Camping near Aliquippa, Pennsylvania
Aliquippa sits in Beaver County in southwestern Pennsylvania, about 25 miles northwest of Pittsburgh along the Ohio River. The area gives RV renters quick access to state park camping, private campgrounds, and the wooded ridges and creek valleys that define this corner of the state.
The closest full-service public option is Raccoon Creek State Park, roughly 15 minutes south of town. The park covers 7,572 acres and centers on the 101-acre Raccoon Lake. The Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park area is the year-round rustic option, while private campgrounds like Hotel RV Beaver, Indian Brave Campgrounds, and Valley View Campground fill out the map to the north and east. White Thorn Lodge Family Nudist Campground operates as a clothing-optional private club to the northwest.
The local terrain is rolling hardwood forest cut by creeks, so most campgrounds have shaded sites and moderate grades. Pittsburgh International Airport is about 15 minutes east, which makes the region convenient for fly-and-drive RV trips.
Things to do around Aliquippa
Raccoon Creek State Park anchors the outdoor options. The park offers swimming, boating, and fishing on the lake, plus over 19 miles of hiking trails, and the Wildflower Reserve protects 700+ plant species across 4.5 miles of trails. Electric motors only are permitted on Raccoon Lake, so paddling and small non-powered boats are the norm.
Beyond the park, families use Aliquippa as a base for day trips into Pittsburgh: the zoo, the science center, and PNC Park are all inside 40 minutes by car. Closer to the campgrounds, the Beaver River and Ohio River corridors offer paddling, fishing, and riverside trails.
Winter visitors can enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating when conditions allow.

Peak RV season runs from late May through mid-September, when the full modern campground at Raccoon Creek is open and lake activities are running. A, B, C, and D loops open late May and close mid-September, while the Sioux Rustic Campground is open year round. Modern loops E and F operate early April through mid-October. Shoulder months in April, May, September, and October are quieter and cooler, with fall foliage typically peaking in mid-October.
Winter camping is limited but possible. During the off-season when most of the campsites are closed for the winter, campers still have the option to stay at the Sioux Rustic Campground, which is much more primitive but stays open all year long. RV renters should expect freeze conditions from December through February and confirm winterized water service before booking.
Summer humidity is common, thunderstorms are frequent in June and July, and biting insects peak from late May through July. Spring can be wet and muddy on unpaved sites.

How to book campgrounds near Aliquippa
Raccoon Creek State Park uses the Pennsylvania State Parks reservation system operated through ReserveAmerica. Reservations for all sites are available up to 11 months in advance, and off-season campers can still stay at the Sioux Rustic Campground. Popular summer weekends and holidays fill early, so booking several months out is the safer plan for a specific site or a pet-friendly loop.
Pet owners at Raccoon Creek need to pick a campsite at either Loop C or Loop F, because these are the pet-friendly loops. Private campgrounds like Hotel RV Beaver, Indian Brave Campgrounds, and Valley View Campground handle bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, and White Thorn Lodge Family Nudist Campground requires membership or advance arrangement as a private club.
What to expect on arrival
At Raccoon Creek, arriving campers with reservations proceed directly to their assigned site, and the contact station handles walk-ins and questions. Sites accommodate tents and trailers up to 50 feet, with electric service available at 15, 20, 30, or 50 amp depending on the site. Each site includes a picnic table and fire ring. The campground features five central washhouses with flush toilets and warm showers, a sanitary dump station, and a playground.
The Sioux area is rustic: expect potable water and non-flush toilets, no hookups, and darker, more forested sites. Bringing firewood into Pennsylvania is prohibited and could result in a citation, and all firewood must be burned prior to departure. Cell coverage is generally decent near Aliquippa itself but can drop inside wooded park loops.

Frequently asked questions about campgrounds near Aliquippa, PA
How much does it cost to rent an RV in Aliquippa, PA?
