Park and Newport Marina and RV sit near the bayfront, Whalers Rest RV and Camping Resort is a Thousand Trails property just south of town, and Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort caters to larger Class A and Class C rigs north of town.
Most first-time visitors base out of South Beach for its size and beach access, then explore the bayfront, lighthouses, and tide pools by day.
Things to do near Newport
The Oregon Coast Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Science Center are the two anchor stops for families, both within a few minutes of South Beach State Park. The historic Yaquina Bay Lighthouse and the taller Yaquina Head Lighthouse north of town are open for tours, and Yaquina Bay itself supports fishing, crabbing, and clamming from public docks.
Inside South Beach State Park, hikers and cyclists can walk the Cooper Ridge Nature Trail and the paved South Jetty Trail, which is ADA accessible. The park also has a nine-hole disc golf course, a playground, and an equestrian trailhead with parking for horse trailers.
On the Newport bayfront, chowder houses, sea lion viewing platforms, and charter operators run whale-watching, salmon, halibut, and Dungeness crab trips throughout the year.

Newport has a mild marine climate with a sharp wet and dry split. Summers are cool, dry, and mostly clear, while winters are cool, wet, windy, and mostly cloudy, with distinct dry months from July to August and wet months from November through March. July is the driest month and December the wettest, averaging about 13 inches of rain.
Summer is peak season at every campground around Newport. Reservations for South Beach State Park are essential from June through October, when the campground is typically full, so most travelers book through the Oregon State Parks reservation system as soon as their dates open. Holiday weekends from Memorial Day through Labor Day fill first, with whale-watching weeks in late December and late March drawing a secondary spike.
Shoulder and winter trips are easier to book but mean planning around rain. Campsites in loops A through D at South Beach are reservable year-round, while loops E through I close from November until May, though loops E and F are sometimes reopened on a first-come, first-served basis if there is demand. Tent-only loops H and I close after the summer season, but tents are still welcome at any open RV campsite.
How to book a campsite near Newport
Reservation systems vary by operator, so check the right portal for the park targeted. For Oregon State Parks, campsites and yurts can be booked from one day up to six months in advance through the Oregon State Parks reservation system, with same-day reservations also available. The six-month rolling window means popular summer weekends at South Beach often clear within minutes of opening at 6 a.m. Pacific Time.
Private parks operate on their own calendars. Whalers Rest RV and Camping Resort is a Thousand Trails property and is booked through Thousand Trails. Harbor Village RV Park and Newport Marina and RV take reservations directly through their own offices and websites.
For Pacific Shores Motorcoach Resort, confirm rig eligibility before booking. The resort is restricted to Class A and Class C motor coaches 29 feet or longer, and trailers, fifth-wheels, toy haulers, Class B coaches, and tents are not admitted.
What to expect on site
Newport-area campgrounds run from full-service motorcoach resorts to no-hookup state-park loops, so amenities differ widely. At South Beach State Park, all sites in the A through G loops have electricity and water, there are no full hookups or pull-through sites, a dump station is on site, and H and I loop sites have no hookups and do not allow generators. Wi-Fi is not available at sites and is limited at the Hospitality Center.
Private parks typically offer full hookups. Whalers Rest sites include sewer, 30 or 50 amp electric, and water, with a clubhouse, indoor pool and hot tub, and mini golf on site. Pacific Shores has paved, concrete sites with 30 and 50 amp service, water, sewer, cable, and Wi-Fi, plus heated pools, sauna, and a clubhouse. Expect tighter spacing at bayfront parks and wetter sites at any park during the rainy months.
Quiet hours at South Beach run from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and pets must be leashed and attended at all times.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Newport, OR
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Newport, OR?
