Clinton sits in Findlay Township in southwestern Pennsylvania, close to Pittsburgh International Airport and roughly a 40-minute drive west of downtown Pittsburgh. The closest full-service public campground is at Raccoon Creek State Park, one of Pennsylvania's largest state parks, which encompasses 7,572 acres and features the 101-acre Raccoon Lake. The park's 172 modern tent and trailer campsites have access to flush facilities, warm showers, and the option of electricity. The separate Sioux Rustic Campground stays open year-round with vault toilets and potable water.
Across the state line, Tomlinson Run State Park offers additional RV-friendly sites, while private options like Hotel RV Beaver and Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey add hookup-heavy alternatives closer to interstate routes. The KOA sits high up among wooded hills 28 miles south of Pittsburgh, making it a common stopover for I-79 and I-70 travelers.
Things to do around Clinton
Raccoon Creek State Park anchors most trip plans. The Wildflower Reserve contains one of the most diverse stands of wildflowers in western Pennsylvania, with more than 700 plant species along 4.5 miles of trails. The lake supports swimming, boating, and fishing, and the park has roughly 27 miles of hiking trails plus multi-use routes for mountain biking and horseback riding.
A short drive southwest, Tomlinson Run State Park covers nearly 1,400 acres of heavily forested hills in West Virginia's northern panhandle. Activities include hiking, fishing, boating on Tomlinson Run Lake, a swimming pool with a waterslide, disc golf, and mini-golf.
Families staying at Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey have easy access to the Meadowcroft Museum of Rural Life and The Meadows Racetrack and Casino, about 5 miles from the campground. Downtown Pittsburgh museums, stadiums, and the incline railways are also within a short drive.

The main camping season in this region runs spring through fall. At Raccoon Creek State Park, modern loops E and F operate early April through mid-October, while loops A, B, C, and D run from late May through mid-September. Tomlinson Run follows a similar rhythm: the campground is open spring through fall, weather permitting, and has a contact station, convenience store, dump station, and two bathhouses with showers and laundry facilities.
Summer brings the highest demand. Reservations are recommended, especially for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends when parks draw heavy crowds from the Pittsburgh area. Wildflowers at Raccoon Creek peak in spring, and fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October. Swim season at state park pools and beaches generally runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Winter camping options are limited. The Sioux Rustic Campground at Raccoon Creek stays available year-round, but most modern loops and the Tomlinson Run campground close by late October. Cold-weather visitors can still snowshoe, cross-country ski, and hike on state park land when conditions allow.

How to book campgrounds near Clinton
Pennsylvania state parks use a central reservation system operated through ReserveAmerica. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, and campers without a reservation should check at the contact station or park office for walk-up availability. Bookings can also be made by phone through the DCNR at 888-PA-PARKS.
Tomlinson Run State Park in West Virginia uses the state's own reservation portal. Reservations require no less than two consecutive nights on weekends (Friday and Saturday) or one night Sunday through Thursday, with a 14-night maximum stay.
Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey is booked directly through the KOA website or app, with a deposit required at time of booking and a 7-day cancellation notice on RV and tent sites. Private parks such as Hotel RV Beaver and White Thorn Lodge Family Nudist Campground take reservations directly through their own sites or by phone; holiday weekends fill fastest.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Clinton is rolling and wooded, typical of the Ohio River valley's western Pennsylvania hills. Roads leading into rural campgrounds can be narrow and hilly, so drivers of longer rigs should plan approaches carefully. Reviewers of the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey note that the roads in are narrow and the campground itself is quite steep in spots.
Sites vary widely by park. Raccoon Creek offers modern electric and non-electric sites divided into multiple loops, with 15, 20, 30, or 50 amp service depending on the site, plus a sanitary dump station, playground, amphitheater, and five central washhouses. Pets are permitted in loops C and F. Tomlinson Run accommodates RVs up to 50 feet, and about 33 of its 54 sites offer electric hookups.
Cell service can be patchy inside state park boundaries, so downloading the park map before arrival is recommended. Firewood should be purchased on site to avoid transporting pests.

