Overview of campgrounds near Paris, Tennessee
Paris sits in northwest Tennessee, minutes from the eastern shore of Kentucky Lake, one of the largest artificial lakes in the eastern United States. The reservoir and its wooded shoreline anchor most RV trips to the region, and campgrounds cluster along US Highway 79 between the city of Paris and the water.
The area's largest public campground is inside Paris Landing State Park, about 18 miles east of town. The Paris Landing campground offers 45 sites with water and 30- or 50-amp electric hookups, 18 primitive campsites, and six camping cabins, all open year-round. Private options fill in around it, including Nobles Road RV Park, Paris Landing / Kentucky Lake KOA Holiday, Eagle's Nest RV Park, Little Eagle RV Park, and Swan Bay Cabins and RV Park / K Austion Properties LLC.
Just north across the state line, Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area covers roughly 170,000 acres between Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake, adding a large block of federal campgrounds and trails within a short drive.
Things to do near Paris
Kentucky Lake drives most on-water plans. Boat ramps, marinas, and swim beaches line the shoreline, and fishing and boating are popular on both Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. Paris Landing State Park adds a swimming beach, full-service marina, and 18-hole golf course on site, along with a four-lane public boat launch ramp.
Inside Land Between the Lakes, families can drive the Elk and Bison Prairie loop, visit the Golden Pond planetarium, and hike shoreline trails. The Elk and Bison Prairie is a 700-acre native grassland enclosure with a paved 3.5-mile loop where visitors stay in their vehicles to view free-roaming elk, bison, wild turkeys, and other wildlife. Turkey Bay OHV Area sets aside about 2,500 acres and nearly 100 miles of marked trails for ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, and four-wheel-drive vehicles.
In town, downtown Paris offers restaurants, an Eiffel Tower replica in Memorial Park, and grocery stops for restocking the RV.

Paris has a humid subtropical climate. Summers are hot and humid with frequent afternoon thunderstorms and heavy downpours, winters are cold and bring occasional snowfall, and rainfall is spread fairly evenly through the year. Late spring through early fall is the practical RV season for swimming, boating, and long days outside.
Summer weekends and holidays are the busiest window on Kentucky Lake, and sites at Paris Landing and nearby private parks tend to book well ahead. Fall brings cooler nights, lower humidity, and the elk rut inside Land Between the Lakes, a strong draw for wildlife viewers. Bull elk begin bugling as the mating season starts in late September, and rangers point to early morning and evening as the best times to visit the Elk and Bison Prairie.
Winter is quiet but usable. All areas at Paris Landing are open year-round, and the dump station and laundry room stay open to guests through the cold months, though seasonal services scale back and the camp store operates May through October.
How to book campgrounds near Paris
Paris Landing State Park is the anchor public campground and takes reservations directly through the Tennessee State Parks system at reserve.tnstateparks.com, with bookings accepted up to 12 months in advance and a non-refundable reservation fee per site. Check-in is at 4:00 PM and check-out at 12:00 PM, and most campsites require a minimum two-night stay.
Cancellation terms tighten as the arrival date approaches, so lock in dates early and adjust rather than cancel last minute. Cancellations made within two weeks of arrival typically forfeit the full deposit, while those made a few weeks out forfeit the first night.
For federal campgrounds inside Land Between the Lakes, most developed sites book through Recreation.gov, while primitive and backcountry camping may require a permit purchased at a visitor center or gatehouse. Private parks near Paris, including the KOA Holiday and the RV parks along the lake, book directly on their own websites.
What to expect on the ground
Sites at Paris Landing State Park suit most travel trailers and mid-size motorhomes but not the largest coaches. Campsites accommodate RVs up to 38 feet in length, and most are back-in sites in a shaded hardwood setting. In the campground there are two bathhouses (one may be closed seasonally), a dump station, a laundry room, and a seasonal camp store.
Rules are typical for Tennessee State Parks. The campground is pet-friendly, but pets must be kept on a leash at all times. Only certified heat-treated firewood is allowed into the state park, so plan to buy wood on-site or bring bundled, treated wood.
Inside Land Between the Lakes, be ready to be off-grid at times. Cell service is unreliable across much of the recreation area, and mosquitoes and ticks are common in warm months. Bring bug spray, drinking water, and a full tank of fuel before heading in.

Plan on roughly 8 to 10 miles per gallon (MPG) for a Class C motorhome, 6 to 8 MPG for a Class A, and 12 to 16 MPG for a tow vehicle pulling a travel trailer. For a 200-mile weekend (say Paris to Land Between the Lakes and back), expect $60 to $110 in fuel. Driving an RV around Paris, TN is refreshingly stress-free compared to most metro areas. US-79 and US-641 are the two main routes, both wide highways with gentle grades through rolling West Tennessee farmland. Downtown Paris has the well-known 65-foot Eiffel Tower replica and standard small-town streets that any Class C handles easily. Watch for deer at dawn and dusk along rural roads.
