Campgrounds near Lexington, Tennessee
Lexington sits in Henderson County in West Tennessee, about 40 minutes northeast of Jackson and roughly halfway between Nashville and Memphis along the I-40 corridor. The area's biggest camping draw is Natchez Trace State Park, a large public land holding that anchors most RV trips in the region. The park sits within a 48,000-acre landscape that includes a state forest and wildlife management area, with multiple lakes and campgrounds a short drive from town.
Pin Oak RV - Natchez Trace State Park is the flagship RV campground, set on the shore of Pin Oak Lake with 50-amp electric, water, and sewer hookups and space for rigs up to 80 feet. Wrangler Horse Camp - Natchez Trace State Park serves equestrian travelers, with sites designed to picket horses near the park's extensive trail network, though it is currently closed for renovations.
Private and county options round out the area. Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground sits just off I-40 at Exit 108, a common overnight stop for cross-state travelers. Sycamore Lake Campground and Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake give anglers and families quieter, lake-focused alternatives north of Lexington.
Things to do near Lexington
Water recreation is the headline activity. Pin Oak Lake at Natchez Trace State Park allows motorboats, and campers use it for fishing, paddling, and access to a swim beach and boat dock. Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake, the largest man-made lake in West Tennessee, has more than 22 miles of shoreline and two swimming beaches, with a concession stand typically open from late May until Labor Day. The lake is stocked with largemouth bass, bluegill, crappie, and catfish.
On land, Natchez Trace State Park offers hiking ranging from short loops to a 40-mile overnight trail, plus over 250 miles of horseback riding trails accessible from the park. History-minded travelers can visit the Parkers Crossroads Civil War Battlefield near Exit 108 and the Casey Jones Home and Railroad Museum in Jackson.

West Tennessee has a humid subtropical climate with hot, muggy summers and short, cool winters. Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel, with daytime highs in the 60s and 70s Fahrenheit and manageable humidity. Spring is also the wettest stretch, with May typically the rainiest month and a peak in tornado activity across the state.
Summer draws the biggest crowds to Pin Oak Lake and the Carroll County lake beaches. Expect highs near 90 Fahrenheit, warm nights, and afternoon thunderstorms. Book weekends and holidays well ahead, since state park sites at Natchez Trace can be reserved up to a year in advance and fill quickly during peak season.
Winter brings quiet campgrounds and bug-free stays. Pin Oak Campground remains open year-round, though some sites close after December 1, and both the Wrangler Campground and Cub Lake Campground 2 are closed for renovations. Snow is minimal, but occasional ice storms can affect travel.
How to book campgrounds near Lexington
Sites within Natchez Trace State Park, including Pin Oak and Wrangler, are reserved through the Tennessee State Parks system at reserve.tnstateparks.com or by calling 1-888-TN-PARKS. Reservations can be made up to one year in advance, and a non-refundable reservation fee applies per campsite. Horse stalls at the Wrangler camp are reserved separately by calling the Natchez Trace State Park Visitor Center at 731-968-3742.
Private parks such as Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground take reservations directly through the property's website or by phone, with their own cancellation windows. Renters must be 18 or older to book a state park site, and a parent or adult must accompany anyone under 18.
County-run facilities at Carroll County Thousand Acre Recreation Lake operate seasonally, so confirm gate hours and camping availability with the lake office before arrival.
What to expect on the ground
Pin Oak Campground has two bathhouses, full hookups including 50-amp, and pads that handle large rigs, with pull-throughs available. Cell service is very limited inside the Pin Oak area, so download maps and reservations before arrival. The park's lodge and restaurant are closed for a full rebuild, and a food truck operates at the camp store during construction.
Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground offers full-hookup pull-throughs just off Exit 108, with a small camp store, laundry, and a fishing pond. Sites can accommodate large rigs.
Bring certified heat-treated firewood, since state parks restrict outside firewood to protect forests. Cottonmouths and copperheads are present in the region, so watch footing on trails and near water.
