Campgrounds near Linden, Tennessee
Linden sits in Perry County along the Buffalo River in west-central Tennessee, roughly halfway between Nashville and the Tennessee River. The town serves as a practical base for RV travelers exploring the Buffalo River corridor, the Tennessee River valley, and the wooded ridges of the western Highland Rim.
Campground options in the area range from state park sites to private riverfront resorts. Mousetail Landing State Park sits on the eastern bank of the Tennessee River in Perry County near Linden, and it operates two campgrounds: the Main campground with RV hookups and the primitive Spring Creek campground along the river. Crazy Horse Recreational Park provides a private riverside setting on the Buffalo River with paddling access on-site.
Further options include Tennessee Fitness Spa near Waynesboro for travelers combining camping with wellness activities, and the Buffalo / I-40 / Exit 143 KOA Journey, a full-service interstate stopover for RVs traveling along I-40 between Nashville and Memphis.
Things to do near Linden
The Buffalo River is the region's main draw. Paddling, tubing, and float trips run from spring through early fall, and Crazy Horse Recreational Park sits directly on the river with access to calm-water sections suitable for families.
Mousetail Landing State Park adds hiking trails, a swimming beach, a boat ramp on the Tennessee River, and a day-use area with picnic shelters. With the park located on the Tennessee River, fishing is a popular activity, permitted anywhere you can reach water, and bass, bream, crappie, stripe and catfish can be caught along the banks.
Beyond the water, drivers can reach the Natchez Trace Parkway within roughly an hour, and the town of Linden itself has small local diners and a historic courthouse square for a short break off the road.

Spring brings mild temperatures, high river flows, and the region's heaviest paddling traffic on the Buffalo River. Campgrounds begin filling on weekends by April, and outfitters staff up as water levels stabilize. Wildflowers and dogwoods peak in April.
Summer is hot and humid, with afternoon thunderstorms common. This is peak season for RV campgrounds: Mousetail Landing State Park sites frequently book out on weekends, and river-adjacent private parks like Crazy Horse Recreational Park see their highest demand around holiday weekends. Early-morning paddling avoids the midday heat.
Fall delivers the most stable weather of the year. September and October bring cooler nights, lower humidity, lower river levels, and hardwood color that peaks in late October and early November. Winter is cool and wet, with occasional snow. Some private campgrounds reduce services or close seasonally, while Mousetail Landing State Park is open year round with limited amenities in the colder months.
How to book a campground near Linden
Tennessee State Parks manages reservations for both the Main and Spring Creek campgrounds at Mousetail Landing State Park. Reservations can be made online through the Tennessee State Parks system or by calling 1-888-TN-PARKS. Advanced reservations are available prior to arrival, and may be made up to 1 year in advance.
Private campgrounds handle their own bookings. Crazy Horse Recreational Park, Tennessee Fitness Spa, and the Buffalo / I-40 / Exit 143 KOA Journey each take reservations directly by phone or through their own websites, with the KOA also bookable through the KOA reservation platform.
For holiday weekends and October foliage, book two to three months ahead. Midweek stays outside of summer are usually available on shorter notice.
What to expect on the ground
Roads into the Buffalo River corridor are two-lane and winding in places, so larger Class A rigs and long fifth-wheels should plan routes carefully and use GPS designed for RVs. Cell coverage is spotty in the river valleys and inside Mousetail Landing State Park, though it improves near I-40 and in Linden itself.
Hookups vary by site. The main park campground has a modern bathhouse, laundromat, and electricity and water hookups at 19 of the 25 campsites, WiFi is available at campsites 1-13, and a dump station is also located within this area. The KOA Journey along I-40 provides full hookups suited to overnight interstate travel, while private river-oriented parks focus on access and shade rather than resort amenities.
Biting insects, ticks, and chiggers are active from late spring through early fall. Bring repellent, long layers for evenings, and check for ticks after any hike or river outing.

How much does it cost to rent an RV in Linden, TN?

