Campgrounds and RV parks near Martin, TN

Reelfoot Lake is the main draw. The shallow lake was formed by the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812, and its flooded cypress forest supports exceptional fishing for crappie, bluegill, bass, and catfish. Boat ramps, fishing piers, and paddling routes are spread around the shoreline, and easy interpretive trails and a cypress boardwalk behind the visitor center work well for families. Reelfoot hosts one of the largest wintering populations of bald eagles outside Alaska, and ranger-led eagle tours run daily in January and February from the visitor center. Farther north, Columbus Belmont State Park adds a 2.5-mile trail through preserved Civil War earthworks, a museum, mini golf, and picnic shelters on the bluff overlooking the Mississippi.

Spring and fall are the most comfortable windows for RV travel around Martin. Days warm quickly in April and May, wildflowers appear along the lake, and migratory birds return. Spring brings ospreys, shorebirds, and pelicans, summer features water lilies in bloom on the lake, and pelicans return again in fall alongside cooler days and colour on the hardwoods. Summer is hot and humid. Daytime highs sit in the upper 80s Fahrenheit and heat indices can push well above 100, so shaded sites and hookups with reliable 30- or 50-amp service become important. Afternoon thunderstorms are common, and mosquitoes are active near the lake. Winter is the quietest season for camping but the busiest for wildlife watching. Eagle tours run daily during January and February, departing from the Reelfoot Lake State Park visitor center, and reservations are strongly recommended because tours frequently sell out. Freezing nights are possible, so travellers should confirm water availability at state park sites before arrival.

State park campgrounds around Reelfoot Lake are practical rather than resort-style. Airpark North - Reelfoot Lake State Park provides 14 RV sites with 30-amp electric and water hookups, plus 10 primitive tent-only sites, served by a bathhouse with hot showers. The RV sites do not have sewer hookups, so plan on the on-site dump station near the entrance. Each site includes a picnic table and grill, and pets are allowed if leashed. At Columbus Belmont State Park, sites allow a maximum of two units, typically one camper plus one tent, with a base occupancy of four adults. Cell coverage is generally workable near Martin and Union City but can drop in the lake bottoms and cypress stands, so download maps in advance.
