The Upstate has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot, and humid summers, and cool to semi-mild winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable stretches for RV camping, with daytime highs typically in the 60s to low 80s Fahrenheit and lower humidity than mid-summer. Wildflowers and dogwoods peak in April, and fall color in the surrounding Piedmont usually arrives in late October and early November. Summer brings the busiest camping demand. Heavy seasonal downpours or afternoon thunderstorms can occur during the warmer months, humidity is high, and shaded sites fill first. Minimum length of stay is two nights for advance reservations, and longer stays may be required during peak season and holidays, so summer bookings should go in well ahead of arrival. Winter is the quiet season. Spartanburg receives very little snowfall, but freezing nights occur and some private campgrounds reduce services. Select camping and equestrian sites at Croft State Park are temporarily closed on a rotating basis for remediation work, in phases, with not all sites closed at the same time, so check current availability when planning cold-weather trips.

Croft State Park sites are packed gravel with water and electrical hookups. Some sites accommodate RVs up to 40 feet, twenty-five of the campsites offer 50-amp service, and the campgrounds are convenient to restrooms with hot showers. Pets are allowed in camping areas on a leash no greater than six feet. Private parks in the area lean more amenity-heavy, with full hookups, paved or gravel pads, laundry, pools, and family activities. Spacious Skies Peach Haven offers a pool, mini golf course, jumping pillow, and rec hall. Big-rig access is generally good along the I-85 corridor. Cell coverage is reliable near Spartanburg and along the interstates, thinner in the wooded interior of Croft. All firewood brought into South Carolina State Parks must be from within the state and from less than 50 miles away.