On RVezy, travel trailers typically run $90 to $160 per night, Class C motorhomes range $175 to $275 per night, and larger Class A rigs can reach $300 to $400 per night. Because Linden is a small Perry County town rather than a big metro, you'll often find better rates than in Nashville (about 100 miles east). To snag a cheap RV rental in Linden, book midweek, target shoulder seasons like late April or October, and filter by Instant Book for quick-confirmation listings. Bundling 4+ nights often unlocks a weekly discount from the host.
rvezy.com/rv-search?SearchAddress=Linden,TennesseeDo I need a special license to rent an RV in Linden, TN?
Great news: a regular driver's license is all you need to rent an RV in Linden, TN. Tennessee does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or any special RV endorsement for personal motorhomes or travel trailers, even larger Class A rigs. You'll just need to be 25 or older, and RVezy will verify your ID securely through the platform during booking. Visiting from outside the U.S.? Bring your home-country license plus an International Driving Permit (IDP), which most national auto associations issue for under $25. With paperwork out of the way, you can focus on the fun part: planning your float down the Buffalo River.
tn.gov/safety/driver-services/classd.htmlIs my Linden RV rental protected if something goes wrong?
Yes, every RVezy booking in Linden includes a renter protection plan plus 24/7 roadside assistance, so you can hit the back roads of Perry County with confidence. The protection plan covers most accidental damage to the RV during your trip, and you choose your coverage level at checkout based on how much peace of mind you want. You control your coverage tier, not the host, which is especially reassuring if it's your first time renting an RV or driving rural routes like TN-13 along the Buffalo River. Review the plan details before booking so you know exactly what is covered.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/34008759079835-RVezy-renter-protection-plans-in-detailWhat happens if I need to cancel my Linden RV trip?
Booking is low-risk: RVezy sets the cancellation policy for every reservation (hosts do not), and there is a grace-period window after booking where you can cancel for a full refund. After that, the amount refunded depends on how far out from your trip you cancel. Because the cancellation policy is an RVezy-wide process rather than host-specific, you will not see it on individual listings. If severe weather such as a tornado watch or flash flood warning affects your dates, contact RVezy support right away and the team can walk you through your options so your Linden RV trip stays stress-free.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360037736674-Understanding-the-cancellation-policy-for-guestsCan I bring my dog on an RV rental in Linden, TN?
Absolutely, pet-friendly RV rental in Linden options are easy to find on RVezy, just toggle the Pet-Friendly filter when searching. Linden is a dream destination for dog owners: Mousetail Landing State Park welcomes leashed pets on its hiking trails and at riverside picnic areas, and many outfitters along the Buffalo River allow dogs on float trips. Downtown Linden's courthouse square is walkable and dog-friendly for a stroll past murals and the historic Commodore Hotel. Some hosts charge a small pet fee or cleaning surcharge, which you'll see clearly before booking. Pack a towel and a collapsible water bowl so your pup can splash in the Buffalo's clear waters.
tnstateparks.com/parks/mousetail-landingCan the RV be delivered to my campsite near Linden?
Yes, RV delivery Linden is one of the easiest ways to start your trip, especially if you're new to RVing. Many RVezy hosts in the Linden and broader Perry County area will drive the RV directly to your campsite at Mousetail Landing State Park, a riverside spot along TN-13, or even a private property on the Buffalo River. They'll level it, hook up water and power, and walk you through every system before handing over the keys. Delivery fees typically depend on mileage from the host's location. Just message the host through the listing to confirm your destination address and pickup time. It's the closest thing to a turn-key camping in Linden experience.
tnstateparks.com/parks/mousetail-landingHow far can I drive on an RV rental from Linden?
Plenty far, and RV rental with unlimited mileage is available from many Linden-area hosts on RVezy. Others include a daily allowance (usually 100 to 150 miles) with a small per-mile fee beyond that, which you'll see upfront on the listing. From Linden you're perfectly positioned: Nashville is about 100 miles northeast (roughly 1 hour 45 minutes), Memphis is 140 miles west, the Natchez Trace Parkway entrance is about 25 miles south, and Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is around 80 miles northwest. If you're planning a longer RV road trip from Linden, filter for unlimited-mileage listings to avoid budgeting around an odometer.
nps.gov/natr/index.htmWhat are the best campgrounds near Linden, TN?
