Campgrounds near Hollow Rock, Tennessee
Hollow Rock sits in Carroll County in West Tennessee, roughly halfway between Nashville and Memphis and a short drive north of Interstate 40. The area gives RV travelers access to a large man-made recreation lake, two Tennessee State Parks, and Kentucky Lake, one of the largest reservoirs in the country.
The closest developed camping is at Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake near Huntingdon, the largest man-made lake in West Tennessee with more than 22 miles of shoreline. South of I-40, Wrangler Horse Camp - Natchez Trace State Park anchors a 48,000-acre landscape of state park, state forest, and wildlife management areas. To the northwest, Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park covers 2,700 acres along the western shore of Kentucky Lake.
Commercial options add variety close to the interstate. Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground sits near the historic Civil War battlefield exit, and Birdsong Resort and Marina Lakeside RV and Tent Campground offers a lake-oriented base on Kentucky Lake for boaters and anglers.
Things to do near Hollow Rock

The 1,000 Acre Lake supports fishing, boating, swimming, and water sports, with 600 acres dedicated to water sports and 400 acres reserved for fishing. West Tennessee has warm, humid summers and cool, damp winters with occasional cold snaps. Summers are hot and muggy, winters are cold and wet, and it stays partly cloudy year round. Peak RV season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when swim beaches, concessions, and marinas are fully staffed and family bookings surge.
Spring brings the region's severe weather peak. Tornadoes in Tennessee tend to concentrate in spring, so RV travelers should monitor watches and know where storm shelters are located. Rain is heaviest from late winter through May, and lakes can run high.
Several state park facilities are undergoing multi-year renovation. At Nathan Bedford Forrest State Park, the Happy Hollow and Lakefront Campgrounds are closed for structural renovations, with an anticipated reopening in early 2027. At Natchez Trace State Park, Cub Lake Campground 2 and the Wrangler Campground are closed for renovations, and the Pin Oak Lodge and Restaurant are being rebuilt with an anticipated reopening in spring 2028. Confirm campground status before you book.
How to book campgrounds near Hollow Rock
Tennessee State Park sites at Natchez Trace and Nathan Bedford Forrest are reserved through the official Tennessee State Parks reservation portal at reserve.tnstateparks.com. Campsites can be booked up to 12 months in advance, and there is a non-refundable advanced reservation fee per campsite. Most sites require a two-night minimum.
Horse stall reservations at Natchez Trace are handled separately by calling the Visitor Center rather than booking online. Guests who do not occupy a reserved site by the day after the first reserved night may forfeit fees and lose the site.
Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake, Birdsong Resort and Marina Lakeside RV and Tent Campground, and Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground are booked directly with each property. Weekends and holiday weeks in summer fill first, especially lakefront sites with hookups.
What to expect on the ground
Site standards vary widely. Natchez Trace State Park's Pin Oak Campground offers 50-amp electric, sewer, and water hookups and can accommodate RVs up to 80 feet, while Cub Lake Campground 1 has a 25-foot RV size limit and Cub Lake Campground 2 caps sites at 20 feet. Cell service in the Pin Oak campground area is very limited.
Bring certified heat-treated firewood or plan to buy on site, as outside firewood is generally not allowed in state parks due to invasive-pest rules. Check-in at state park campgrounds is 4:00 pm and check-out is 12:00 pm.
At Nathan Bedford Forrest, use the park GPS address 1825 Pilot Knob Road, Eva, TN, since searching the park name routes some drivers to a back gate with no cell reception. Large rigs headed to Natchez Trace should use the Highway 114 entrance from I-40 exit 116 and avoid GPS routes onto county or gravel roads.

Great news for first-time renters: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Hollow Rock, Tennessee. The state does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) for any motorhome or travel trailer you'll find on the RVezy marketplace, including Class A, Class C, fifth wheels, and campervans. You'll need to be at least 25 years old, and RVezy verifies your ID right inside the booking flow, so there is no extra trip to a DMV. Visiting from abroad? Bring an International Driving Permit (IDP) alongside your home license. Once you've booked, your host will run a full walkthrough at pickup, so even brand-new drivers feel confident before pulling onto US-70.
tn.gov/safety/driver-services/classd.htmlIs my RV rental in Hollow Rock protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RV rental in Hollow Rock booked through RVezy comes with a renter protection plan and 24/7 roadside assistance built into the reservation. The protection plan helps cover physical damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage tier during checkout, not the host, so you decide how much peace of mind you want before leaving Carroll County. Pro tip: review the coverage tiers carefully if you are planning longer drives toward Memphis or Nashville so your plan is matched to your route.

