Downtown Charleston is the main draw: the historic district, the Battery, and ferry service to Fort Sumter all sit within a short drive. Patriots Point in Mount Pleasant is home to the USS Yorktown and is a common family stop. Beaches are close on all sides. Most private campgrounds in the area stay open year-round, while state park sites see lighter demand and easier last-minute availability.

Plan for insects: mosquitoes and no-see-ums are active from spring through fall, especially near the marsh. The ground is flat and low-lying, so heavy rain can cause standing water at some sites.
