Camping near Lawrence, Pennsylvania
Lawrence sits in Washington County in southwestern Pennsylvania, roughly a half-hour drive southwest of downtown Pittsburgh along the I-79 corridor. The surrounding countryside is a mix of rolling farmland, wooded ridges, and small creeks, which puts several full-service RV parks and one large state park campground within a short drive.
Closest to town, the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey handles most big-rig traffic with hookups and pull-through sites. Wallace Trailer Sales and Court and Hotel RV West Alexander add smaller, private options closer to the I-70 crossroads, while Firehouse RV Campgrounds sits a bit farther out. For a state-park experience, Raccoon Creek State Park in nearby Beaver County is one of Pennsylvania's largest state parks at 7,572 acres and centers on the 101-acre Raccoon Lake; the primary modern campground has 172 sites, while the Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park area is a rustic, primarily tent and backpacker campground that stays open year-round.
The area works well as a base for exploring Pittsburgh attractions, the Ohio and Monongahela river valleys, and the nearby Panhandle Trail rail-trail without staying in the city itself.
Things to do around Lawrence
Raccoon Creek State Park is the primary outdoor draw. The park has a swimming beach on Raccoon Lake, boat rentals for non-powered and electric-motor craft, and a large trail network including roughly 19 miles of hiking and the multi-day Raccoon Loop Backpacking Trail. The Wildflower Reserve protects more than 700 plant species along about 4.5 miles of trails through oak-hickory forest, pine plantations, meadows, and riparian corridors. Fishing on Raccoon Lake and Traverse Creek turns up trout, bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie.
Off-park options include Pittsburgh museums and pro sports venues about 30 to 40 minutes northeast, the Meadowcroft Rockshelter archaeological site to the west, and shopping and restaurants in the town of Washington. The Panhandle Trail offers flat rail-trail cycling out of the Lawrence area toward West Virginia.

The RV season around Lawrence runs roughly April through October. Private campgrounds such as the KOA typically open in spring, hit peak occupancy on summer weekends and holidays, and wind down in late fall. At Raccoon Creek State Park, the modern campground is split into six loops with staggered seasons: loops E and F operate from early April through mid-October, while loops A, B, C, and D run from late May through mid-September. The Sioux Rustic Campground area is open year-round, so late-season and shoulder-season stays are possible with limited services.
Spring wildflowers along the Wildflower Reserve trails are a signature draw, with the strongest bloom in April and May. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October. Swimming at the lake is generally feasible from late May through mid-September, and winter visitors find cross-country skiing, ice fishing, and ice skating when conditions allow.
Summer thunderstorms are common, and heavy downpours can affect low-lying sites and unpaved access roads, so weather-radio coverage and a rain plan matter.

How to book campgrounds near Lawrence
State-park sites are handled through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation system, operated on ReserveAmerica. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved 11 months in advance to noon of the day of arrival. The booking window opens at noon Eastern Time, which is unusual among state systems. Popular loops and cabins fill fast for summer weekends, so aim to book several months in advance, especially for Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. Reservations can also be made by phone through the toll-free 888-PA-PARKS line, Monday through Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern.
Private parks such as the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey, Firehouse RV Campgrounds, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, and Hotel RV West Alexander are booked directly with each operator or through their listed booking platforms.
What to expect on site
Expect a mix of modern and rustic facilities at Raccoon Creek State Park. The modern campground has 172 sites across six loops, with flush toilets, warm showers at central washhouses, a sanitary dump station, and a playground. Sites accommodate tents and trailers up to 50 feet, with 15, 20, 30, or 50 amp electric service available on many sites; each site has a picnic table and fire ring. Pets are permitted only in loops C and F. The Sioux Rustic Campground is more primitive, with a water pump and pit toilets, and it suits tents and small rigs rather than larger trailers.
Private parks in the area tend to offer full hookups, Wi-Fi, laundry, and pull-through sites suited to larger rigs. Cell service is inconsistent inside the state park, so downloading maps before arrival helps. Terrain is rolling, so leveling blocks are useful.

rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lawrence,%20PennsylvaniaWhat kind of driver's license do I need to rent an RV in Lawrence, PA?
A regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Lawrence. Pennsylvania does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a special endorsement for personal-use motorhomes or travel trailers, including larger Class A rigs. To book on RVezy you must be 25 or older and complete a quick ID verification through the platform, which usually takes only a few minutes. Visiting from outside the US? Bring your home-country license along with an International Driving Permit (IDP) and you are set. Most first-time renters are surprised how straightforward it is to get on the road around southwestern Pennsylvania.