weather.gov/pbz/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay?
You've got this. First time renting an RV in Clinton, PA is genuinely easier than most people expect, especially when you start from a quieter base like Clinton instead of downtown Pittsburgh. Every RVezy host provides a hands-on orientation at pickup, walking you through driving, leveling, hookups, the generator, and tank dumping. If you'd rather skip city driving altogether, choose a host who delivers directly to Raccoon Creek State Park (12 miles away) so your first miles behind the wheel are on quiet country roads. Pro tip: pick a Class C or travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip. They drive like a large van and fit comfortably in standard state park sites.
penndot.pa.gov/TravelInPA/Safety/Pages/default.aspxWhat happens if the RV breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath, you're covered. Every RV rental in Clinton, PA booked through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the renter protection plan. Whether it's a flat tire on PA-30 heading toward Ohio, a dead battery at Moraine State Park, or a tow needed from the Pennsylvania Turnpike, one phone call dispatches help. Your host is also a message away through the RVezy app, and RVezy support is on standby before, during, and after every trip.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Clinton, PA RV rental to other states or Canada?
Yes, an RV road trip from Clinton, PA opens up a huge region. Most hosts happily allow travel throughout the lower 48, which means you can reach West Virginia in under an hour, Ohio in 30 minutes, Niagara Falls in about 4 hours, and Washington D.C. in roughly 4.5 hours. Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed depending on the host's insurance, so message them before booking to confirm and to get the proper paperwork. One firm rule across the platform: travel into Mexico is not permitted because insurance coverage doesn't extend there. Popular routes from Clinton include the Laurel Highlands loop, the Lake Erie shoreline, and the full Pennsylvania Wilds circuit.
cbp.gov/travel/us-citizens/know-before-you-goWhat kind of fuel economy and gas costs should I budget for?
Plan smart and your fuel budget stays predictable. Class C motorhomes in Clinton, PA average 8 to 12 miles per gallon on gasoline, Class A motorhomes get 6 to 10 mpg, and campervans (Class B) often deliver 16 to 20 mpg. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but reduce your tow vehicle's economy by 25 to 40 percent. Pennsylvania gas prices typically run slightly above the national average due to state fuel taxes. There are several stations within 2 miles of Clinton along US-22 and PA-30, plus Costco fuel in Robinson Township for members. Pro tip: top off before crossing into West Virginia or Ohio where prices are often a bit lower.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground around Clinton, PA?
For peak summer weekends and any holiday (Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day), book Pennsylvania state park campgrounds 3 to 6 months ahead. Raccoon Creek State Park, the closest major campground to Clinton, opens reservations 11 months in advance through the Pennsylvania DCNR reservation system (888-PA-PARKS or visitpaparks.com). Private campgrounds like Bear Run and Mountain Top often have more midweek availability and accept shorter notice. For shoulder-season trips in April, May, late September, and October, two to four weeks ahead is usually plenty. Insider tip: cancellations happen often, so if your dates are sold out, set a notification or call the park office directly the week before.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/state-parks/reservations.htmlWhat are the driving conditions like around Clinton, PA?
Driving an RV in and around Clinton, PA is refreshingly manageable. Clinton sits in Findlay Township just off US-22 and PA-30, with wide, gently rolling roads built to handle the heavy airport traffic from Pittsburgh International. Stick to I-376, US-22, US-30, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike for the smoothest RV driving. Avoid the narrow Liberty Tunnel, Squirrel Hill Tunnel during rush hour, and downtown Pittsburgh's tight bridges if you're in anything over 25 feet. Watch for winter conditions from December to March (PennDOT 511 has real-time road updates), and use lower gears on the Appalachian descents east toward Laurel Highlands. The terrain is hilly but not mountainous, so it's a comfortable warm-up for first-timers.
511pa.com/What amenities do local campgrounds offer, and where can I dump tanks or fill water?
You'll be well taken care of. Raccoon Creek State Park (12 miles from Clinton) offers 172 modern sites with 20/30/50-amp electric, flush toilets, hot showers, potable water spigots, and a sanitary dump station. Bear Run Campground and Mountain Top Campground both provide full hookups (water, electric, sewer at the site), pools, and laundry. For dumping on the road, the Flying J on I-376 and several Pilot stations along I-79 offer dump stations for a small fee. Potable water is available at every Pennsylvania state park and at most municipal RV-friendly stops. Pro tip: dump on your way out, not on arrival, so you're not waiting in the morning rush.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/where-to-go/state-parks/find-a-park/raccoon-creek-state-park/stay.htmlWhat's included inside a typical RV rental in Clinton, PA?
Plenty to make you feel at home. A typical motorhome rental in Clinton, PA comes with a queen or king bed, convertible dinette and sofa sleepers, a fully equipped kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, climate control, and seatbelted travel seats. Most listings include a flat-screen TV, and many offer onboard generators for off-grid power and Wi-Fi hotspots (sometimes as an add-on). Campervans are more compact but still include a bed, kitchenette, and often a portable toilet. Linens, towels, and kitchen kits are commonly available, just check the listing's amenities tile or message the host. RVezy listings make all of this transparent before you book.
pa.gov/agencies/dcnr/recreation/state-parks.htmlWhat add-ons and pickup options should I expect?
Hosts in Clinton, PA make customizing your trip easy. Common add-ons include linen and towel packs ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, generator hours, bike racks, camp chairs and tables, portable propane fire pits (handy since many Pennsylvania campgrounds restrict wood fires during dry spells), and Wi-Fi hotspots. Pickup is usually at the host's home address in Clinton, Findlay Township, or nearby Imperial or Moon Township, with most pickups scheduled between 1 and 4 PM and returns between 10 AM and noon. Need an earlier pickup before a Pittsburgh Penguins or Steelers game? Many hosts can accommodate flexible windows for a small fee. You'll see every add-on and its price right on the listing.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Clinton%2C%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and protected. When you book an RV rental in Clinton, PA, RVezy charges your card securely through the platform, so you never hand cash to a host. A refundable security deposit (typically $500 to $1,500 depending on the rig's value) is placed as a hold on your card before pickup and released after the host confirms the RV is returned in good condition. To avoid any deposit issues, take date-stamped photos at pickup and dropoff, return the RV with the same fuel and propane levels, and dump the tanks if your agreement requires it. Security deposits are handled separately from your booking payment, keeping everything transparent.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat are the best road trip destinations from Clinton, PA?
An RV road trip from Clinton, PA puts an incredible mix of destinations within easy reach. Top picks include Ohiopyle State Park and Fallingwater (90 miles southeast, perfect weekend), Presque Isle State Park in Erie (130 miles north, sandy beaches on Lake Erie), Cook Forest State Park (100 miles northeast, old-growth hemlock and dark skies), Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob in West Virginia (175 miles south), and Niagara Falls (210 miles north for a cross-border adventure if your host allows Canada travel). Closer to home, Moraine State Park (45 miles north) and Ohio's Cuyahoga Valley National Park (115 miles west) make excellent two-night escapes. Clinton's location at the intersection of I-376, US-22, and US-30 makes every direction a quick getaway.
