Campgrounds and RV parks near Slovan, PA

At Raccoon Creek, spring and summer wildflower blooms are the star attraction, with the season peaking in late April and late August. Fall foliage typically peaks in mid-October, and it is warm enough to swim at the lake from late May through mid-September, while winter visitors can enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice skating. The park offers extensive recreation including swimming, boating, and fishing on the lake, plus over 19 miles of hiking trails, and the Wildflower Reserve protects 700-plus plant species across 4.5 miles of trails. At Tomlinson Run, the swimming pool complex includes a waterslide, a bathhouse, and a snack bar, and the park also has disc golf and miniature golf courses. From the KOA, rural highways lead to antique stores, flea markets, and the covered bridges that dot Washington County.

Camping seasons in this corner of Pennsylvania and West Virginia split sharply between developed and rustic facilities. At Raccoon Creek, the 172 modern tent and trailer campsites are open from the second Friday in April to mid-October, rustic sites at Sioux are available from mid-October to mid-April, and access is not guaranteed during severe winter storms. Tomlinson Run runs a shorter calendar: the campground is open spring through fall, weather permitting, with a contact station, convenience store, dump station and two bathhouses with showers and laundry facilities, and five camper cabins are available to rent between April and October. Demand tracks the school calendar. Campsites can book up fast, especially during peak season from April to October or on holiday weekends, so booking at least three months in advance is wise, especially for cabins. Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends draw heavy crowds from the Pittsburgh area. The KOA pool typically runs from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, mirroring the Tomlinson Run pool schedule.

Expect wooded, hilly terrain and a mix of hookup levels. At Raccoon Creek, the wooded campground offers a selection of secluded or adjoining sites, a playground, five central washhouses with hot showers and a sanitary dump station, with each site having a picnic table and fire ring. Campsites B, 1, 2 and 3 are ADA accessible. The Sioux loop is more primitive: facilities are basic, with non-flush toilets and a hand pump for water, and campers should not expect electric hookups or modern restrooms with showers. At Tomlinson Run, the campground has 48 traditional campsites, 39 of which feature electric hookups, and the maximum RV length is 50 feet. The KOA is built on hills typical of the southwestern Pennsylvania landscape, with individual campsites that are level gravel with small surrounding grassy areas.