Booking is low-risk because RVezy sets a consistent cancellation policy for every rental, not individual hosts, so you always know what to expect. There is a money-back grace period after you book, and depending on how far out from your trip you cancel, you may be eligible for a partial or full refund. Western Pennsylvania weather can change quickly between seasons, so it is reassuring to know the policy is consistent across every listing. If your plans change, reach out to RVezy support and they will walk you through your options before your Lawrence RV trip begins.

Yes, pet-friendly RV rental Lawrence options are plentiful on RVezy. Use the Pet-Friendly filter when searching and you will find many hosts who welcome dogs (and sometimes cats), often for a small cleaning fee. Once you have picked up your rig, Pennsylvania state parks like Raccoon Creek and Ryerson Station allow leashed pets at designated campsites, and Washington County's Mingo Creek Park has miles of dog-friendly trails a short drive from Lawrence. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet rules and ask about nearby dog parks, vets, and pet-friendly patios in Bridgeville and Canonsburg.
dcnr.pa.gov/StateParks/Pages/PetsInParks.aspxCan the RV be delivered to me in Lawrence, PA?
Yes, RV delivery Lawrence is one of the most popular options on RVezy, and it is a game-changer if you are new to RVing. Many hosts in the Pittsburgh metro will drive the motorhome or travel trailer right to your driveway, a nearby campground like Pittsburgh South/Washington KOA, or even an event venue, then level it, hook up utilities, and walk you through every system. Delivery fees typically range from $2 to $5 per mile, and some hosts offer free local delivery within a set radius. Filter by Delivery on the listing page. It is the easiest way to skip driving a big rig through the hilly roads of southwestern Pennsylvania.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lawrence,%20PennsylvaniaHow does mileage work, and how far can I drive on a Lawrence, PA RV trip?

