Campgrounds near Belvedere, South Carolina
Belvedere sits in Aiken County just across the Savannah River from Augusta, Georgia, putting RV travelers within easy reach of both South Carolina state parks and Army Corps of Engineers lakeside campgrounds. The area combines suburban convenience with quick access to the rural Sandhills, horse country around Aiken, and the recreation waters of J. Strom Thurmond Lake.
Close-in private options include Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park and Heritage RV Park, both suited to overnight or extended stays. Plantation Oaks RV Park and Campertown RV Park serve travelers looking for a quieter base near North Augusta, and Aiken RV Park sits off Interstate 20, a short drive from historic downtown Aiken.
For state-park camping, Aiken State Park is located in Windsor about 20 minutes from downtown Aiken and about 25 miles east of Belvedere along the South Fork of the Edisto River, with a 25-site campground located next to the South Fork of the Edisto River, plus primitive group camping. Hickory Knob State Resort Park in McCormick and the Corps of Engineers campgrounds at J. Strom Thurmond Lake add lakeside options within roughly an hour's drive.
Things to do near Belvedere
Water recreation anchors most trips. Set along the South Edisto River, Aiken State Park is a haven for fishing, canoeing and kayaking, with a scenic 1.7-mile canoe and kayak trail winding down the south fork of the Edisto River. Kayak and canoe rentals are available for the Canoe Trail, and all boat rentals must be done at least 24 hours in advance. J. Strom Thurmond Lake, north of Belvedere, offers boating, swimming, and bass fishing from Corps of Engineers day-use areas.
On land, the 3-mile Jungle Nature Trail is a level, easy-to-follow dirt turf loop through tropical-looking wetlands and mixed pine and hardwood forest at Aiken State Park, and Hitchcock Woods in Aiken is a large urban forest popular for walking and horseback riding. The Aiken Steeplechase and polo matches draw spectators in spring and fall.
Families often pair campground time with the Riverwalk in Augusta, the Aiken County Historical Museum, and downtown Aiken shopping and dining.

December - February
55° / 37°F 96 mmMild; private RV parks stay open year-round
Spring and fall are the strongest windows. From March through May, average high temperatures range from about 66 to 82 Fahrenheit, with low temperatures fluctuating from about 48 to 63 Fahrenheit, and dogwoods and azaleas peak in April. Late September through November brings cooler evenings and drier conditions, with fall tending to be the driest season along the Savannah River corridor. These shoulder seasons fill fastest on weekends, so reserve well ahead.
Summer is hot and humid. June to August temperatures peak in the low 90s Fahrenheit, with low averages not falling below the low 70s, and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Campgrounds with shade, water hookups, and pool access are the most comfortable choices, and lake campgrounds at Thurmond stay busy through the season with peak demand around Fourth of July and Labor Day.
Winter is mild by regional standards, and private RV parks near Belvedere generally stay open year-round. The Masters Tournament in April spikes RV demand across the Augusta metro and tightens sites well beyond tournament week; travelers not attending often avoid that stretch.
How to book campgrounds near Belvedere
South Carolina state parks, including Aiken State Park and Hickory Knob, take reservations up to 13 months in advance, with a typical two-night minimum for campsites. Reservations requested less than one day in advance of check-in must be made directly through the park. Check-in time for camping is 2:00 p.m. and check-out time is 12:00 p.m.
Army Corps of Engineers campgrounds on J. Strom Thurmond Lake book through Recreation.gov. The booking window is 6 months in advance, rolling daily, with release at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. Private parks near Belvedere, including Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park, Heritage RV Park, Plantation Oaks RV Park, Campertown RV Park, and Aiken RV Park, take direct bookings through their operator websites and often offer weekly and monthly rates.
For spring, fall, and Masters week, book several months out. Cancellation alerts can help when weekend sites appear full.
What to expect on arrival
Private parks in and around Belvedere are set up for full-service stays, with 30 and 50 amp hookups, water, sewer, laundry, and Wi-Fi at most locations. Expect level pads and easy highway access from Interstate 20 and US-1.
At Aiken State Park, each site consists of packed sand and has individual water and 30 and 50 amp electrical hookups, campsites 20 through 25 also include sewer hookup, some sites accommodate RVs up to 35 feet, and the campground is convenient to restrooms with hot showers. Campground amenities include water, flush toilets, hot showers and a dump station, and Wi-Fi is not available. Cell service varies significantly throughout the region, with Aiken State Park having virtually no coverage across major carriers. The narrow, winding dirt road requires careful navigation, particularly for larger rigs.
Summer visitors should plan for heat, biting insects near water, and quick-moving thunderstorms.

discoversouthcarolina.com/articles/plan-your-south-carolina-camping-tripDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Belvedere, South Carolina?
Good news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Belvedere for almost every motorhome and trailer on RVezy. South Carolina only requires a Class E or Class F non-commercial license for RVs with a Gross Vehicle Weight over 26,000 pounds, and the vast majority of Class B campervans, Class C motorhomes, and travel trailers on the platform fall well under that limit. On RVezy, approved drivers are generally 25 or older with a valid license, and your ID is verified through the platform during booking. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit along with your home license and you are set for your Belvedere RV trip.

