Campgrounds and RV parks near Helena, SC

Helena is a small census-designated place in Newberry County, South Carolina, bordered on the east by the city of Newberry, the county seat. It sits in the Piedmont region roughly 40 miles northwest of Columbia, with SC Highway 121 running through the community and connecting to U.S. Route 76 and SC Highway 34. The area works well as an RV base because it sits between two major recreation lakes. Lake Murray lies a short drive southeast, and Lake Greenwood is west of town. Both reservoirs anchor state parks with RV camping, and the surrounding Sumter National Forest adds public land to the west. Closest options include Newberry / I-26 / Sumter NF KOA Journey for an easy interstate stop, Dreher Island State Park on Lake Murray, and Lake Greenwood State Park. Boaters and anglers also use Moon Landing RV Park and Marina and Siesta Cove Marina- RV Park for waterfront sites with marina access.

South Carolina State Parks use a central reservation system. Camping at Dreher Island State Park and Lake Greenwood State Park can be booked online through the state parks reservation site or by calling 1-866-345-PARK. Reservations may be made up to 13 months in advance, and requests less than one day before check-in must be made directly with the park. Campsite rentals are typically accepted for a two-night minimum, and busier periods may push that higher, so plan holiday weekends and prime lakeside sites early. Private parks including Newberry / I-26 / Sumter NF KOA Journey, Moon Landing RV Park and Marina, and Siesta Cove Marina- RV Park handle reservations directly through their own websites or by phone.
