The park is one of the few sanctioned rock climbing and rappelling sites in western Pennsylvania. Slippery Rock's downtown, home to Slippery Rock University, adds restaurants and groceries within a short drive of most campgrounds.

The main RV camping season in western Pennsylvania runs from mid-spring through late fall. Private parks including Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Kozy Rest, the nearby Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort, Bear Run Campground, and Rose Point Park Cabins and Camping typically open in spring and close after the final fall weekends, with the busiest booking windows falling on Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day weekends. Summer is warm and humid, with June the wettest month of the year and thunderstorms common in the afternoon. July and August bring the warmest water at Lake Arthur and the most consistent conditions for hiking the gorge trails. Fall brings cool nights, clear days, and peak foliage typically in mid-October, when campground demand rises for one final weekend surge. Winter is cold and snowy, and most private campgrounds close entirely. Moraine and McConnells Mill state parks remain open for day use, but overnight RV camping in the immediate area is generally not available in the coldest months.

Roads into the Slippery Rock area are paved and RV-friendly, with Interstate 79 and U.S. Route 422 providing the main access. Sites vary from open, grassy pull-throughs to shaded, wooded back-ins. Full hookups are available at the Jellystone locations and at Coopers Lake Campground, while Bear Run Campground and Rose Point Park Cabins and Camping offer a mix of hookup levels and rustic tent options.
