Campgrounds and RV parks near Sewickley Heights, PA

Raccoon Creek State Park is the main draw for outdoor time. Raccoon Lake supports swimming at a 500-foot public beach open late May to mid-September, non-powered boating, and fishing for species such as bass, bluegill, and trout. Hikers can pair the park's 44-plus miles of trails with the separate Wildflower Reserve, where more than 700 plant species can be found along 4.5 miles of trails through oak-hickory forest, pine plantations, meadows, and riparian areas. Closer to town, RV travellers use Sewickley Heights as a launch point for Pittsburgh museums, the North Shore stadiums, and Ohio River day trips. Beaver County adds small-town main streets, riverfront parks, and easy access to Raccoon Creek via State Route 18. Families typically split time between lake days, short hikes, and one or two city excursions per trip.

The prime RV window runs from mid-spring through mid-fall. The Raccoon Creek State Park campground opens in early April and closes in mid-October, which sets the practical season for most public camping in the area. Loops E and F operate the full April to October window, while loops A, B, C, and D run through the shorter late-May to mid-September stretch. Private parks such as Hotel RV Beaver and Indian Brave Campgrounds generally follow a similar warm-weather calendar, with shoulder-season availability varying by operator. Spring brings the wildflower bloom and cool nights, with the season peaking in late April and late August. Summer is the busiest stretch: reservations are recommended, especially for Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends when the park draws heavy crowds from the Pittsburgh area. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October. Winter camping is limited. Sioux Rustic Campground stays open year-round, but the modern loops close and most private parks shut down for the season.

Sites in the area lean wooded and rolling rather than open and flat. At Raccoon Creek, the modern campground has 172 sites divided into loops A through F, with paved parking on loops A, B, E, and F, tent-only camping on loop D, and pets permitted only in loops C and F. Amenities include an amphitheater, playground, sanitary dump station, a trail to the beach, and modern restrooms with warm showers. Rigs up to about 50 feet can be accommodated. Cell service is unpredictable in and around many Pennsylvania State Parks, so download the park map before the drive in from Sewickley Heights. Expect mixed hookup availability across private parks, seasonal insects near the lake, and cool overnight temperatures in spring and fall. Bringing firewood into Pennsylvania from out of state is prohibited, so plan to buy locally.