Booking is low-risk: RVezy, not individual hosts, sets the cancellation policy for every RV rental in Hollow Rock, so the rules are consistent across listings. There is a grace period after booking where a full refund is available, and additional protections apply for qualifying situations, which matters in West Tennessee where spring storms can roll through. Review the current cancellation terms on RVezy before you confirm so you know exactly what applies to your dates. Pro tip: book early to lock in summer Kentucky Lake dates, knowing you have a built-in cushion if your plans change.

Common drop-off spots include Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake, Paris Landing State Park on Kentucky Lake, and Natchez Trace State Park. Use the Delivery filter on RVezy to see which listings offer it, then message the host with your exact address. Winter is mild with highs often in the 40s to 50s F, making it a quiet, budget-friendly time to camp. Pro tip: target mid to late October for the best mix of color and weather.
weather.gov/meg/I've never driven an RV before, will I be okay around Hollow Rock?
You'll be fine, first time renting an RV in Hollow Rock is genuinely beginner-friendly. The area is rural, the speed limits are moderate, and the main routes (US-70, US-79, and Highway 22) are wide two-lane highways without big-city traffic or low bridges. Every RVezy host gives you a hands-on walkthrough at pickup covering driving, slide-outs, hookups, and the dump process, so you leave the driveway feeling ready. If parallel parking still sounds intimidating, choose delivery and skip driving entirely. Pro tip: pick a smaller Class C motorhome or a travel trailer under 25 feet for your first trip, and plan your first stop at Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake where the pull-through sites are forgiving.

You will also have your host's direct number for quick questions like resetting the generator or relighting the water heater, plus RVezy customer support for anything bigger. Cell coverage is generally solid along I-40 and around Huntingdon, McKenzie, and Camden. Pro tip: snap photos of tire pressure, fluid levels, and the exterior at pickup so you have a clear record, and save the roadside number to your phone before you pull away.

Cross-border trips into Canada may be allowed by some hosts with proper documentation, so ask upfront. Travel into Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection do not extend there. Pro tip: a classic RV road trip from Hollow Rock heads north on The Trace through Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area, with elk sightings and lakeside boondocking.
lbl.org/How much should I budget for fuel on a Hollow Rock RV trip?
Fuel is one of the easier costs to plan around Hollow Rock since Tennessee gas prices typically run below the national average. Travel trailers don't burn fuel themselves but reduce your tow vehicle to roughly 10 to 12 MPG, while Class C motorhomes average 8 to 12 MPG and Class A motorhomes around 6 to 10 MPG. For a 200-mile weekend loop to Paris Landing and back, budget roughly $80 to $130 in gas depending on the rig. Fill up in McKenzie or Huntingdon where prices are usually lower than at the I-40 exits. Pro tip: drive 60 to 62 mph rather than 70, you'll often gain 1 to 2 MPG, which is real money over a week of family RV trip miles.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Hollow Rock?
You have flexibility, but earlier is better for popular spots. Tennessee State Parks like Paris Landing and Natchez Trace use the official reserve.tnstateparks.com system and open bookings up to one year in advance, with summer holiday weekends filling quickly. For Carroll County 1000 Acre Recreational Lake, reservations are handled by the county and typically open in spring. Private parks like Parkers Crossroads usually book a few weeks ahead, with more midweek availability. Pro tip: check Tuesday mornings when cancellations often hit the system, and aim to lock in Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends by February.

Watch for occasional deer at dawn and dusk on rural stretches, and slow down in small towns like McKenzie and Huntingdon where speed limits drop quickly. Summer afternoon thunderstorms can bring heavy rain, so check the National Weather Service Memphis forecast before heading out. Pro tip: avoid driving I-40 near Jackson during Friday rush hour, take TN-22 south instead for a calmer, scenic alternative on your motorhome rental Hollow Rock route.

tn.gov/tdec/parks.htmlHow does payment and the security deposit work when I rent an RV in Hollow Rock?
Payment is simple and secure. You pay through RVezy, never directly to the host, which keeps everything tracked and protected. If the RV returns in the same condition as pickup, the deposit is released after the trip. To avoid issues, do a thorough walkaround video at pickup and drop-off with your host, note existing dings, and return the RV with the agreed fuel and tank levels. Pro tip: keep a dump station receipt as proof you emptied tanks before return.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360038106214-How-the-security-deposit-worksWhat's a great first RV road trip from Hollow Rock?
For a perfect first RV road trip from Hollow Rock, point the rig north toward Kentucky Lake. Start with two nights at Paris Landing State Park (about 30 miles north) for swimming, fishing, and sunset cruises, then drive another 20 miles into Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area for elk-and-bison prairie drives, the Homeplace 1850s farm, and dark-sky stargazing at the Golden Pond Planetarium. Loop back through Dover for a stop at Fort Donelson National Battlefield, then home, total mileage about 150 miles round trip. Pro tip: book the lakeside loop at Paris Landing's campground in advance through reserve.tnstateparks.com, and grab catfish at Cypress Bay Restaurant on your way back through, it's a local favorite that locals quietly love.
