Camping near Greenville, Pennsylvania
Greenville sits in Mercer County in northwestern Pennsylvania, roughly midway between Erie and Pittsburgh and a short drive from the Ohio state line. The area's main outdoor draw is Shenango River Lake, which stretches 11 miles up its namesake river and covers over 11,000 acres lined with northern hardwood forest of Black Cherry, Beech, Maple and Hemlock. The reservoir is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for flood control and recreation.
RV renters have a mix of options within a short drive. Private parks including Cozy Oaks RV Resort, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Shenango Valley, Adventure Bound Shenango, Farma Family Campground, and Shangri La By The Lake Campground handle most full-hookup demand. The federally managed Shenango Recreation Area campground has 330 sites available, many of which are equipped with electric hookup, and showers, restrooms, playgrounds and dump stations are provided.
Greenville itself is small and walkable, with the Greenville Railroad Park and access routes to Pymatuning Reservoir a short drive west. The setting suits families looking for lake time without the crowds of larger destinations.
Things to do around Greenville
Water recreation anchors most trips. The shallow lake provides fishing opportunities for bass, walleye, muskellunge and panfish, with unlimited horsepower boating permitted, and six free boat launches provide easy water access. Kayaking, canoeing, swimming, and waterfowl viewing are all common on the reservoir.
On land, the Corps property preserves several historic features. The well-preserved remains of Lock Number 10 are found in Sharpsville, approximately one-half mile downstream of the Shenango Dam, and other historic features include the Kidd's Mill Covered Bridge. Nearby attractions also include the half-mile Coonie Trail interpretive nature trail, the 7.5-mile Shenango Water Trail for paddlers, Chestnut Run Swim Beach, Bayview Off-Road Vehicle Area, and the Pines Disc Golf Course.

The camping season in this part of Pennsylvania runs roughly from mid-spring through mid-fall. May through September brings consistently warm daytime temperatures and full lake activity. July and August are the warmest and busiest weekends, so RV renters targeting those months should book well ahead.
Spring shoulder weeks are quieter but wetter, and water levels on the reservoir stay high. Main campground sites 1-330 typically open May through September, while the Old Duck Loop, campsites 192-225, remains open all year.
Fall brings hardwood color through the shoreline forest, typically peaking in mid-October. Winter is cold and snowy in this corner of Pennsylvania, so RV camping outside the shoulder season is limited to the year-round Corps loop and a few private parks with winterized hookups.
How to book campgrounds near Greenville
Public and private sites use different systems. Reservations for Shenango Recreation Area Campground can be made through Recreation.gov, the official booking platform for this Army Corps of Engineers site. The reservation window typically opens 6 months in advance, and for last-minute trips some sites may be available for same-day booking, even during busy periods like holiday weekends, though selection will be limited.
Private parks in the Greenville area, including Cozy Oaks RV Resort, Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Shenango Valley, Adventure Bound Shenango, Farma Family Campground, and Shangri La By The Lake Campground, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Holiday weekends fill first; midweek stays in June and September are the easiest to secure on short notice.
What to expect on-site
Sites near Shenango River Lake sit in mixed hardwood forest with shaded, level pads at most established campgrounds. At the Corps recreation area, the campground has 330 sites available, many of which are equipped with electric hookup, and showers, restrooms, playgrounds and dump stations are provided. Electric hookup sites cluster in the interior sections of each loop, while waterfront sites along the lake remain without hookups, and there are no water hookups at individual sites. Full water and sewer hookups are more common at the private resorts listed above.
Cell service is generally reliable near town and along the main roads but can drop in wooded shoreline loops. The area offers wildlife viewing with plentiful deer, turkey, osprey and eagles. Standard bear-country food storage is not required here, but raccoons will investigate unsecured coolers.

Confirm your route with the host through the messaging tool before booking so mileage and any state-specific notes are clear. Cross-border travel into Canada may be allowed by some hosts with proper documentation, but travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance coverage does not extend there. Pennsylvania gas prices tend to run slightly above the national average, so check current rates from the U.S. Energy Information Administration when budgeting. For a typical 300-mile weekend loop to Pymatuning and back, expect roughly $80 to $130 in fuel for a Class C at recent price levels. Traffic is light outside of summer holiday weekends at Pymatuning. The main things to watch: lake-effect snow squalls from late November through March (avoid winter trips unless you're experienced), deer at dawn and dusk on rural roads, and a few low railroad bridges in downtown Greenville (stick to designated truck routes if your motorhome is over 12 feet tall). Pittsburgh and Cleveland are nearby but easy to avoid if city driving makes you nervous. Pro tip: take Route 18 south toward Hermitage for a scenic, low-stress drive that bypasses any highway anxiety.

The deposit amount is shown clearly on every listing before you book. As long as the RV comes back in the agreed condition, the deposit is released after your return per RVezy's policy. Pro tip: do a quick photo walkthrough at pickup and dropoff with your host, it's the easiest way to ensure your full deposit comes back fast.

Yes, winter RV rentals are available in Greenville for the adventurous, and they can be magical with snowy Pymatuning shorelines and quiet, empty trails. That said, northwestern Pennsylvania winters are real, expect temperatures from the teens to low 30s Fahrenheit, lake-effect snow off Lake Erie, and most state park campgrounds closed from late October through mid-April. If you want a winter trip, filter for RVs with heated holding tanks, a working furnace, and shore power capability, then book a private park that stays open year-round or a host who offers a stationary driveway rental. Pro tip: winter rentals are perfect for hunting season, ice fishing on Pymatuning, or a cozy holiday basecamp, ask the host about cold-weather prep during booking and you'll be set.