You're spoiled for choice when it comes to RV camping Linden options. Mousetail Landing State Park (about 20 minutes northwest on the Tennessee River) offers 31 RV sites with water and electric hookups, a swim beach, and hiking trails. Buffalo River Outpost on TN-13 is a laid-back riverfront campground popular with paddlers. Commodore Hotel's riverside RV spots just outside downtown Linden put you steps from live music and the Music Café. A bit further afield, Natchez Trace State Park (about an hour northwest) has 144 hookup sites and four lakes. Pro tip: Mousetail's lakeside loop books up fast on summer weekends, so reserve early through the Tennessee State Parks site.
tnstateparks.com/parks/mousetail-landingWhen is the best time of year for an RV trip in Linden, TN?
Linden's sweet spot runs from mid-April through late October, with two standout seasons. Spring (April-May) brings 65-78°F days, blooming dogwoods, and the Blooming Arts Festival in late March on the courthouse square. Fall (mid-September to early November) delivers cool 55-75°F days, fiery hardwood color along the Buffalo River, and the Remembering World War II event that transforms downtown into a 1940s European village. Summers are hot and humid (highs 88-93°F) but perfect for kayaking the river's 10-mile float to cool off. Winters are mild (40-55°F highs) and many RV parks stay open year-round, making December trips a quiet, budget-friendly option. There's truly no bad time for a Linden RV trip.
weather.gov/ohx/I have never driven an RV before. Can I still rent one in Linden?
You absolutely can, and Linden is a great place for first time renting an RV because the roads are quiet, scenic, and forgiving compared to big-city traffic. Every RVezy host gives you a thorough walkthrough at pickup, showing you how to operate the generator, slide-outs, water systems, and propane, and you can ask as many questions as you need. If you're nervous about driving, start with a smaller campervan rental in Linden or a 24-foot Class C, both easy to handle. Many hosts will also deliver and set up at your campsite so you barely have to drive. Practice in a quiet lot before heading out on TN-13.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039008774-Understanding-approved-driver-requirementsWhat if I have a breakdown during my Linden RV trip?
You're covered: 24/7 roadside assistance is included with every RVezy booking, so help is just a phone call away whether you're parked at Mousetail Landing or broken down on the Natchez Trace Parkway. The service handles common issues like flat tires, dead batteries, lockouts, fuel delivery, and towing to the nearest qualified repair shop. Cell service can be spotty on rural Perry County roads, especially along the Buffalo River, so it's smart to download offline maps and save the RVezy support number before you leave town. Your host is also a great first call for quirks specific to their RV. Between the two, you've got a real safety net.
tn.gov/safety/tnhp.htmlCan I take my Linden RV rental to other states or across the border?
Yes, most Linden hosts welcome multi-state RV road trips, and you're in a fantastic spot for it. Popular routes include heading south down the Natchez Trace Parkway into Mississippi and Alabama, west to Memphis and the Mississippi River, or northwest to Land Between the Lakes straddling the Kentucky line. Travel to Canada may be allowed with some hosts, but you'll need to confirm directly through the listing message thread before booking. Travel to Mexico is not permitted on RVezy rentals because insurance and protection coverage do not extend across that border. For interstate trips, confirm your route with the host so they know roughly where their RV will be.
help.rvezy.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039340074-Insurance-coverage-validityHow much will I spend on fuel for an RV trip from Linden?
Fuel is one of the more predictable costs of your Linden RV trip. Tennessee gas prices are typically a bit below the national average. Travel trailers don't burn extra fuel themselves but drop your tow vehicle's MPG to around 10-12. Class C motorhomes average 8-12 MPG, and large Class A diesel pushers run 7-10 MPG. For a typical 4-day, 300-mile loop from Linden through the Natchez Trace and back, budget roughly $100-$150 in fuel for a Class C. Fill up in Linden or Hohenwald before heading deep into the Trace, where there are no gas stations for long stretches.
eia.gov/petroleum/gasdiesel/How far in advance should I book a campground near Linden?
