Clearwater camping overview
Clearwater is a small census-designated place in Aiken County, South Carolina, sitting in the historic Horse Creek Valley about five miles east of downtown Augusta, Georgia. The community is part of the Augusta metropolitan area and shares its road network, shopping, and airport access, which makes it a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Central Savannah River Area.
The surrounding Sandhills landscape blends pine forest, rolling farmland, and creek bottoms, with the South Fork of the Edisto River and several state parks within easy driving distance. Options near Clearwater lean toward smaller private RV parks rather than large resorts, so travelers typically choose between properties on the South Carolina side, such as Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park, Campertown RV Park, and Aiken RV Park, or cross the river to sites in the Augusta area like Heritage RV Park and Plantation Oaks RV Park. Elevation is modest at roughly 269 feet, and the terrain is gentle enough for straightforward towing.

Outdoor recreation centers on the rivers and state parks of Aiken County. Aiken State Park, about a half-hour drive east, offers a 1.7-mile canoe and kayak trail on the South Fork of the Edisto River, four spring-fed ponds for paddling and fishing, and the three-mile Jungle Trail for hiking. The park also has a seasonal swimming area and geocaches scattered through the property.
Downtown Aiken is known for its historic core, equestrian venues, and Hitchcock Woods urban forest. Across the river, Augusta adds the Augusta Canal National Heritage Area, the Signal Corps museum at Fort Eisenhower, and Riverwalk Augusta. The Masters Tournament each April brings heavy demand for lodging throughout the region.

Wildflowers, azaleas, and the Masters Tournament in April push spring bookings early, and rigs staying near Augusta during Masters week should reserve many months ahead.
Summer brings consistent heat, high humidity, and frequent afternoon thunderstorms, with highs often in the low 90s. Shaded sites and functional air conditioning are worth prioritizing. Fall cools gradually from September through November and typically delivers the driest, most pleasant conditions of the year. Winters are short and mild, with occasional freezes and rare light snow. Booking RV sites near Clearwater
Private RV parks near Clearwater, including Carolina Hill Mobile Home and RV Park, Campertown RV Park, Aiken RV Park, Heritage RV Park, and Plantation Oaks RV Park, are booked directly through each operator by phone or website. Many cater to long-term and monthly guests as well as overnighters, so calling ahead is the most reliable way to confirm big-rig access, hookups, and availability.
For state park camping in the region, South Carolina State Parks accepts reservations up to 13 months in advance through its central reservation system or by phone. Masters Tournament week in April books out well ahead, and holiday weekends fill quickly.
What to expect at Clearwater RV parks
Most RV parks in the Clearwater and greater Aiken area are compact, owner-operated properties rather than destination resorts. Expect gravel or grass pads, 30 and 50 amp electric service, water, and sewer at most full-hookup sites, with laundry and Wi-Fi common but not universal. Some smaller parks have narrow interior roads, so travelers with longer rigs should confirm site length and turn radius before arrival.
Cell coverage is generally good near the Augusta metro, but weaker on rural approaches to state parks. Tree cover is often mature pine and hardwood, which provides welcome shade in summer but can limit satellite reception. Pets are typically allowed on leash.
