Campgrounds near Scio, Oregon
Scio sits in rural Linn County in Oregon's Willamette Valley, southeast of Salem and northeast of Albany. The town is known for the historic covered bridges of the Scio-Stayton-Jordan area, with six wooden spans within a short drive on a self-guided loop through farmland along Thomas Creek and Crabtree Creek. RV travelers use Scio as a quiet base between Interstate 5 and the Cascade foothills.
Campground options near town range from full-hookup private parks to forested state park sites. Mallard Creek Golf and RV Resort, Blue Ox RV Park, and Knox Butte RV Park serve travelers who want paved pads, hookups, and easy highway access from the Albany area. Silver Falls State Park, about a 40-minute drive north, is one of Oregon's largest and most visited state parks.
North Santiam State Recreation Area, now operated as North Santiam County Park by Marion County, sits along the North Santiam River on Highway 22 and offers primitive riverside camping. Together these options cover most RV trip styles, from short hookup stays to longer forest stays inside a state park.
Things to do near Scio
The Linn County Covered Bridge Tour is the headline activity. A driving loop links six historic spans near Scio and Stayton: Shimanek, Hannah, Gilkey, Larwood, Hoffman, and Jordan. Several bridges have picnic areas and creek access for swimming, wading, and rockhounding for agate, jasper, and petrified wood, with popular swimming holes at Hannah, Gilkey, and Jordan.
Silver Falls State Park anchors a longer day trip. The Trail of Ten Falls is a 7.2-mile loop that passes ten waterfalls, including the 177-foot South Falls, with sections of trail that walk behind the falling water. The park has more than 35 miles of trails open to hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding.
The North Santiam River draws anglers for steelhead and trout, plus kayakers and swimmers in summer. In town, the Scio Depot Museum adds a small-town stop between drives.

Summer is the prime RV window. June through early September brings warm, dry days, low rainfall, and the most reliable creek and river access. Swimming holes under the covered bridges at Hannah, Gilkey, and Jordan warm up to comfortable temperatures by midsummer, and the Trail of Ten Falls is fully open. This is also peak booking season at Silver Falls State Park, where summer weekends regularly sell out the moment the six-month reservation window opens.
Spring delivers peak waterfall flow at Silver Falls in April and May, lush green trails, and wildflowers, though rain remains frequent through May. North Santiam County Park is open for camping April through October. Shoulder months are easier to book and quieter on the bridge loop.
Winter is wet and cool, with fog, sub-freezing nights, and possible ice or snow at Silver Falls due to its elevation. Many private RV parks stay open year-round, but expect mud, limited daylight, and trail conditions that may be icy on higher ground.

How to book near Scio
Silver Falls State Park is booked through the Oregon State Parks reservation system at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com. Reservations open six months ahead of the arrival date, and summer weekends often fill within hours of that window opening. Setting a reminder for exactly six months out is the most reliable way to secure a site. Cabins require reservations; electrical sites with water are open year-round, while tent sites operate seasonally from May through October.
North Santiam County Park, formerly North Santiam State Recreation Area, is reserved through Marion County Parks on the CampLife platform up to one year in advance, with sites available April through October.
Mallard Creek Golf and RV Resort, Blue Ox RV Park, and Knox Butte RV Park are private parks. Book those directly with the property by phone or website, ideally several weeks ahead for summer stays.
What to expect near Scio
Sites near Scio range from full-hookup paved pads at private parks to forested back-in sites at Silver Falls and primitive riverside tent pads at North Santiam County Park. Silver Falls accepts RVs up to 60 feet, with electrical sites that include water but no sewer at the site; a dump station is available within the park. Cell service inside Silver Falls is limited and unreliable.
North Santiam County Park has primitive walk-in, bike-in, and boat-in sites, flush toilets, and a primitive boat launch, with some areas still showing limited shade following the 2020 wildfires.
Expect damp ground, mossy forest, and biting insects near creeks in early summer. Bring layers, rain gear most months, and buy firewood locally to comply with Oregon's emerald ash borer firewood guidance. Pets are not allowed on the Canyon Trail (Trail of Ten Falls) at Silver Falls.
