Campgrounds and RV parks near Slippery Rock University, PA

Slippery Rock University sits in Butler County, western Pennsylvania, about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh near the intersection of I-79 and US 422. The surrounding area is defined by the glaciated plateau of the Slippery Rock Creek watershed, with two major public lands within a short drive: McConnells Mill State Park in Lawrence County, which encompasses 2,546 acres of the Slippery Rock Creek Gorge, a National Natural Landmark, and Moraine State Park, spanning 16,725 acres and centered on 3,225-acre Lake Arthur. Neither state park offers traditional RV camping. Camping is prohibited inside Moraine State Park, and McConnells Mill is a day-use park. RV travelers instead book at private resorts within a short drive of both parks. The closest options include Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort: Kozy Rest, a second Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort, Coopers Lake Campground, Bear Run Campground, and Rose Point Park Cabins and Camping. Most sit along or near Slippery Rock Creek, giving quick access to hiking, paddling on Lake Arthur, and the covered bridge and gristmill at McConnells Mill.

Private resorts in this area, including both Yogi Bear's Jellystone Park Camp-Resort locations, Coopers Lake Campground, Bear Run Campground, and Rose Point Park Cabins and Camping, take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Summer weekends, holiday weekends, and major event dates fill months out, so RV travelers should book as early as possible. For the state park cabins at Moraine, reservations go through the Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests reservation system. Overnight stays can be booked up to 11 months in advance, and reservations must be made a minimum of three days ahead of arrival. Reservations can also be made by calling 888-PA-PARKS, Monday through Saturday, 7:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