RV rental in Aliquippa is one of the more affordable ways to explore western Pennsylvania, with nightly rates typically ranging from about $90 for a compact travel trailer to $250+ for a fully loaded Class A motorhome. Travel trailers and pop-ups are usually the cheapest RV rental Aliquippa options, while campervans and Class C motorhomes sit in the middle. To save, aim for weekday pickups, shoulder-season dates in April to May or late September, and longer bookings (many hosts offer weekly discounts). Pro tip: filter by Instant Book on RVezy to lock in deals fast, and message hosts about bundled add-ons like camp chairs or kitchen kits to skip extra purchases.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Aliquippa,%20PennsylvaniaDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Aliquippa?
Good news: a regular Pennsylvania (or any U.S./Canadian) driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Aliquippa for every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. There's no commercial driver's license (CDL) or RV endorsement required in Pennsylvania, even for larger Class A rigs. You just need to be 25 or older with a valid license, and RVezy verifies your ID through the platform during booking, so the process is quick and online. International visitors should grab an International Driving Permit (IDP) from their home auto club before flying into Pittsburgh International Airport, just a short drive from Aliquippa. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward it is.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat protection is included with my Aliquippa RV rental?
Every RV rental in Aliquippa booked through RVezy comes with a built-in protection package and 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit I-376 toward Pittsburgh or PA-18 to Raccoon Creek State Park with real peace of mind. The protection package covers most damages to the vehicle and is not traditional insurance, but it provides meaningful financial protection. You choose your coverage level during checkout (not the host), so you can pick the tier that matches your comfort. Pro tip: snap a few photos at pickup during the host walkthrough, it makes any post-trip questions super easy to resolve.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat if I need to cancel my Aliquippa RV trip?
Booking an RV rental in Aliquippa is low-risk because RVezy (not the individual host) sets the cancellation policy, and it includes a money-back grace period right after you book. Beyond that, your refund options depend on factors like how far out from your trip you cancel and whether circumstances like severe weather or natural disasters are involved (western PA can see ice storms and flash flooding from the Ohio River valley). You won't see different policies on different listings, this is handled at the platform level. Pro tip: book early to lock in your dates, since the grace period gives you time to confirm plans without worry.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on a pet-friendly RV rental in Aliquippa?
Absolutely, plenty of pet-friendly RV rental Aliquippa options are available on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when you search. Many hosts in the Beaver County area welcome dogs (some welcome cats too) and a few even include perks like washable seat covers or a pet bed. Once you're rolling, Raccoon Creek State Park is a great nearby option for exploring with your pup on its many miles of trails, and the off-leash dog area at North Park in nearby Allegheny County is another favorite. Pro tip: message your host before booking to confirm pet fees and breed/size preferences so checkout is smooth and your pup is ready for the adventure.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/raccoon-creek-state-park.htmlCan the RV be delivered to me in Aliquippa?
Yes, RV delivery Aliquippa is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're flying into Pittsburgh International Airport (PIT) just a short drive away. Many RVezy hosts in Beaver County and the greater Pittsburgh area will deliver and set up your motorhome rental Aliquippa at a campground, your driveway, or even a tailgate spot near Acrisure Stadium. They'll level the rig, connect hookups, and walk you through every system so you skip the learning curve. Filter by Delivery when searching, then message the host with your delivery address to get an exact quote. It's the smoothest way to do a first-time Aliquippa RV trip.
flypittsburgh.com/pittsburgh-international-airport/How far can I drive on an RV road trip from Aliquippa?
You've got incredible range from Aliquippa for an RV road trip, since it sits right at the gateway of I-376, I-76 (PA Turnpike), and I-79. Popular destinations include downtown Pittsburgh (about 25 miles), Ohiopyle State Park and the Laurel Highlands (about 90 miles), Presque Isle State Park on Lake Erie (about 130 miles), Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio (about 110 miles), and Cook Forest State Park (about 95 miles). Hosts on RVezy set their own mileage policies, and some even offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, perfect for bigger loops. Pro tip: check the listing's daily mileage allowance against your route and message the host if you need extra miles added upfront.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Pages/default.aspxWhere are the best campgrounds near Aliquippa for RV camping?
