Campgrounds and RV parks near Yoncalla, OR

The Umpqua Valley is built around the river, wineries, and wildlife. Fishing, swimming, and floating are common along the Umpqua, which flows west through Douglas County to the Pacific. Smallmouth bass fishing is popular on the stretch near Elkton, and drift boat ramps are available at several riverside parks. Families traveling with kids often head to Wildlife Safari near Winston, a drive-through park with open habitats for exotic animals plus a walk-through village area for closer viewing. The Umpqua Valley winegrowing region also draws visitors, with tasting rooms scattered between Yoncalla, Oakland, Sutherlin, and Roseburg. Historic Oakland, just south of Yoncalla, has a walkable downtown listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

In Yoncalla, summers are short, warm, dry, and mostly clear, while winters are cold, wet, and overcast. July and August are the driest, sunniest months and the peak window for booking. August is the warmest month, with an average high near 80°F and an average low around 48°F, and skies are typically clear. Fall brings cooler temperatures and the return of rain. Average lows drop into the 40s while highs hold in the 60s to low 70s until late October, when temperatures slide toward winter and foggy valley mornings become common. Wildfire smoke can drift into the valley in late summer in dry years, particularly from fires in southern Oregon and northern California. Winter is the wettest stretch. December is the rainiest month, with rain falling about 17.9 days and totaling roughly 4.17 inches, and valley fog can persist for days. Snow at valley elevations is uncommon, covering the ground only about 19 days per year, and accumulations are usually brief. Several seasonal parks close or reduce operations between late fall and spring, so confirm dates before booking.

Parks in this corridor lean toward full-hookup RV sites rather than tent camping. The Sutherlin/Umpqua Valley KOA Holiday offers full hookups with 50-amp and 30-amp service, plus water-and-electric sites, and accommodates larger rigs. Riverside parks tend to be smaller and tighter, with back-in sites that work for medium to larger rigs but limited pull-throughs. Elkton RV Park is set along the Umpqua and is geared toward anglers and travelers heading to or from the coast. Timber Valley has over 200 spacious full hook-up sites, available to qualifying Escapees members only. Cell coverage along the I-5 corridor is generally reliable but weakens west toward Elkton and on side roads into the Coast Range. Bring layers for cool valley evenings even in summer, and expect oak and fir shade at many sites.
