Campgrounds and RV parks near Hornbeak, TN

Reelfoot Lake is the anchor attraction, known for crappie, bluegill, bass, and catfish fishing from boats, banks, piers, and boardwalks. The state park runs guided pontoon and swamp tours, and rents kayaks and canoes from the Camp Store at the South Campground. Wildlife viewing is a major draw: bald eagles winter on the lake in January and February, and American white pelicans arrive during fall migration, celebrated at the park's annual Pelican Festival in late October. Easy hiking trails include the half-mile Campground Trail, the 1.5-mile Keystone and Airpark trails, and the two-mile Black Bayou Trail, popular with birders. The R.C. Donaldson Museum and Visitor Center covers the lake's geological history and ecology.

The Reelfoot Lake area is a year-round destination, but each season has a distinct character. Winter is the eagle-viewing window, with organized excursions running through January and February and generally quiet campgrounds. Spring brings warming weather and heavier rain, and the state park notes that its South Campground is extremely busy during April and May as anglers arrive for crappie season. Book several weeks ahead for spring weekends. Summer is hot and humid with occasional thunderstorms; interpretive programs run through the season and lake activity peaks. Early fall stays warm and pleasant, and by late October the arrival of migrating white pelicans marks another surge in visitation around the annual festival. Late November through February tend to be the quietest months, with cooler nights and open availability at both state park campgrounds and nearby private RV parks. Tornado activity in west Tennessee peaks in spring, so campers should monitor forecasts closely from March through May.

The South Campground at Reelfoot Lake State Park has 86 paved RV and tent sites with 20/30/50-amp electric and water hookups, three bathhouses, hot showers, laundry, a dishwashing area, and a dump station at the entrance. Some sites sit directly on the lakeshore, and rigs up to about 70 feet can be accommodated. Airpark North is smaller: 14 RV sites with 30-amp electric and water, 10 primitive tent sites, a bathhouse with hot showers, and a nearby dump station. Neither state park campground offers sewer at the site. Sportsmans Resort on the lake caters to anglers with 50-amp service. Union City RV Park and Coyote View RV Park and RV Repair provide full-hookup pull-through style camping closer to town amenities and I-155.