The best campgrounds near Aliquippa give you a real mix of state-park beauty and full-hookup convenience. Raccoon Creek State Park (about 15 miles southwest in Hookstown) offers modern sites with electric hookups, hot showers, and a 101-acre lake. Bear Run Campground in Portersville (about 45 minutes north) offers full hookups and family activities. Mountain Pines Campground in Champion is great for Laurel Highlands trips, and Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park in Mill Run is a hit with kids. For something closer, Cooper's Lake Campground in Slippery Rock is popular for RV camping Aliquippa weekenders. Pro tip: book Raccoon Creek up to 11 months out for summer weekends, sites near the swimming beach disappear fast.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/raccoon-creek-state-park.htmlWhen is the best time to rent an RV in Aliquippa?
The sweet spot for an Aliquippa RV trip is late May through mid-October, when daytime highs typically run in the 70s to low 80s F and the campgrounds are in full swing. June and September are standout months: warm enough for swimming at Raccoon Lake, cooler nights for sleeping, and fewer crowds than peak July. Mid-October is magic for fall foliage across western PA, with Raccoon Creek's hardwood forests typically peaking around the second or third week. Winters get genuinely cold (average lows around 20 F in January with regular snow), so plan accordingly. Pro tip: book a shoulder-season Aliquippa RV trip in early June for the best balance of weather, wildflower blooms, and nightly rates.
weather.gov/pbz/climateI've never rented an RV before, what should I expect at pickup?
First time renting an RV? You're in great hands in Aliquippa. Your RVezy host will meet you at pickup (or at your delivery location) and give you a hands-on walkthrough of everything: how to start the generator, run the propane fridge, dump the tanks, hook up shore power, and operate the awning. They'll show you slide-outs, leveling, and the water system, and answer every question, no rushing. Most walkthroughs take 30 to 45 minutes. You can also message your host before the trip to ask anything. Pro tip: take short videos during the walkthrough on your phone so you have a personal reference when you're parked at Raccoon Creek State Park later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat happens if something goes wrong with the RV during my trip?
You're never on your own. Every RVezy rental in Aliquippa includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection package, so if you get a flat on I-79, a dead battery at the campground, or a tow situation on the winding roads of the Laurel Highlands, help is one phone call away. Your host is also typically reachable by message or phone for quick troubleshooting (think: how do I reset the inverter?). RVezy's customer support team is available before, during, and after every trip too. Pro tip: save the roadside assistance number in your phone before you leave Aliquippa, it takes 10 seconds and saves stress later.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Aliquippa RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, cross-state RV travel from Aliquippa is totally normal and one of the best parts of being here, you're about 15 minutes from the Ohio border, 30 minutes from West Virginia, and a scenic drive to New York or Maryland. Travel into Canada (think Niagara Falls, about 4 hours north) may be allowed depending on the host and their insurance, so message them directly before booking to confirm. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Pro tip: a classic three-state RV road trip from Aliquippa hits Pittsburgh, then Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio, then Wheeling, WV, all in under 250 miles.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect and what does gas cost near Aliquippa?
Realistic fuel planning makes your Aliquippa RV trip way more relaxing. Travel trailers towed by a pickup average 10 to 14 MPG, campervans (Class B) get 17 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes run 8 to 12 MPG, and big Class A rigs come in around 6 to 10 MPG. Gas prices in the Pittsburgh metro area typically run a bit above the national average, with most stations near Aliquippa accepting both regular unleaded and diesel. Fill up before heading into the Laurel Highlands where stations are spread thin. Pro tip: GetUpside and GasBuddy apps consistently shave 10 to 30 cents per gallon at stations along I-376 and PA-18, which adds up fast in a thirsty motorhome.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book campgrounds near Aliquippa?
