Campgrounds near Rennerdale
Rennerdale is an unincorporated community in Collier Township, Allegheny County, about 9 miles southwest of Pittsburgh. That position puts RV travelers within easy reach of both the Parkway West corridor and the rural ridges of Washington and Beaver counties, so campground options range from full-hookup commercial parks to a large state park with modern loops.
The closest full-service option is Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey, a KOA set among wooded hills south of Pittsburgh that functions as a pull-through stopover for travelers on I-79 and I-70. West of Rennerdale, Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park sits inside a 7,572-acre park centered on 101-acre Raccoon Lake, with multiple camping loops. Hotel RV Beaver, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, and Indian Brave Campgrounds round out the nearby private options for RV renters looking to stay outside the metro area.
Most visitors base out of the area to reach downtown Pittsburgh attractions, the Panhandle and Montour rail trails, and the wooded hills west of the city.
Things to do near Rennerdale
The Panhandle Trail runs immediately south of Rennerdale and is a hike and bike rail trail on the bed of the old Panhandle railroad, running about 29 miles from Walker's Mills in Collier Township to just outside Weirton, West Virginia. It connects with the Montour Trail near McDonald, making it easy to string together long, mostly flat rides straight from camp.
At Raccoon Creek State Park, families get lake swimming, boating, and the Wildflower Reserve, which protects more than 700 plant species along 4.5 miles of trails. Downtown Pittsburgh is roughly 15 to 20 minutes away for museums, PNC Park, and the incline railways. The Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey sits close to The Meadows Racetrack and Casino, a short drive from the campground.

At Raccoon Creek State Park, the modern campground operates on a split schedule: loops E and F open in early April and close in mid-October, while loops A, B, C, and D run from late May through mid-September. The Sioux Rustic Campground on the western side of the park is open year-round, so shoulder-season and winter RV trips are possible when the modern loops are closed. Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends draw heavy crowds from the Pittsburgh area, and holiday weekends across summer fill fastest.
Spring brings the park's signature wildflower bloom, which peaks in late April, with a second bloom in late August. Swimming at Raccoon Lake is generally comfortable from late May through mid-September, and fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October. Winter visitors trade camping for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating on park trails.
At the Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey, seasonal amenities such as the pool follow a summer schedule from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

Dan’s camper was perfect for our weekend camping trip. It was clean, organized, and fit our family of 4 with plenty of room. Dan was very helpful at pick up and drop off getting everything hooked up and offloaded.

How to book campgrounds near Rennerdale
Pennsylvania state park sites, including those at Sioux - Raccoon Creek State Park, book through the state's official reservation system operated on ReserveAmerica. Most campsites in Pennsylvania state parks can be reserved up to 11 months in advance, with new inventory releasing at noon Eastern. Reservations can also be made by phone at 888-PA-PARKS (888-727-2757), Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pet-friendly loops (C and F) and cabins sell out first, so booking several months ahead is prudent for summer weekends.
Private options including Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey, Hotel RV Beaver, Wallace Trailer Sales and Court, and Indian Brave Campgrounds book directly with each operator. KOA reservations go through the KOA website or the local office, and holiday weekends typically require deposits. Campers without a reservation arriving after noon at Raccoon Creek should check the contact station or campground entrance for a list of open sites.
What to expect on the ground
Terrain around Rennerdale is hilly. The area sits on the Allegheny Plateau, and RV renters should plan for narrow, winding approach roads at several parks. The Washington / Pittsburgh SW KOA Journey is set high among wooded hills, and reviewers consistently note steep access roads and audible highway noise from I-79.
Raccoon Creek's modern loops offer paved parking on loops A, B, E, and F, warm showers in five central washhouses, and a sanitary dump station. Loop D is tent-only, and pets are permitted only in loops C and F. Sites accommodate rigs up to 50 feet, with 15, 20, 30, or 50 amp electric depending on the site. The Sioux Rustic Campground has pit toilets and a hand pump for water, but no showers, electric, or RV hookups. Cell service can be spotty in and around many Pennsylvania state parks, so download maps before arrival.