RV rental in Newport, OR is one of the best values on the Oregon Coast, with travel trailers typically starting around $90 to $150 per night, campervans around $150 to $225, and Class C motorhomes typically $200 to $300 per night. Shoulder season trips in May and late September stretch your budget furthest, since summer weekends along Highway 101 book up first and command the highest rates. For a cheap RV rental in Newport, filter by travel trailers (many hosts deliver and set them up at your campsite, so you skip fuel costs entirely) and look for hosts offering multi-night discounts. Pro tip: weekday Newport RV trips between Tuesday and Thursday often save you 20 to 30 percent versus Friday and Saturday pickups.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Newport%2C%20OregonDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Newport, Oregon?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Newport, Oregon. Oregon does not require a commercial driver's license (CDL) or special endorsement for personal RV use on Class A, Class B, or Class C motorhomes, so almost every rental on the platform falls well within standard license limits. You'll need to be 25 or older with a valid driver's license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) from your home country alongside your license. That's the entire checklist, no Oregon-specific paperwork required.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat's included for protection and peace of mind on my Newport RV rental?
Every booking on RVezy includes a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance, so your Newport RV trip is covered from the moment you pull onto Highway 101. The protection plan helps cover damage to the RV and gives renters real financial peace of mind. You can choose between different protection plan levels during checkout based on how much coverage you want, and that decision is yours as the guest, not the host's. Whether you're parked at Yaquina Bay or driving the foggy coast, you can focus on the lighthouses and tide pools knowing help is one phone call away.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Newport RV rental?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not the host), and every reservation includes a grace period right after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, your refund depends on how far out from the trip start date you cancel. You don't have to worry about comparing different policies between listings, since the same RVezy cancellation process applies platform-wide. If your host cancels, RVezy refunds you or provides travel credits. If plans shift, just log into your account and start the cancellation flow, or reach out to RVezy support for a hand.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Newport?
Absolutely, and Newport is one of the most dog-friendly coastal towns in Oregon. Use the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy to find a pet-friendly RV rental in Newport that welcomes your pup, then plan stops at Nye Beach and Agate Beach where dogs are allowed off-leash under voice control on the dry sand. South Beach State Park has paved pet-friendly trails connecting the campground to the jetty, and most coastal campgrounds (including South Beach and Beverly Beach State Parks) welcome leashed dogs at sites. Pro tip: message the host before booking if you have a large breed or more than one dog, as some hosts have pet limits or add a small cleaning fee. Bring a towel because sandy paws are guaranteed.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage&name=South%20BeachCan the RV be delivered to my campsite in Newport?
Yes, RV delivery in Newport is widely available and it's the easiest way to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many hosts will deliver and set up your travel trailer or motorhome directly at South Beach State Park, Beverly Beach State Park, Port of Newport RV Park, or the Waldport/Newport KOA, then walk you through everything (slides, hookups, water, propane) before they leave. Filter listings by Delivery on RVezy to see who offers it and their delivery radius from Newport. Pro tip: book a delivered travel trailer if you'd rather skip driving an unfamiliar rig over the 3,260-foot Yaquina Bay Bridge, you'll arrive to a fully set up basecamp ready for crabbing and clam digging.
portofnewport.com/rv-parksHow far can I drive on an RV road trip from Newport?
Newport is perfectly positioned for an Oregon Coast road trip in any direction. Cannon Beach and Haystack Rock are about 110 miles north (roughly 2.5 hours up Highway 101), Crater Lake National Park sits about 230 miles southeast (a 4.5-hour scenic drive), Portland is around 135 miles northeast via Highway 18 (just under 3 hours), and Bend in central Oregon is about 175 miles east through the Cascades. Each host on RVezy sets their own mileage policy, with some offering generous daily allowances and a few offering RV rental with unlimited mileage. Check the listing's mileage details before booking, and if you're planning a long loop, message the host to confirm the package fits your itinerary.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Newport%2C%20OregonWhere are the best campgrounds near Newport, OR?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping in Newport. South Beach State Park (just two miles south of town with full and partial hookups, beach trails, and a free dump station) is a top pick. Beverly Beach State Park (seven miles north, with direct beach access via a tunnel under Highway 101) is another favorite for families. Port of Newport RV Park & Marina sits right next to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Rogue Brewery in South Beach, and the Waldport/Newport KOA Journey 14 miles south offers year-round sites along Alsea Bay. For a quieter option, Seal Rocks RV Cove gives you ocean views about 10 miles south of town. Book state parks at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com up to six months out.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage&name=South%20BeachWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip to Newport?
