Camping near Waldport, Oregon
Waldport sits on the central Oregon coast at the mouth of Alsea Bay, midway between Newport and Yachats on US Highway 101. The town works as a practical base for RV travelers: it has full-service parks in town, an Oregon State Parks campground a few miles south, and Siuslaw National Forest sites within a short drive inland and along the coast.
Close-in options include Handy Haven RV Park and Car Wash, McKinley's Marina and RV Park, the Waldport / Newport KOA Journey, and Rovers RV Park, all within a few miles of downtown. The KOA sits on the north side of the Alsea Bay Bridge and offers bay views, full hookups, and cabins.
For a state-park experience right on the sand, Beachside State Recreation Site is just a few feet away from the beach, with 30 RV sites, 42 tent/car sites, four walk-in sites, and two yurts. Inland, the Alsea River corridor along Highway 34 adds national forest options.
Things to do around Waldport
The beach is the main draw. Visitors stroll along miles of sandy beach, watch for whales, and fly kites, and Alsea Bay is a productive spot for crabbing, clamming, and fishing from the docks and shoreline.
South of town, the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area is over 2,700 acres in size and sits just two miles south of Yachats, with the Cape Perpetua Overlook Day Use Area being the highest viewpoint accessible by car along the Oregon Coast, leading to an overlook at 800 ft. Trails reach old-growth forests, the Devil's Churn, and tidepools, plus features like Thor's Well and Spouting Horn at the rocky shore.
For a rainy-day backup, the Oregon Coast Aquarium in Newport is a short drive north, and the Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center in town covers local history.

When to camp in Waldport
- spring
March - May
54° / 44°F 140 mmCool and damp; Beachside reopens March 15.
- summer
June - August
64° / 52°F 25 mmDriest months; book coastal sites months out.
- fall
September - November
59° / 48°F 180 mmMild early, wet late; whale watching picks up.
- winter
December - February
48° / 41°F 290 mmWettest season; storm watching; Beachside closed.
Summer is the obvious peak. July and August are the driest and warmest months, and coastal state-park campgrounds fill quickly. Beachside is very busy in summer, so reservations should be made early, and the KOA also recommends booking ahead, especially for bay-view and patio sites.
Shoulder seasons work well for RV travelers who want availability. The Beachside campground is open seasonally March 15 - Oct. 31, weather permitting, so spring and fall trips line up with the state-park window. Cape Perpetua Campground usually operates from spring through fall, with exact dates varying each year, and may be closed during the winter months due to weather conditions.
Winter is the quiet season. Private parks like the KOA and the in-town RV parks stay open year-round, drawing storm-watchers and whale-watchers. Expect heavy rain, wind, and occasional coastal flood advisories. Flooding does occur from ocean tides and heavy rainfall during spring and fall, so check conditions before heading out.
How to book campgrounds near Waldport
Oregon State Parks uses a single reservation system for Beachside. Book reservations up to 6 months in advance at oregonstateparks.reserveamerica.com. Popular oceanfront sites and yurts go quickly the moment the booking window opens, especially for summer weekends.
National forest sites in the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area and along the Alsea River are reserved through Recreation.gov. Cape Perpetua Campground is managed by American Land and Leisure, and reservations can be made through Recreation.gov, and most rustic forest sites have no hookups.
Private parks handle their own bookings. The Waldport / Newport KOA Journey takes reservations through KOA.com or by phone. Handy Haven RV Park and Car Wash, McKinley's Marina and RV Park, and Rovers RV Park typically book by phone or operator website; call ahead to confirm big-rig length and hookup availability.
What to expect on the ground
Most coastal sites are tucked into spruce and shore pine, with cool, damp air even on warm days. Bring layers, rain gear, and a way to dry shoes. Standard sites at Beachside have electricity and water hook ups only, with free dump and sanitation stations located at South Beach State Park 17 miles north or Washburne State Park 17 miles south, so plan a dump stop accordingly.
Highway 101 noise is a real factor at oceanfront campgrounds, and sites closer to the road tend to pick up more traffic sound than sites further in. Cape Perpetua does not have cell service at the campground, but signal improves at the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center just up the road.
Beach access is generally short and walkable from coastal campgrounds. Watch for sneaker waves on rocky shorelines, keep dogs leashed in state parks, and use designated fire rings only.

stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=132Can the RV be delivered and set up for me in Waldport?
