Campgrounds and RV parks near New Castle Northwest, PA

New Castle Northwest sits in Lawrence County in western Pennsylvania, close to the Slippery Rock Creek watershed and the crossroads of Interstates 79 and 80. RV renters use the area as a base for two heavily visited state parks: McConnells Mill State Park, which encompasses 2,546 acres of the Slippery Rock Creek Gorge, and Moraine State Park, which surrounds the 3,225-acre Lake Arthur about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. Neither state park operates a public RV campground. McConnells Mill is a day-use park with no camping, and overnight options at Moraine are limited to eleven modern cabins plus two organized group tenting areas. RV travelers stay at private campgrounds in the surrounding countryside instead. The closest private options include Valley View Campground, Rose Point Park Cabins and Camping, Rocky Springs Campground, Breakneck Campground, and Coopers Lake Campground near Slippery Rock. These properties supply the electric, water, and dump-station infrastructure that the state parks do not, while keeping renters within a short drive of the gorge, the lake, and the North Country National Scenic Trail.

Pennsylvania state park cabins and group tent sites at Moraine are reserved through the Pennsylvania State Parks system on ReserveAmerica or by phone at 888-PA-PARKS. Reservations can be made up to 11 months in advance and must be made at least three days before arrival. Individual RV and tent camping is not offered inside Moraine or McConnells Mill, so RV renters should book private campgrounds directly. Valley View Campground, Rose Point Park Cabins and Camping, Rocky Springs Campground, Breakneck Campground, and Coopers Lake Campground each run their own reservation systems by phone or website. Coopers Lake fills heavily around scheduled events, especially the Pennsic War in late July and early August, so confirm dates before planning a stay. For summer weekends, aim to reserve six to eight weeks out at any private park in the area.