July, August, and September are the sweet spot for Newport RV camping, with daytime highs around 64 to 66°F, the lowest rainfall of the year (often under an inch in July), and the clearest coastal skies. Late September is the local insider's pick: summer crowds thin out, gray whales begin their southern migration, and campsite availability opens up. May and June are great too, just expect occasional marine layer fog burning off by early afternoon. Winter (December averages 10 inches of rain) is for storm watchers who love wild surf at Yaquina Head, and many Newport RV rentals operate year-round so you can absolutely book a cozy cool-season trip. Pro tip: pack layers in any season, Newport rarely hits 75°F even in August.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Newport?
You'll be fine, and Newport is actually a great spot for first time renting an RV. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup covering driving, slides, generator, propane, water, and dump procedures, so you won't be left guessing. Highway 101 through Newport is two lanes with wide shoulders and easy pull-offs, and most local campgrounds (South Beach, Beverly Beach, Port of Newport) have pull-through sites that don't require backing up. The 3,260-foot Yaquina Bay Bridge looks dramatic but drives smoothly, just take it at posted speed. Pro tip: ask your host for a quick parking lot practice loop before you head out, and consider booking a travel trailer with delivery if you'd rather skip driving altogether on day one.
oregon.gov/odot/Pages/index.aspxWhat if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every booking comes with 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire, dead battery, lockout, or mechanical hiccup is one phone call away from a fix. Your host is also reachable by message through the RVezy app and usually responds quickly with troubleshooting tips (most issues are simple things like a tripped breaker or a propane valve). Newport itself has multiple RV service shops within a few miles of South Beach, which is a relief on the central Oregon Coast where the nearest big-city dealer is over an hour away. RVezy customer support is available before, during, and after your trip if you need backup.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Newport RV rental into Washington or California?
Yes, cross-state travel is generally allowed for your Newport RV rental, and many guests build multi-state itineraries up Highway 101 into Washington or south through Brookings into California's Redwoods. Hosts may set geographic boundaries in the listing, so confirm your route with them before booking (a quick message from the listing page does the trick). Travel into Mexico is not allowed on any RVezy rental because insurance and protection coverage don't extend across that border. Popular cross-border routes from Newport include heading north to Cape Disappointment State Park in Washington (about 200 miles) or south to Redwood National Park in California (about 320 miles). Message the host to lock in your route and confirm mileage allowances.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I plan for, and how much will gas cost?
Realistic budgeting goes a long way on the Oregon Coast. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 10 miles per gallon, Class A rigs around 7 to 9 mpg, campervans (Class B) 15 to 20 mpg, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 mpg). Oregon gas prices typically run a bit above the national average, and you can now pump your own gas statewide after Oregon changed its self-serve law in 2023. Most Newport stations cluster along Highway 101 and US 20, with the largest selection in South Beach. Pro tip: fill up in Newport before heading inland on US 20 toward Corvallis, since prices in the small Coast Range towns can be 30 to 50 cents higher per gallon.
oregon.gov/osfm/Pages/Self-Serve-Gas.aspxHow far ahead should I book campgrounds near Newport?
Book early and you'll camp happy. Oregon State Parks (including South Beach and Beverly Beach near Newport) accept reservations up to six months in advance through oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com, and the central coast is the busiest part of the entire system, so summer weekends and holiday weeks fill the moment they open at 6 a.m. Pacific Time. For a July or August trip, book in January or February. U.S. Forest Service sites in the nearby Siuslaw National Forest open six months out on Recreation.gov. Pro tip: Oregon State Parks now allows same-day online reservations statewide, so if you're flexible, check the morning of your arrival for cancellations. Mid-week stays in May, June, or late September are easiest to score last-minute.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=reserve.makeWhat are local driving conditions like around Newport?