Yes, and RV delivery Waldport is one of the smartest ways to start your trip, especially if it's your first time renting an RV. Many RVezy hosts in the Lincoln County area deliver directly to local campgrounds like Waldport/Newport KOA Journey, Beachside State Recreation Site, Tillicum Beach Campground, or even a private driveway in town. The host levels the rig, hooks up water, power, and sewer, then walks you through every system before handing you the keys. Just filter for Delivery on RVezy and message the host with your campground name and arrival time. Show up, unpack the cooler, and start crabbing in Alsea Bay.

fs.usda.gov/recarea/siuslaw/recarea/?recid=42465Where are the best campgrounds near Waldport, OR?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Waldport options. Top picks include Beachside State Recreation Site (about 4 miles south, oceanfront sites with electric and water hookups, typically open spring through fall), Waldport/Newport KOA Journey (full hookups and big-rig friendly pull-throughs with Alsea Bay views), Tillicum Beach Campground in the Siuslaw National Forest (about 5 miles south, oceanfront sites, no sewer), Beverly Beach State Park (about 20 miles north with full and partial hookups), and South Beach State Park (about 17 miles north in Newport with hundreds of electric sites). Insider tip: Beachside fills up fast on summer weekends, so set a reservation alert for the moment the 6-month booking window opens.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=park.profile&parkId=84When is the best time to take a Waldport RV trip?
July through early September is hands-down the best window for a Waldport RV trip. Coastal summers here are genuinely dry, with July averaging less than an inch of rain and daytime highs in the comfortable mid-60s°F, occasionally pushing into the 70s during warm spells. June can still bring marine fog (locals call it the June Gloom), but it usually burns off by afternoon. For the smart-money play, target the shoulder weeks of mid-September through early October when crowds thin, salmon fishing peaks on the Alsea River, and the weather often stays mild. Winter visits are quieter and dramatic with frequent storms and 12 to 14 inches of rain per month, so pack rain gear and embrace storm watching from your RV.
weather.gov/pqr/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay around Waldport?
You'll do great, and Waldport is actually a forgiving place for a first time renting an RV. Highway 101 through town is wide, well-marked, and travels at a relaxed 35 to 55 mph, with plenty of pullouts for slower vehicles. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup, covering the generator, slide-outs, leveling, water, and dump procedures, and they're a quick text away during your trip. Choose a compact Class C motorhome or small travel trailer for easier handling on the curves between Waldport and Yachats. Pro tip: practice in the big Ray's Food Place parking lot on Highway 101 before heading south on the more winding stretch toward Cape Perpetua.
tripcheck.com/What happens if I have a breakdown or issue on the Oregon Coast?
You're covered around the clock. Every RVezy rental in Waldport includes 24/7 roadside assistance with the renter protection plan, so flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing are one phone call away whether you're parked at a Waldport RV park or pulled over at a Cape Perpetua viewpoint. For mechanical questions, your host is your first text, and most Waldport-area hosts respond within minutes. RVezy's support team is also available before, during, and after your trip through the app or website. Pro tip: cell coverage can be spotty along Highway 101 between Yachats and Florence, so screenshot your booking details and the roadside number before you leave Waldport.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Waldport RV rental on a road trip to other states or Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Waldport can absolutely cross state lines and even reach Canada with the right host approval. Travel within Oregon, Washington, California, Idaho, and Nevada is commonly allowed, and many RVezy hosts permit trips into British Columbia as long as you confirm in advance so the proper cross-border coverage is documented. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage doesn't extend across that border. Popular long routes from Waldport include the full Oregon Coast down to Brookings (about 230 miles south), the Olympic Peninsula loop (around 350 miles north), and the Redwoods in California (about 320 miles south). Message your host directly from the listing before booking to lock in your itinerary.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat should I budget for fuel on a Waldport RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable in any RV budget, so here's a realistic picture. Most Class C motorhomes around Waldport average 8 to 12 miles per gallon (MPG), Class B campervans get 15 to 20 MPG, and travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle (usually 10 to 14 MPG combined). Oregon gas prices typically run about $0.30 to $0.60 per gallon above the national average, and there's no self-service for gasoline at most stations (an attendant pumps for you, no tip needed). The closest fuel stops are right in Waldport on Highway 101 and in Newport 15 miles north. Budget roughly $60 to $100 per day in fuel for a typical Central Oregon Coast loop and you'll be comfortably ahead.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far ahead should I book a campground near Waldport?
