Reelfoot Lake is the marquee draw within reach. The lake was created by the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812 and is famous for its partially submerged cypress forest, water lilies, and exceptional fishing for crappie, bluegill, bass, and catfish. Bald eagles nest in the park, and eagle tours run during winter months. On the water, expect boating, kayaking, and guided pontoon trips. The park maintains boat launching ramps and a fish cleaning house with electricity and water, and interpretive programs run during summer. Across the river at Caruthersville, Century Casinos opened a new land-based casino and hotel in November 2024, the state's first non-floating casino, featuring nearly 600 slot machines and about ten live dealer tables. Jackson, about 40 minutes southeast of Friendship, adds grocery runs, museums, and chain restaurants.