For peace of mind, book Tennessee State Parks campgrounds like Mousetail Landing 3-6 months ahead for summer weekends and holiday periods, and 2-4 weeks ahead for weekdays or shoulder season. Reservations go through the official Tennessee State Parks reservation system online or by phone. Private parks like Buffalo River Outpost and the Commodore Hotel's riverside RV sites also fill up fast during the Blooming Arts Festival in March and the WWII Remembrance event in early fall. Pro tip: if Mousetail Landing is full, check Natchez Trace State Park (about an hour northwest) or Meriwether Lewis Campground on the Natchez Trace Parkway, which often has first-come sites available.
tnstateparks.com/parks/mousetail-landingWhat are the driving conditions like around Linden, TN?
Driving around Linden is one of the most relaxing parts of the trip, with light traffic, scenic two-lane highways, and minimal urban congestion. TN-13 is the main artery and runs north-south along the Buffalo River with gentle curves and rolling hills. Watch for occasional deer, especially at dusk near wooded sections, and be aware that some side roads have low-clearance bridges (under 12 feet) so plan routes ahead if you're driving a tall Class A. The Natchez Trace Parkway nearby has a 50 MPH speed limit, no commercial traffic, and no stop signs, making it an ideal RV drive. Spring thunderstorms can produce sudden downpours, so keep an eye on radar.
smartway.tn.gov/trafficWhat amenities can I expect at campgrounds near Linden?
Most campgrounds around Linden offer solid RV-friendly amenities. Mousetail Landing State Park provides 30-amp electric and water hookups at all 31 RV sites, a centralized dump station, hot showers, and a swim beach. Private parks like Buffalo River Outpost typically offer 30/50-amp electric, water, picnic tables, and fire rings, with some full-hookup sites including sewer. For potable water refills and dump stations between stops, the Pilot Travel Center in Hurricane Mills (about 35 minutes north on I-40) is reliable. Pro tip: bring a 25-foot drinking-water hose and a pressure regulator, water pressure can vary on rural Tennessee systems, and a regulator protects the RV's plumbing.
tnstateparks.com/parks/mousetail-landingWhat's typically included inside a Linden RV rental?
You'll find most rentals on RVezy come ready to camp. A standard motorhome rental Linden setup includes a queen or king bed, bunk or convertible sleeping for 4-6 total, a full kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave, and sink, plus a bathroom with toilet and shower. Many include AC, furnace, propane, a generator or solar setup, outdoor camp chairs, and basic kitchenware. Newer rigs often add a TV, Bluetooth speakers, and a backup camera. WiFi is hit-or-miss in Perry County regardless of the RV, since cell signal weakens along the Buffalo River, so download entertainment ahead of time. Every passenger seat has a seatbelt, important if you're traveling with kids on a family RV trip Linden adventure.
nhtsa.gov/road-safety/recreational-vehicle-safetyWhat add-ons and pickup options do Linden RV hosts offer?
Linden hosts make customizing easy. Common add-ons include kitchen and linen kits, outdoor gear (chairs, grills, fire pits), bike or kayak racks, generators, and pet packages, each priced by the host and listed clearly on the listing page. Pickup is usually at the host's property in or around Linden, but as mentioned, many will deliver to Mousetail Landing, the Commodore's riverside RV area, or a Buffalo River put-in. Mileage policies vary: some offer unlimited, others include 100-150 miles per day with extra miles at $0.30-$0.45 each. Pro tip: if you plan to tackle the full Natchez Trace down to Tupelo, message hosts about an unlimited-mileage upgrade before booking to lock in the best deal.
nps.gov/natr/planyourvisit/directions.htmHow does payment and the security deposit work on RVezy?
Payment is straightforward and fully handled through the secure RVezy platform, with no cash or e-transfers to the host. You'll pay your trip total at booking, which covers the nightly rate, RVezy service fee, and your chosen protection plan. The host's security deposit is separate from the booking payment and is held as a pre-authorization on your card shortly before pickup, then released after the trip if the RV is returned in good condition. Deposit amounts vary by RV class and value. To avoid issues, complete the walkthrough with the host at pickup and dropoff, and return the RV cleaned with fuel and propane levels noted in your agreement.
