Campgrounds and RV parks near West Middlesex, PA

West Middlesex sits in Mercer County in western Pennsylvania, minutes from the Ohio border and the Shenango Valley. The town works as a practical base for RV travelers because it is close to I-80, Sharon, Hermitage, and Youngstown, Ohio, and it puts campers within a short drive of Shenango River Lake. The Shenango Recreation Area campground is located approximately 7 miles from Sharon, Pennsylvania and 21 miles from Youngstown, Ohio. Most overnight options in the immediate area fall into two categories. The public campground at Shenango River Lake is run by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and sits on a reservoir that stretches 11 miles up its namesake river, covering over 11,000 acres, while private parks such as Hubbards Haven Family Campground, Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground, Rocky Springs Campground, Adventure Bound Shenango, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Shenango Valley cover the full-hookup and family-resort end of the market. Shenango River Lake is not a designated state park; the area is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and is located in western Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio, incorporating a large reservoir for flood control, recreation, and wildlife management. That mix of public and private inventory gives RV travelers flexibility on hookups, price point, and how remote a site feels.

Public sites at Shenango River Lake are booked online. Reservations for Shenango Recreation Area Campground can be made through Recreation.gov, the official booking platform for this Army Corps of Engineers site, and while reservations aren't strictly required, they're highly recommended, especially for popular lakeside sites or those with electric hookups. Campground reservations typically open several months in advance, so for peak season visits, book as early as possible. Change rules apply. A service fee is charged if a reservation is changed or cancelled, and no-shows may be assessed an additional service fee and forfeit use fees. Private parks such as Hubbards Haven Family Campground, Chestnut Ridge Park and Campground, Rocky Springs Campground, Adventure Bound Shenango, and Adventure Bound Camping Resorts - Shenango Valley take reservations directly through their own websites or by phone. Full-hookup and pull-through sites at private parks tend to sell out first for holiday weekends.
