Campgrounds and RV parks near Oakridge, OR

Oakridge is widely known for mountain biking, with singletrack across the Willamette National Forest ranging from beginner flow to technical descents. Trails are typically accessible from late spring through October, with drier conditions in mid to late summer. Many trailheads sit within a short drive of Highway 58. Water recreation centers on Hills Creek, Lookout Point, Dexter, and Fall Creek reservoirs, plus the Middle Fork Willamette and Salmon Creek for fishing and swimming. Oakridge is popular with outdoor enthusiasts for its hiking, mountain biking, wildflowers, fly fishing, birding, watersports, and the nearby Willamette Pass Resort. In winter, Willamette Pass offers groomed cross-country ski trails and lift-served alpine skiing, with snowmobile routes on adjacent National Forest land. Waterfall hikes and the Aufderheide Scenic Byway round out day-trip options.

Peak RV season runs late spring through early fall, when forest-service campgrounds along the Middle Fork and Fall Creek are fully open and reservoirs are at recreational pool. Most parks on Fall Creek Lake are open May 1 through September 30, and Fall Creek Lake is drawn down each winter for flood control and downstream fish passage. Cascara operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no advance reservations and is open from May 1 through September 30. Summers are warm and dry with cool nights. Peak average temperatures are observed in August, with a high near 78F and a low around 46F. Late summer and early fall bring elevated wildfire risk, and fire bans are common in Oregon state parks, particularly in summer and early autumn, when wildfire risks are at their highest, and propane stoves are sometimes banned during extreme-risk periods. Winters are wet and overcast, with snow common at higher elevations along Highway 58 toward Willamette Pass. January through April, November and December are months with snowfall in Oakridge, and snow falls for about 21 days each year, totaling around 25 inches. Many seasonal campgrounds close, while private RV parks in town typically stay open.

Expect a forested, river-and-reservoir setting with elevations rising quickly east of town. Cell service is patchy outside Oakridge and drops off entirely on most forest roads. Highway 58 is the main corridor; secondary routes to campgrounds vary from paved to gravel, and some forest roads require careful driving for longer rigs. Facilities differ by campground type. State and forest-service sites are typically rustic, while private parks in and around town provide full or partial hookups, dump stations, and Wi-Fi. If camping at Cascara, bring your own water, since potable water is not provided. Wildlife is active across the area. Watch for deer, elk, and many bird species, and store food properly. Bring layers for cool nights, check current fire restrictions before arrival, and confirm reservoir water levels if boating is part of the plan.
