Campgrounds and RV parks near Middleton, TN

Lake Placid at Chickasaw State Park draws anglers for bass, catfish, and crappie, with rental boats available at the park. Chickasaw's trail network includes several named hiking routes ranging from short, easy lakeside loops to longer forest paths. Horses are available for rent at the park stables, which pairs well with a stay at Wrangler Equestrian - Chickasaw State Park. History travelers can tour the Shiloh battlefield near Pittsburg Landing and the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center across the Mississippi line. There is no camping within Shiloh National Military Park itself, so plan to sleep at a nearby private park such as Corinth RV Park or Big Buck Camping Resort and drive in. Big Hill Pond State Park adds an observation tower, wetlands, and Travis McNatt Lake for a quieter day trip, though visitors should confirm current lake and boardwalk status before arrival.

Spring and fall are the strongest windows for RV travel in this part of West Tennessee. Days are mild, humidity is lower than in high summer, and hardwood color turns from late October into November. Spring brings the wettest stretch of the year, so plan for muddy trails and occasional thunderstorm days. March is the wettest month in nearby Bolivar, averaging around 152 mm of rainfall. Summer is hot and humid, with daytime highs consistently in the upper 80s Fahrenheit. Lake swimming, paddling, and shaded forest trails become the main draw, and demand at state-park loops peaks on summer weekends. Winter is quieter and cooler, with occasional freezes and short bursts of snow. Travelers should also check current park status before booking: portions of Chickasaw State Park's campgrounds have been closed for renovations, and the Big Hill Pond State Park Campground is closed for renovations with no set reopen date, though backcountry sites remain available with a permit. Central Reservations at Tennessee State Parks can confirm which loops are open.

Tennessee State Parks asks that all campfires use heat-treated wood or downed wood collected inside the park, and campers should not bring untreated firewood into the park. Expect biting insects from late spring through early fall, ticks in the state forest, and warm overnight lows in July and August.
