Campgrounds and RV parks near Glen Osborne, PA

The Ohio River corridor and the state park network give RV travelers a full week of activity without long drives. At Raccoon Creek State Park, the lake is warm enough for swimming from late May through mid-September, while winter visitors can snowshoe, cross-country ski, and ice skate. The park's Wildflower Reserve is the focal point for programming and protects one of the most diverse stands of wildflowers in western Pennsylvania, with trails winding through oak-hickory forest, pine plantations, and meadows. Pittsburgh itself is a short drive for museums, professional sports, the incline railways, and the three rivers. To the south, near the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey, Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village interprets 19,000 years of history, from a prehistoric rock overhang used by early inhabitants to recreated 16th, 18th, and 19th century villages.

The camping season in southwestern Pennsylvania runs primarily from spring through fall. At Raccoon Creek State Park, the E and F loops open in early April and close in mid-October, while the A, B, C, and D loops operate from late May through mid-September. The park's Sioux Rustic Campground is open year-round, though facilities are limited to potable water and non-flush toilets. Private parks in the region often follow a similar spring-to-fall window, though a few sites stay open longer for self-contained RVs. Late spring and early summer bring reliable warmth and green foliage, along with the region's wettest stretch. The warm-season precipitation maximum is associated with thunderstorm activity over spring and summer, when precipitable water peaks and heavy downpours are common. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October. Winter is cold, cloudy, and snowy. Pittsburgh averages 44 inches of snowfall annually, and the city typically has about 32 days a year when the temperature never rises above 32°F. Water systems at most campgrounds are winterized during that window.

Expect hilly, wooded terrain and narrow rural roads at the approach to most parks. The Raccoon Creek campground sits on a plateau above the lake with electric, non-electric, tent-only, and pet-friendly sites divided into multiple loops. Loops A, B, E, and F have paved parking areas, loop D is tent-only, and pets are permitted only in loops C and F. Amenities include an amphitheater, playground, sanitary dump station, trail to the beach, and modern restrooms with warm showers across five central washhouses. The Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey sits among wooded hills south of Pittsburgh, with recreation amenities on site. Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania state parks, so download park maps before arrival.
