Campgrounds and RV parks near Midway, PA

Raccoon Creek State Park anchors the outdoor options. The park spans 7,572 acres and features Raccoon Lake for swimming, non-powered boating, and fishing, plus a Wildflower Reserve with 4.5 miles of trails through oak-hickory forest, meadows, and riparian habitat. The park also has more than 19 miles of hiking trails, including a backpacking loop, and fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October. Across the state line, Tomlinson Run State Park offers hiking, a swimming pool with a waterslide, disc golf, mini-golf, and boat rentals on a 30-acre lake, with forested hills and sandstone cliffs cut by the stream that gives the park its name. Off-park attractions include the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum, the Meadowcroft Rockshelter and Museum of Rural Life in Avella, the historic Bradford House in Washington, and a countryside route through Washington County's covered bridges.

The main RV season runs from spring through fall. At Raccoon Creek State Park, the modern campground's E and F loops are open from early April through mid-October, while the A, B, C, and D loops run only from late May through mid-September. The separate Sioux Rustic Campground stays open year-round with vault toilets and potable water, though most visitors come between April and October. Tomlinson Run State Park's campground is open spring through fall, weather permitting, with camper cabins available April through October. Summer weekends, Memorial Day weekend, and Labor Day weekend draw heavy crowds from the Pittsburgh area, so popular sites can fill quickly. The accessible beach at Raccoon Lake is open from late May through mid-September under an open-swim policy. Autumn brings cool nights and reliable foliage color. Winter is cold and often snowy: Pittsburgh averages roughly 32 days a year when the temperature never rises above freezing, so anyone camping in the shoulder months should plan for freeze protection and reduced services.

Expect a mix of modern and rustic facilities. Raccoon Creek State Park offers 172 modern tent and trailer campsites across six loops, with access to flush toilets, warm showers, five central washhouses, and a sanitary dump station. Electric service is available at many sites at 15, 20, 30, or 50 amp. Sites are generally spacious and wooded, though some pads are unlevel and campers report occasional aircraft noise from nearby Pittsburgh International Airport. Tomlinson Run has 48 traditional campsites plus five camper cabins, a dump station, a convenience store, and two bathhouses with showers and laundry. Sites are mostly gravel and 30-amp with a few 50-amp additions; larger fifth wheels can feel tight in some loops. Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey caters specifically to RVs with long pull-thru sites, full hookups, and a seasonal pool. Cell service can be spotty inside the state parks, so downloading maps in advance is a good idea.
