Campgrounds and RV parks near Finley, TN

Reelfoot Lake covers about 15,000 acres of flooded forest, with cypress trees rising above the water and submerged stumps beneath. The shallow lake is popular for boating, paddling, and fishing, and anglers target crappie, bluegill, catfish, and bass. Kayaks and canoes can be rented year-round from the South Campground camp store. At the state park, visitors can tour the Visitor Center museum, the aviary and Birds of Prey display, and the cypress boardwalk over the lake. Five public boat launch ramps ring the shoreline, and hiking trails such as the Keystone Trail and Broad Slough Trail suit casual walkers and birdwatchers. In winter, ranger-led bald eagle and waterfowl tours are the headline activity. Dyersburg, a short drive south, offers grocery stores, fuel, restaurants, and basic RV supplies.

Spring is one of the busiest camping seasons around Reelfoot Lake. The South Campground is extremely busy during April and May, driven by the crappie spawn and mild weather. Reserve early if travel dates fall in this window, and expect fuller sites at private parks as well. Summer brings hot, humid days and warm nights. Mosquitoes and other biting insects are common near the lake and bottomlands, so screens, repellent, and a shaded site help. Afternoon thunderstorms are typical, and interpretive programs run through the summer months at the state park. Pontoon boat cruises operate from May through September. Fall cools quickly and delivers strong fishing, migrating waterfowl, and the arrival of American white pelicans in early October, which the park celebrates with an annual Pelican Festival. Winter is the marquee season for wildlife: Reelfoot Lake is home to roughly 200 American bald eagles and large numbers of waterfowl during the winter months. Bald eagle and waterfowl tours run daily in January and February, with the annual Eagle Festival held on the first weekend of February.

At the state park's South Campground, there are 86 RV and tent campsites, all paved, with 20, 30, and 50-amp electrical hookups and water hookups, three bathhouses with restrooms (two with hot showers and one with a washer, dryer, and dish washing area), and a dump station at the entrance. Many sites sit on or near the lake shore, and the campground has a boat launch, fish cleaning house, and camp store. Only heat-treated firewood is allowed into the state park, or downed wood collected inside the park near the campsite. Firewood is also sold at the Visitor Center and the South Campground camp store. Private RV parks in the area typically offer full hookups, longer pull-throughs suitable for larger rigs, and simpler amenities. Expect flat terrain, easy road access from US 51 and state highways, and rural surroundings. Cell service is generally usable, but streaming and remote-work bandwidth can be inconsistent at more remote sites.