Book early and you'll have your pick of the best spots. Oregon State Parks like Beachside State Recreation Site and South Beach State Park open reservations exactly 6 months in advance through the Oregon State Parks reservation system (reserveamerica.com or 800-452-5687), and prime summer weekends (mid-June through Labor Day) often sell out within minutes of the booking window opening. Private parks like Waldport/Newport KOA Journey and McKinley's RV Park & Marina take direct reservations and tend to fill 2 to 4 months ahead for July and August. Insider tip: set a calendar reminder for exactly 6 months before your target date at 7 a.m. Pacific and book Beachside's oceanfront loop the second it opens.
stateparks.oregon.gov/index.cfm?do=v.page&id=104What are local driving conditions like around Waldport?
Driving an RV around Waldport is straightforward once you know the local rhythm. Highway 101 is a two-lane scenic route with frequent pullouts, posted speeds of 35 to 55 mph, and the Alsea Bay Bridge right in town (no height or weight restrictions for standard RVs). Watch for sea fog in the early mornings, strong coastal crosswinds (gusts can exceed 50 mph in winter storms), and occasional elk crossings on Highway 34 heading inland toward Corvallis. The curvy stretch between Yachats and Florence demands attention but rewards you with stunning ocean views. Pro tip: check TripCheck.com before any drive, since Oregon DOT posts real-time alerts for slides, weather closures, and construction on Highway 101.
tripcheck.com/What amenities should I expect at Waldport-area campgrounds?
Most Waldport-area RV parks deliver everything you need for an easy stay. Full-hookup private parks like Waldport/Newport KOA Journey typically offer 20/30/50-amp electric, fresh water, sewer at the site, WiFi, hot showers, laundry, and a dump station. State parks like Beachside have electric and water hookups but no sewer at the site, and free dump stations are available at nearby Oregon State Parks including South Beach to the north. Potable water fills are available at the same dump locations. Pro tip: top off fresh water in Waldport before heading to dispersed Forest Service sites in the Siuslaw National Forest, where hookups disappear quickly.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Waldport,OregonWhat add-ons and pickup options can I expect from Waldport hosts?
RVezy hosts in the Waldport area love making your trip easier with popular add-ons. Common extras include camp chairs and outdoor tables ($5 to $15 per trip), bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen and cookware kits, generators for boondocking ($10 to $30 per night), bike racks, propane refills, kayaks and crabbing gear (huge in Alsea Bay), and pet packages. For pickup, most hosts meet you at their home base in or near Waldport for a 30 to 60 minute walkthrough; many also offer delivery within a 25 to 50 mile radius (covering Yachats, Newport, Florence, and Corvallis) for a flat or per-mile fee. Pro tip: ask about an Alsea Bay crabbing kit add-on — it's a Waldport must.
myodfw.com/crabbing-clamming/where-to-go-crabbing/alsea-bayHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment for your Waldport RV rental is handled entirely through the secure RVezy platform, with no cash, checks, or off-platform transfers, which keeps you fully protected. You'll pay the rental total, service fee, and protection plan at booking with a credit or debit card. The security deposit is separate from your booking payment: the host places a refundable hold on your card (commonly $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig) shortly before your trip starts, and it's released back to you after a clean return, assuming no damage or policy violations. To avoid issues, document the RV's condition with photos and a quick video at pickup and dropoff, return fuel at the agreed level, and stay under your mileage allotment or pay any overage promptly through the app.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhere can I park or boondock my RV overnight around Waldport?
Overnight RV parking around Waldport is easiest at established campgrounds — the Oregon Coast does not allow overnight camping on state beaches, in highway pullouts, or at most day-use parks. Inside city limits, Waldport prohibits overnight parking on public streets and lots, so plan to stay at McKinley's RV Park & Marina, Waldport/Newport KOA Journey, Beachside State Recreation Site, or Tillicum Beach Campground. For free boondocking, head east on Highway 34 into the Siuslaw National Forest, where dispersed camping is allowed at established sites for up to 14 days. Insider tip: the Alsea Falls Recreation Site (about 40 miles east) offers a quiet, forested boondocking-style experience with vault toilets and a swimming hole, perfect for stretching your Waldport coast trip into the Coast Range.