Newport driving is relaxed compared to big-city RV trips, but a few coast-specific tips help. Highway 101 is the main artery and has wide shoulders, plenty of scenic pull-offs, and posted speeds of 55 mph that drop to 35 in town. The Yaquina Bay Bridge drives smoothly for any standard rig, just take it at the posted speed. Watch for coastal fog (especially summer mornings), occasional crosswinds on bridges, and elk crossings on US 20 heading inland. Winter brings rain and the occasional wind advisory, so check ODOT's TripCheck site before you roll. Pro tip: avoid Highway 18 between Lincoln City and Portland on Sunday afternoons when weekend traffic backs up at the Van Duzer Corridor.
tripcheck.com/What amenities will I find at campgrounds around Newport?
Newport-area campgrounds are well equipped for RVs of every size. South Beach State Park offers full hookups (water, electric, sewer) on some sites, electric-and-water on others, a free dump station and potable water fill across the highway at the day-use area, free hot showers, and firewood for sale. Beverly Beach offers similar amenities plus tunnel access to the beach. Port of Newport RV Park has full hookups, cable, and a dump station, and Waldport/Newport KOA includes Wi-Fi, propane fills, and a camp store. Cell service can be patchy at state parks (Verizon and AT&T both report weak spots at South Beach), so download offline maps before arrival. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot sewer hose and a water pressure regulator, both essentials for Oregon coastal hookups.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage&name=South%20BeachWhat features and amenities come standard in a Newport RV rental?
Most Newport RV rentals come fully equipped for coastal camping out of the box. Expect a real bed (or two), a full kitchen with stove, fridge, sink, and microwave, an indoor bathroom with toilet and shower in Class B, C, and larger units, dining seating, climate control, and seatbelts for every traveling passenger (always check the listing's seatbelt count if you have a larger group). Many motorhomes include a generator for off-grid power, and some campervans feature solar. TVs and Wi-Fi vary by listing, so check the amenities section. Travel trailers and fifth wheels need a tow vehicle but offer the most living space for the money. First-time tip: filter by Sleeps count to make sure your group fits comfortably.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Newport%2C%20OregonWhat add-ons can I get, and how do pickup and drop-off work?
Hosts in Newport offer a long list of optional add-ons that make your trip easier: linens and bedding packages, camp chairs and outdoor mats, propane refills, generator hours, kayaks and bikes (huge for paddling Yaquina Bay), kitchen kits, and even pre-stocked firewood. Pickup is usually at the host's home or a meeting spot in or near Newport, and the host walks you through the entire rig at handover. Drop-off mirrors pickup, just return the RV with the same fuel and propane level and an empty wastewater tank if required (the South Beach State Park dump station is free and right in town). Each host sets their own mileage policy too, often around 100 miles per day with the option to pre-purchase more.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=parkPage&name=South%20BeachHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: RVezy collects your trip total through the platform during booking using a credit or debit card, so you never hand cash to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (the amount is shown on the listing before you book, typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV) and released back to your card after the trip wraps up, assuming the RV is returned in the same condition. To avoid surprises, take date-stamped photos at pickup and drop-off, return with the same fuel level, and empty the holding tanks if your host requires it. Pro tip: budget a little extra for optional add-ons like generator hours or extra mileage so your final receipt matches what you planned.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's the local insider tip for a family RV trip in Newport?
Here's something most first-time visitors miss: book a site at South Beach State Park and you can walk (not drive) to the Oregon Coast Aquarium, Hatfield Marine Science Center, Rogue Brewery, and the South Jetty in under 15 minutes via paved trails. That single decision turns a family RV trip in Newport into a no-driving-needed basecamp where kids burn off energy on the bike paths while parents enjoy a brewery dinner. Time your visit for low tide (check the NOAA Tides chart for Yaquina Bay) and head to the tide pools at Yaquina Head Outstanding Natural Area, about six miles north, for purple sea stars and anemones. The lighthouse tours there are included with the small day-use fee.
blm.gov/visit/yaquina-head-outstanding-natural-area
