Campgrounds near Meadowlands, Pennsylvania
Meadowlands sits in Washington County in southwestern Pennsylvania, roughly a half-hour drive south of Pittsburgh along the I-79 corridor. The area works well as a base for RV travellers combining city day trips with rural Appalachian foothills, covered-bridge drives, and state-park recreation. Elevation is moderate, terrain is rolling and wooded, and most campgrounds sit off two-lane county roads within a short drive of the interstate.
The closest full-service RV option is the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey, set high up among wooded hills 28 miles south of Pittsburgh and reached from I-79 Exit 33. Hotel RV West Alexander, Ernies Acres Campground, and Firehouse RV Campgrounds fill out the private-campground options in the surrounding townships, offering shorter-hop alternatives for travellers moving along I-70 or heading toward West Virginia.
For a public-land stay, Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park lies west of the city inside the 7,572-acre Raccoon Creek State Park, which features the 101-acre Raccoon Lake, giving RV renters access to swimming, boating, and a large trail network within about a 40-minute drive of Meadowlands.
Things to do near Meadowlands
Washington County pairs well with an RV trip because attractions cluster within a short drive. Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Historic Village in Avella is a National Historic Landmark featuring a massive rock overhang used by people thousands of years ago for shelter, plus guided tours of the archaeological site. On the same grounds, visitors can walk through a recreated 16th-century Eastern Woodland Indian village, an 18th-century trading post, and a 19th-century rural village with a church, one-room schoolhouse, and blacksmith shop, which keeps kids engaged for a full afternoon.
Other nearby stops include the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum and a self-guided tour of the county's covered bridges. Rural highways in the surrounding countryside snake over 23 covered bridges and lead to antique stores and flea markets, and Pittsburgh's museums, stadiums, and riverfront are close enough for a day trip north on I-79.

It is warm enough to swim at the lake from late May through mid-September, while winter visitors can enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating on day trips.

Dan’s camper was perfect for our weekend camping trip. It was clean, organized, and fit our family of 4 with plenty of room. Dan was very helpful at pick up and drop off getting everything hooked up and offloaded.

How to book a campsite
Reservation systems split cleanly between private and public campgrounds. Private parks such as Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey, Hotel RV West Alexander, Ernies Acres Campground, and Firehouse RV Campgrounds take bookings directly through their own websites or by phone, with individual cancellation policies. At the KOA, cancellations must be made by phone before the posted deadlines to receive a refund of the deposit, less an administrative cancellation fee.
For Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park and other Pennsylvania state park sites, booking runs through the state's reservation portal. You can reserve one of 172 campsites and 10 cabins via the Pennsylvania State Parks website, and campsite reservations open 11 months in advance and can be made up until noon on the day of arrival. Reservations can also be made by calling toll-free 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), from 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday to Saturday. Book cabins and holiday weekends several months out.
What to expect on arrival
Private parks near Meadowlands lean toward full-hookup pull-throughs suitable for larger rental rigs. The KOA is a full service RV, tent and cabin facility complete with pool, laundry and propane hookups, and maximum pull-through length runs to 88 feet, which accommodates most Class A rentals with a toad. Some sites are uneven and the roads leading to the campground are narrow and steep, so bring extra levelling blocks.
At Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park, facilities are more traditional. The 172 modern tent and trailer campsites have access to flush facilities, warm showers, and the option of electricity, and each site has a picnic table and fire ring; pets are permitted in C and F campsite loops. Potable water and non-flush toilets are available at the Sioux Rustic area. Cell service can be spotty in and around many Pennsylvania state parks, so download maps before arrival.
