Campgrounds and RV parks near Nixon, TN

Pickwick Lake is the main draw. Boating, water skiing, kayaking, and swimming are common through the warm months, and the Tennessee River tailwaters below Pickwick Dam are known for smallmouth bass, catfish, and crappie. Public boat ramps are available at Pickwick Landing State Park and at Bruton Branch Recreation Area. On land, Pickwick Landing State Park has hiking on the Island Loop Trail, a swim beach, an aviary, and an 18-hole golf course. Shiloh National Military Park, one of the most significant Civil War battlefields in the country, is a short drive north and offers a self-guided auto tour, a visitor center, and a national cemetery. Many visitors combine a lake day with a battlefield visit, or use Green Acres RV Resort or Botel Campground as a base for day trips into nearby Savannah, Tennessee and Corinth, Mississippi.

The Pickwick area has a humid subtropical climate with four distinct seasons. Summers are hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms, while winters are generally mild with occasional freezes and only rare snow. Spring and fall bring the most comfortable temperatures for camping. Peak season runs from Memorial Day through Labor Day, when lake traffic, campground occupancy, and demand for full-hookup sites at places like Green Acres RV Resort and Botel Campground all rise sharply. Weekends and holidays fill first, and reservations well in advance are strongly recommended. Spring, particularly April and May, is a strong shoulder season with wildflowers, mild days, and active fishing, though thunderstorms and occasional severe weather are possible. Fall offers cooler nights, fewer bugs, and quieter campgrounds through October. The Pickwick Dam TVA campground operates seasonally from mid-March through mid-November, and the Main Campground at Pickwick Landing State Park is currently closed for weather-related repairs and renovation, so travelers should confirm site availability before booking.

Sites at Pickwick Dam Campground include electric and water hookups, a picnic table, fire ring, and grill, with a dump station, flush toilets, hot showers, and a campground store on site. Bruton Branch, on the north shore of Pickwick Lake, is primitive with no electric or water at individual sites, and its bathhouse uses untreated well water, so campers should bring drinking water. Green Acres RV Resort and Botel Campground cater to RVs with full hookups, concrete or paved pads, and additional amenities such as laundry and, at Botel, a swimming pool and splash pad. Expect wooded, rolling terrain, warm and humid summer nights, mosquitoes near the water, and cellular coverage that can be spotty in shoreline loops. Firewood should be purchased locally to prevent moving pests.