At checkout you choose the protection level that fits your comfort zone, the decision is yours, not the host's. Paired with around-the-clock roadside support, your motorhome rental in Belvedere feels a lot more like a vacation and less like a risk.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy (not individual hosts), and every reservation includes a grace-period window where you can cancel for a full refund shortly after booking. That means you can lock in your dates for a Lake Thurmond getaway or a Masters Week trip with confidence, even if your plans are still firming up. If a host ever cancels on you, RVezy refunds your booking or provides credits so you are not left scrambling. You can review your specific cancellation options in your RVezy account or reach out to support 24/7 for help.

Absolutely, a pet-friendly RV rental in Belvedere is easy to find: just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter on RVezy and you will see motorhomes and travel trailers from local hosts who welcome dogs. Once you are on the road, the area is loaded with dog-friendly spots: Hickory Knob State Resort Park allows leashed pets in the campground (just not in most lodge rooms or cabins), and the Augusta Riverwalk just across the Savannah River is a favorite for an evening stroll. Pro tip: message the host before booking to confirm pet fees and any breed or size limits so check-in is smooth.
southcarolinaparks.com/hickory-knobCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Belvedere?
Yes, RV delivery in Belvedere is offered by many local hosts, and it is one of the smartest ways to start your first trip stress-free. Filter for Delivery on RVezy and a host will tow the trailer or drive the motorhome straight to your site at Hickory Knob State Resort Park, Modoc Campground on Lake Thurmond, or even a private driveway in North Augusta. They will level it, hook up power and water, and walk you through every system so you are not Googling how to dump a black tank at midnight. Delivery fees usually depend on distance, and many hosts offer free delivery within a 15 to 25 mile radius of Belvedere.
sas.usace.army.mil/About/Divisions-and-Offices/Operations-Division/J-Strom-Thurmond-Dam-and-Lake/Recreation/How far can I drive on a typical Belvedere RV rental?