For summer weekends and holidays, book your campsite as soon as you book your RV. Pennsylvania State Parks (including Raccoon Creek) open reservations 11 months in advance through the official PA state parks reservation system, and popular sites near the beach loop fill within hours of opening for Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. For private parks like Bear Run or Cooper's Lake, 2 to 3 months out is usually safe for weekends, 2 to 3 weeks for weekdays. Pro tip: weeknight stays at Raccoon Creek State Park are often wide open even in July, so if your schedule is flexible, you can grab a lakeside electric site on a Tuesday with almost no planning.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are driving conditions like around Aliquippa?
Driving an RV around Aliquippa is very doable, but a heads-up helps. The Ohio River valley means winding two-lane roads (like PA-18 and PA-51) with some steep grades and a few low railroad underpasses in the old mill towns, so always know your RV's height (most rentals are 10 to 12 feet tall). I-376 and I-79 are easy interstate cruising. Winter (December to March) brings snow, ice, and occasional lake-effect bands, so most renters stick to April to November. Pittsburgh's tunnels (Fort Pitt and Squirrel Hill) have ample clearance for nearly all rentals. Pro tip: if you're nervous about city driving, book delivery and skip the urban segment entirely.
511pa.com/What hookups and dump stations can I expect at Aliquippa-area campgrounds?
You'll find a great mix. Raccoon Creek State Park offers modern sites with electric hookups, flush toilets, hot showers, and a dump station, though water and sewer at the site itself are limited, so fill your fresh tank on arrival. Private parks like Bear Run Campground and Cooper's Lake offer full hookups (water, electric, sewer) at many sites plus laundry and Wi-Fi. For a quick dump on travel days, Flying J and Pilot truck stops along I-79 and I-76 have RV dump stations and potable water fills. Pro tip: ask your host whether they send you out with a full fresh water tank and empty waste tanks, it saves a stop on day one.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/raccoon-creek-state-park.htmlWhat features and amenities come in a typical Aliquippa RV rental?
Even an entry-level campervan rental Aliquippa comes equipped for real comfort: a sleeping area, mini-fridge, propane stove, and basic cookware. Class C and Class A motorhomes step it up with a queen or king bed, full bathroom (toilet and shower), microwave, AC, furnace, awning, and seatbelted seating for 4 to 7 travelers. Many include a TV, Bluetooth stereo, generator, outdoor speakers, and even Starlink or mobile Wi-Fi for staying connected at remote campgrounds. Each listing on RVezy shows exactly what's included, plus available add-ons. Pro tip: for a family RV trip Aliquippa families love, filter by sleeps 6+ and look for rigs with bunk beds, they're a game-changer with kids.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Aliquippa,%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and mileage policies should I know about?
RVezy hosts in Aliquippa offer flexible options to customize your trip. Common add-ons include camping kits (chairs, table, lantern), kitchen kits (dishes, pots, utensils), linens and bedding, bikes, kayaks, generators, propane refills, and delivery/setup. Fees vary, but most add-ons are $10 to $50 each and clearly listed. Mileage policies are set per host, usually 100 to 150 free miles per day, with overage typically $0.30 to $0.50 per mile, and some hosts offer unlimited mileage packages for longer trips. Pickup and drop-off windows are also host-specific. Pro tip: bundle add-ons at booking instead of buying gear separately, it's almost always cheaper than running to Walmart in Center Township the night before.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Aliquippa,%20PennsylvaniaHow does the security deposit and payment work on RVezy?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through the RVezy platform with a credit or debit card, no cash exchanged with the host. A refundable security deposit is held (not charged) before your trip starts, with the amount depending on the RV class and host. Assuming the rig comes back in the same condition with tanks handled per host instructions, the deposit is released after the trip. To avoid surprises, do the pickup walkthrough carefully, photograph any existing dings or scratches, return on time, and refuel/dump as agreed. Pro tip: keep all receipts (fuel, propane, dump fees) in a folder on your phone, it makes any post-trip conversation with your host fast and friendly.