Some hosts offer RV rental with unlimited mileage, which is great for a big loop. From Lawrence, you can comfortably reach Ohiopyle State Park in about 90 minutes (roughly 75 miles), Erie's Presque Isle in about 2.5 hours (about 135 miles), or Niagara Falls in about 4 hours (about 215 miles). Mountain Pines Campground near Champion (about 90 minutes east) has full hookups and a large pool. For a quieter vibe, try Pine Cove Beach Club & RV Resort along the Monongahela River. pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/When is the best time of year for RV camping in Lawrence, PA?
Late spring through early fall is prime time for RV camping Lawrence, with May, June, September, and early October being the sweet spot. Daytime highs sit comfortably between the mid-60s and low 80s, evenings cool down nicely for campfires, and the fall foliage from mid-October into early November is genuinely spectacular across the Laurel Highlands. July and August bring the warmest weather (highs around the mid-80s) and the most thunderstorms, so an AC-equipped rig is smart. Winters are cold and snowy with January lows around 20F, but several hosts offer winterized rigs if you are chasing a snowy adventure.
weather.gov/pbz/I've never driven an RV before. Will I be okay in Lawrence, PA?
You have got this. First time renting an RV is easier than most people expect, and Lawrence is a great spot for beginners. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, awning, water, and dump systems. If you are nervous about driving, choose a smaller travel trailer or Class B campervan rental Lawrence and stick to interstates like I-79 and I-70 which are wide and well-maintained. Better yet, book delivery so the host parks and levels everything for you. Pro tip: do a quick parking-lot loop in Bridgeville or the South Hills before heading to the highway to build confidence.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I break down during my Lawrence, PA RV trip?
You are covered around the clock. Every motorhome rental Lawrence booking on RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so help is one call away whether you are on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, parked at Ohiopyle, or on a back road in Greene County. Roadside assistance covers things like flat tires, jump starts, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing. Your host is also typically a quick text away for questions about quirks specific to their rig. Pro tip: save the RVezy support number in your phone before pickup, and snap a photo of the RV's VIN and license plate so you have everything ready if you ever need to call in.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Lawrence, PA RV rental across state lines or into Canada?
Yes, interstate travel is welcome on most RVezy rentals, and many guests use Lawrence as a launch point for multi-state road trips. Popular routes include heading south to West Virginia's New River Gorge (about 3.5 hours), west to Ohio's Cuyahoga Valley National Park (about 2 hours), or east to Washington DC (about 4 hours). Cross-border travel into Canada is allowed by some hosts but requires advance approval and updated insurance documentation, so message the host before booking if Niagara-on-the-Lake or Toronto is on your itinerary. Note: travel into Mexico is not permitted on any RVezy rental due to insurance coverage limits.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will fuel cost on my Lawrence, PA RV trip?
Fuel is the biggest variable, but easy to budget for. Gas prices in southwestern Pennsylvania typically hover around $3.30 to $3.80 per gallon, and diesel runs slightly higher. Class C motorhomes average 8 to 10 mpg, Class A rigs around 6 to 8 mpg, and smaller travel trailers pulled by trucks see 10 to 14 mpg. For a 4-day, 400-mile loop from Lawrence to Ohiopyle and back, plan on roughly $130 to $200 in fuel. Pro tip: fill up at Costco in Robinson Township or Sheetz along Route 19 before heading out, both consistently beat highway prices on your RV road trip from Lawrence.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Lawrence, PA?
The earlier the better, especially for summer. Pennsylvania state parks like Raccoon Creek, Ryerson Station, and Ohiopyle open reservations up to 11 months ahead through the official Pennsylvania state parks reservation system, and prime summer weekends often fill within days of opening. Private parks like Pittsburgh South/Washington KOA and Mountain Pines typically need 2 to 3 months for July and August. Shoulder seasons (May, September, October) are far easier, often just a week or two ahead. Pro tip: if you strike out at a state park, check back the week of your trip, cancellations are common and you can often grab a great site last minute.
pennsylvaniastateparks.reserveamerica.com/What are the local driving conditions like around Lawrence, PA?
Driving around Lawrence is more manageable than people expect. The community sits just off I-79 in Washington County, with easy access to I-70, I-376, and the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76). Roads are mostly rolling hills with a few steeper grades heading east toward the Laurel Highlands, so use lower gears on descents. Winter months (December through March) can bring snow and ice, especially on rural routes, so check PennDOT's 511PA road conditions before heading out. Avoid downtown Pittsburgh tunnels (Fort Pitt, Squirrel Hill) during rush hour if you are in a big rig. Pro tip: stick to interstates for the easiest big-RV navigation, and route around the city via I-79 and I-376 when possible.
511pa.com/What amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Lawrence, PA?
You will find a great mix. Private campgrounds like Pittsburgh South/Washington KOA and Pine Cove Beach Club offer full hookups (water, sewer, 30/50-amp electric), Wi-Fi, hot showers, laundry, pools, and camp stores. Pennsylvania state parks like Raccoon Creek typically provide electric sites with modern bathhouses, potable water spigots, and dump stations on-site, though full hookups are limited to select sites. Most campgrounds within 30 miles of Lawrence have at least one dump station and a freshwater fill. Pro tip: arrive with a full freshwater tank and an empty waste tank to maximize flexibility on shorter stays.
koa.com/campgrounds/pittsburgh-south/What's inside the RVs available to rent in Lawrence, PA?
Modern comfort, basically. Most RVs listed in Lawrence sleep between 4 and 8 people and come fully equipped with a queen or king bed, a kitchen (fridge, freezer, stove, microwave), a private bathroom with shower, a dinette, climate control, and seatbelted seating for travel. Class C motorhomes and travel trailers often include a TV, sound system, outdoor speakers, and an awning, while many newer rigs offer Wi-Fi boosters, solar panels, and onboard generators for off-grid stays. Linens, kitchenware, and outdoor chairs are commonly included or available as add-ons. Pro tip: check the listing's amenity list and message your host to confirm specifics like high-chair availability or a backup camera before your Lawrence RV trip.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lawrence,%20PennsylvaniaWhat add-ons and extras can I get with my Lawrence, PA RV rental?
Hosts offer all kinds of useful extras to make your trip easier. Common add-ons for RV rental in Lawrence include bedding and linen packages ($25 to $75), kitchen kits, camping chairs and tables, generators, propane fills, bike racks, fire pits, and even kayaks or paddleboards. Many hosts also offer pre-stocked grocery setups and outdoor gear bundles. Pickup is usually at the host's location in Washington County or the Pittsburgh area, with delivery available for an additional per-mile fee. Mileage policies vary, with 100 to 150 free miles per night being standard. Pro tip: bundle add-ons when booking instead of buying separately, hosts typically discount packages and you will save money compared to buying gear retail.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Lawrence,%20PennsylvaniaHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Lawrence, PA?
Payment is simple and secure. When you book on RVezy, you pay through the platform with a credit or debit card, and a refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment (typically several hundred to a few thousand dollars depending on the rig). The deposit is not charged unless there is damage, excess mileage, or cleaning issues after your trip, and it is released back to your card after a successful return. Never pay a host directly outside the platform: that is how you stay protected by RVezy's terms. Pro tip: do a thorough video walkaround with your host at pickup and dropoff and you will breeze through deposit release with no surprises after your Lawrence RV trip.
