Campgrounds and RV parks near Converse, SC

Croft State Park anchors the outdoor scene with more than 17 miles of biking and hiking trails, two lakes for fishing and boating, a playground, and more than 20 miles of equestrian trails with arena facilities. Anglers target bass and bream on Lake Craig, and paddlers can launch small boats from the park ramp, though motorized boats are limited to electric trolling motors. Families staying at Spacious Skies Peach Haven can use on-site amenities including full-hookup and shaded sites plus cabins for larger groups. Nearby attractions include Cowpens National Battlefield, Kings Mountain National Military Park, the Gaffney Peachoid water tower, and the Gaffney Outlet Marketplace. Downtown Spartanburg adds restaurants, breweries, and the Chapman Cultural Center within a short drive of most campgrounds.

The Upcountry has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and muggy with afternoon thunderstorms common, and winters are cold but generally mild by North American standards, with occasional light snow. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with lower humidity and cooler nights that suit tent add-ons and awning meals. Summer weekends and holidays draw the heaviest bookings at Croft and the private parks, so families should reserve well ahead for Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day. Fall brings hardwood color into October and November, and the region's battlefields host living-history events tied to Revolutionary War anniversaries. During the winter 2026-2027 season, select camping and equestrian sites at Croft State Park will be temporarily closed on a rotating basis for remediation work, with closures occurring in phases rather than all at once. Winter travelers should check the park's posted schedule before booking.

Croft's campsites are packed gravel with water and electrical hookups; some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, twenty-five sites offer 50-amp service, and campgrounds are convenient to restrooms with hot showers. The park has two camping loops, one on the lake and one through the woods, plus a primitive group camping area, a dump station, and a camp store. Private parks in the area lean more amenity-heavy, with full hookups, laundry, and Wi-Fi common at properties like Spacious Skies Peach Haven and Cunningham RV Park. Pets are allowed at South Carolina state park campgrounds but must be on a leash no longer than six feet or otherwise physically restrained. Cell coverage is generally reliable across the I-85 corridor.
