Campgrounds and RV parks near Farrell, PA

Water recreation drives most trips. Shenango River Lake supports boating, fishing, and paddling, with multiple free boat launches around the reservoir. Anglers target bass, walleye, muskellunge, and panfish. Chestnut Run Swim Beach offers unguarded swimming, and the Shenango Water Trail runs along the lake for kayaks and canoes. On land, hikers can walk the short Coonie Trail interpretive path near the recreation area, and the paved Trout Island Trail in Sharpsville is popular for walking and cycling. The Bayview Off-Road Vehicle Area holds acres of ATV and dirt-bike trails, and the Pines Disc Golf Course in the Mahaney Recreation Area draws players from across the region. Adventure Bound Shenango adds a pool, jump pad, and family activities for on-site stays.

The main camping season in the Shenango Valley runs from spring through mid-fall. At the Corps of Engineers Shenango Recreation Area, main sites numbered 1 through 330 typically open May through September, offering the full run of loops during peak summer. After the main season closes, the Old Duck Loop with sites 192 to 225 stays available year-round with electric hookups, and the shower house and dump station remain operational. Summer is peak season. Waterfront and electric sites at the Corps campground book well ahead, and holiday weekends fill fastest. Water levels on the reservoir can fluctuate through summer depending on rainfall and Corps operations, so boaters should check conditions before launching. Private parks such as Hubbards Haven Family Campground and Rocky Springs Campground generally run a spring through fall season. Fall brings hardwood color along the shoreline, and cooler nights with lower occupancy make it a strong shoulder-season window.

The Corps campground is large and family-oriented, with 330 sites, many equipped with electric hookups, plus showers, restrooms, drinking water, and a dump station. Playgrounds and a boat ramp are on site, and the stay limit is 14 days. Interior roads are paved but bumpy in places, and some sites are noticeably unlevel, so bring leveling blocks. Listed site lengths accommodate a wide range of rigs, including big-rig setups. Private resorts in the area lean toward full-hookup RV sites with pull-throughs, cabin rentals, pools, and organized activities. Cell coverage is generally reliable near Hermitage and Sharon and lighter along the lake's north end. Bring insect repellent for summer evenings, and note that Pennsylvania law requires helmets for any ATV rider under 16.
