Campgrounds and RV parks near Collinwood, TN

Collinwood sits in Wayne County in south-central Tennessee, roughly halfway between Nashville and Tupelo, and lies just off the Natchez Trace Parkway at milepost 355. The town serves as a common stop for travelers on the Trace, with the Wayne County Welcome Center, markets, and restaurants a short distance from the parkway exit. RV travelers use Collinwood as a base for the Buffalo River corridor, Shoal Creek, and the Laurel Hill Wildlife Management Area to the east. Campground options in the area lean toward small, family-run river operations rather than large resort parks. Shoal Creek Canoe Run near Iron City pairs primitive sites with a paddling outfitter on Shoal Creek. Creekside Camp and Crazy Horse Recreational Park sit along the Buffalo River near Waynesboro, offering direct river access, cabins, and mixed tent and RV sites. Laurel Hill Trail and Camp connects to the surrounding wildlife management area, and Tennessee Fitness Spa operates as a wellness retreat rather than a standard campground. Most sites in the area are creek- or river-oriented, so trip planning tends to center on paddling, fishing, and access to the Natchez Trace.

Reservation systems in this area are fragmented. Private river campgrounds such as Crazy Horse Recreational Park, Creekside Camp, and Shoal Creek Canoe Run are booked directly with the operator by phone or through their websites, and some waterfront sites are held on a first-come basis. Cash is often preferred at the smaller river operations, so it is worth calling ahead. Laurel Hill Trail and Camp connects to public land managed by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, where camping is only allowed in designated areas and use is tied to hunting and fishing rather than an online reservation portal. For state parks within driving range, Tennessee State Parks accepts bookings through its official tnstateparks.com system. Summer weekends and holidays fill first, so reserving four to eight weeks in advance is reasonable for peak-season river trips.