Most hosts include 100 to 150 free miles per night, and many offer add-on mileage packages or even RV rental with unlimited mileage if you message them before booking. From Belvedere you can reach Hickory Knob State Resort Park in about 50 miles, Congaree National Park near Columbia in around 75 miles, Charleston's beaches in roughly 170 miles, and the Great Smoky Mountains in about 250 miles. nps.gov/cong/index.htmWhere are the best campgrounds near Belvedere, SC for RV camping?
You have excellent options for RV camping in Belvedere within an easy drive. Hickory Knob State Resort Park in McCormick (about 50 miles north) has 44 sites with water and 30-amp electric, a golf course, and Strom Thurmond Lake access. Modoc Campground and Petersburg Campground, both Army Corps of Engineers parks on J. Strom Thurmond Lake, offer waterfront sites with electric and water hookups about 30 miles away. Book 3 to 6 months ahead for spring and fall weekends.
southcarolinaparks.com/aikenWhen is the best time to visit Belvedere for an RV trip?
Spring (March through May) and fall (late September through November) are the sweet spots for a Belvedere RV trip, with daytime highs of 65 to 80°F, low humidity, and dogwoods or fall color along the Savannah River. Summers are hot and muggy with highs near 91°F and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, so plan for shaded sites and full-hookup electric to keep the air conditioning humming. Winters are mild, typically 39 to 60°F, which makes December through February a quiet, low-cost season for snowbirds and locals. Insider tip: April brings the Masters Tournament to nearby Augusta, GA, so campgrounds within 30 miles book solid a year in advance.
weather.gov/cae/I have never rented an RV before. Will I be okay?
You will do great, first time renting an RV in Belvedere is easier than most people expect. Every RVezy host gives you a full walkthrough at pickup (or at your campsite if you choose delivery), covering the generator, slide-outs, water hookups, propane, and waste tanks. You can also message the host any question before booking, from how the awning works to whether the rig fits at Petersburg Campground. Pick a Class C motorhome or a small travel trailer for your first trip, both are forgiving to drive on local roads like I-20 and US-25. And 24/7 roadside assistance is built into every booking, so help is one phone call away.
scdot.org/travel/travel-driving-tips.aspxWhat if something breaks down during my trip?
Take a breath, you are covered. Every RV rental in Belvedere through RVezy includes 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the protection plan, so a flat tire on I-20, a dead battery at Lake Thurmond, or a tow out of a soft site at Hickory Knob is handled with one phone call. For mechanical or appliance issues inside the RV (think fridge or AC), reach out to your host first since they know their rig best and can usually troubleshoot quickly by phone. If you cannot reach the host, RVezy's support team steps in. Pro tip: save both numbers in your phone before you pull out of the driveway.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailCan I take my Belvedere RV rental on a road trip out of state?
Yes, interstate road trips from Belvedere are a great use of an RV rental, and most hosts welcome cross-state travel inside the U.S. Belvedere sits right on the Georgia line, so a quick hop across the Savannah River puts you in Augusta in 10 minutes, and you can reach Savannah, GA in about 2.5 hours, Asheville, NC in about 3.5 hours, or the Outer Banks in about 7 hours. Travel into Mexico is not allowed on RVezy rentals due to insurance coverage limits. If you are planning a long-haul or one-way RV road trip from Belvedere, message the host directly before booking to confirm the route and any mileage adjustments.
scdot.org/travel/travel-home.aspxWhat kind of fuel mileage should I expect and how do I budget for gas?
Fuel is the biggest variable in your Belvedere RV trip budget, so plan smart. Class B campervans average 18 to 22 MPG, Class C motorhomes get 8 to 12 MPG, and Class A motorhomes typically run 6 to 10 MPG. Travel trailers depend on your tow vehicle but expect a 20 to 30 percent drop from its normal MPG. South Carolina gas prices tend to run below the national average, often 20 to 40 cents cheaper per gallon than neighboring states. For a 3-night trip to Hickory Knob and back (about 100 miles round trip), budget roughly $40 to $80 in fuel for a Class C. Fill up in SC before crossing into Georgia for the best price.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Belvedere?
For the best campgrounds near Belvedere, plan to book early, especially South Carolina state parks like Hickory Knob and Aiken State Park, which open reservations 13 months ahead through the official ReserveAmerica-powered SC State Parks system. Army Corps of Engineers sites at Lake Thurmond (Modoc, Petersburg, Hawe Creek) book through Recreation.gov up to 6 months in advance. Spring and fall weekends, plus Masters week in April, fill up fastest. Pro tip: if your dates are sold out, set a cancellation alert, weekday spots open up regularly, and shoulder seasons (March and late October) usually have walk-up availability at smaller parks like Hamilton Branch State Recreation Area.
southcarolinaparks.com/reservationsWhat are local driving conditions like around Belvedere?
Driving an RV around Belvedere is refreshingly easy compared to big metro areas. The main routes (I-20, US-1, US-25, and SC-230) are wide, well-maintained, and have plenty of pull-off space for fuel stops. Watch for two things: summer afternoon thunderstorms that can dump heavy rain in minutes (pull over and wait it out), and the occasional low railroad bridge in downtown Augusta, GA just across the river, so stick to truck-friendly routes if you are over 12 feet tall. Traffic spikes during Masters Week in early April, when I-20 east of Belvedere slows to a crawl. Outside that week, the rural roads to Lake Thurmond and McCormick are a relaxing drive.
511sc.org/What hookups and amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Belvedere?
Most campgrounds near Belvedere offer the essentials for a comfortable stay. Expect 30 or 50-amp electric, water hookups, and a central dump station at state parks like Hickory Knob and Aiken State Park, while private parks such as Pine Acres in North Augusta typically offer full hookups (sewer at the site). Army Corps parks at Lake Thurmond have electric and water but no sewer, so plan a dump-station stop on your way out. Drinking water fill stations are available at all of these. Pro tip: cell service can dip at lakeside sites in McCormick County, so download offline maps and any shows you want to watch before you arrive.
sas.usace.army.mil/About/Divisions-and-Offices/Operations-Division/J-Strom-Thurmond-Dam-and-Lake/Recreation/Campgrounds/What features will my Belvedere RV rental actually come with?
Belvedere RV rentals on RVezy come ready for vacation. Most listings include a full kitchen (fridge, stove, microwave, sink), a bathroom with shower and toilet, sleeping for 4 to 8 people with seatbelted travel seats, climate control, and a TV. Class C motorhomes and larger travel trailers often add a generator for off-grid power, awnings for shade against the Carolina sun, and outdoor speakers. Wi-Fi hotspots are available on some listings as an add-on, but service can be spotty at Lake Thurmond, so do not count on streaming. Every listing page on RVezy spells out exactly what is included, so you know before you book.
southcarolinaparks.com/things-to-do/campingWhat add-ons can I get with my Belvedere RV rental?
Hosts in the Belvedere area offer add-ons that make your trip easier. Common options include linen and kitchen kits ($30 to $75), camp chairs and outdoor tables ($15 to $30), generators or extra propane for boondocking, bike racks, and Wi-Fi hotspots. Many hosts also offer paid dump and refill service so you can return the RV without a stop at the dump station. Pickup is usually at the host's driveway, but delivery to Hickory Knob, Modoc, or Aiken State Park is widely available. Mileage policies range from 100 free miles per night to unlimited, so confirm before booking, especially if you are planning a longer RV road trip from Belvedere.
southcarolinaparks.com/How does payment and the security deposit work?
Payment is simple and secure: you pay through RVezy at the time of booking with a credit or debit card, and your money is held safely until your trip starts, never sent directly to the host. A refundable security deposit is held separately from your booking payment before pickup (typical range is $500 to $1,500 depending on the RV's value), and it is released after the trip if there is no damage and the RV is returned with the agreed-upon fuel and tank levels. To avoid any issues, snap photos at pickup and drop-off, refill the gas tank to the same level, and empty the holding tanks if your agreement requires it.
